İdman | Sports Why do we win so quickly?

Azerbaijani football has been at a very low level for years. The club that has made us forget about that, at least for a while, is Qarabag. They have reached the group or league stage of European competitions for 12 consecutive years and achieved results that most Azerbaijani clubs could only dream of.

There's still this strange group of people who criticize Qarabag or Gurban Gurbanov just because we can't beat European teams-teams we used to get excited just to see play in Baku, and now even when we go into those games with a weakened squad ourselves.

If someone says Azerbaijani football still needs to improve, I completely agree. It absolutely does. But let me remind you of something: last season, Qarabag finished with the same number of points as Galatasaray and finished above clubs like Ajax, Napoli, Eintracht Frankfurt and PSV on points. Comparing the fan support, infrastructure and budgets of those clubs with Qarabag would be completely unrealistic. Qarabag is the club that has achieved these things despite having far fewer resources. Sabah's recent success absolutely deserves to be celebrated. They had a great season and should get credit for it. But sometimes it feels like people are talking as if Qarabag has done nothing for Azerbaijani football for all these years just because Sabah had one very good season.

We should celebrate Sabah's achievements without trying to diminish Qarabag's.

Azərbaycan futbolu illərdir çox aşağı səviyyədədir. Bunu Azərbaycana unutduran klub Qarabağdır. 12 il ardıcıl şəkildə qrup mərhələsində çıxış edib. Azərbaycan klublarının xəyal belə edə bilməyəcəyi nəticələr qazanıb. Vaxtıyla Bakıya gəldiyinə sevindiyimiz klubları ikinci heyətlə udmağı istəyən uda bilməyəndə isə Qurbanı və ya Qarabağı pisləyən çox ciddi aşağı IQ də kütlə var. İnkişaf mütləq şəkildə lazımdır bunu yazanlar olacaqsa cavab verim, Qarabağ keçən il Qalatasaray ilə eyni xalı topladı. Ajax,Napoli,Frankfurt,PSV kimi klubları isə xal olaraq üstələdi. Bu klubların azarkeş dəstəyini, infrastrukturunı və büdcələrini Qarabağla müqayisə eləmək ciddi şəkildə ağılsızlıq olar. Qarabağ bunları bacarmış komandadır. Lakin Sabah 1 il yaxşı nəticə göstərdi deyə hər kəs sanki Qarabağ illərdir Azərbaycan futbolunu daşımayıb kimi yazılar paylaşımlar edir. Sabahın uğurların mütləq qeyd etməliyik amma Qarabağı pisləyərək yox.

Mehemmedeli Osmanli (12-1) and Asaf Chopurov (11-0) are starting their UFC journeys. Both are bantamweights.

Osmanli is making his debut today against kyrgyz fighter Ilimbek Akylbek. He has finished 10 of his 12 wins and came to the UFC through TUF, where he won fights against Belakh and Strong. Osmanli has great high volume striking and a strong submission game, as well as good cardio. He made both of his opponents on the show look like amateurs. His striking was so fast and damaging that the people he fought on the show tried to take him down as soon as possible, which only made things worse for them since Osmanli is also a very slick grappler. He submitted Belakh in the first round and beat Strong with a buggy choke, which had never been done in the UFC before. Osmanli also has a personality that is suited for entertaining, which could take him far. Good luck to him.

Chopurov is also a beast. He is a very well-rounded fighter with no obvious weak points. Good striking and grappling, and he has finished 10 of his 11 wins, with 7 of those finishes coming in the first round. Chopurov is high skilled. Compared to Osmanli, I think Asaf is less aggressive and more measured, but he has better pure wrestling abilities and GNP. He will make his UFC debut at UFC 333. I heard Asaf is not going to represent Azerbaijan anymore, but given how corrupt our sports federations are and how many talents have been wasted because of them, I don't really care. He is still ethnically Azerbaijani at the end of the day and i'm gonna support him.

It's just unfortunate that they are in the same weight class.

So currently, we have 2 bantamweights (Chopurov, Osmanli), 1 featherweight (Otari Tanzilov, who represents Georgia), 3 lightweights (Fiziev, Musayev, Sadykhov), and 2 welterweights (Hasanov, Abdullayev) in the UFC.
There are also some good prospects outside the UFC, like Elbek Alyshov, who is an undefeated ONE FC champion, and Raul Lemberanski (9-0), who is fighting today at the Oktagon event at the 60k stadium.

İdman | Sports I made a documentary about Sabah FK’s incredible rise

Hey everyone!

I’m a Belgian football fan and I recently came across the story of Sabah FK. The more I researched the club, the more fascinated I became by how quickly they’ve risen.

Founded only in 2017, and now they’re champions of Azerbaijan and playing in the Champions League against some of the biggest clubs in Europe. That’s a pretty ridiculous journey in less than a decade.

I make football documentaries about interesting clubs and stories from around the world, so I decided to make an episode about Sabah and how they managed to get this far so quickly.

Here’s the video for anyone interested:

https://youtu.be/mCegsVDNtXQ?is=i2ic2M209lApYhvW

I’m obviously looking at the club from the outside, so I’d genuinely love to hear what Azerbaijani football fans think. Did I represent Sabah and their story accurately? And how big does their Champions League qualification feel in Azerbaijan?

Any feedback is appreciated! 🇦🇿⚽

I’m from Aarhus in Denmark and visiting Baku this week. My home football team (AGF) is playing Sabah FK. Is anyone aware if any local Azerbaijan tv channels are broadcasting this match? Or are you aware of any sport bar in Baku that shows the game?
Thanks.

İdman | Sports Feels weird to see "Sabah" in the UCL

Congratulations to Sabah. I really admire the job Valdas Dambrauskas has done, winning the league title and the cup. Now the team has a golden opportunity to gain experience and to perform on the European stage, playing against the biggest teams.

And what is really heartbreaking, "Qarabag" failed to qualify for European competitions after 12 consecutive years of playing in Europe. Last season was their peak, the best thing they could have done was keep the squad and sign better players
I've been watching their games since I was a kid, and watching their matches has always given me a warm feeling
Maybe FC "Qarabag" was one of the main reasons why Azerbaijani people living abroad could come together in one city to support their club as one and feel something Azerbaijani there.
