PIQs

Could anyone read over one of my UC PIQs? It’s the 'significant challenge' prompt. Since it covers a very personal topic, I’m not comfortable sharing it with people close to me and would really appreciate an outside perspective.

Review my QB Essay

I unfortunately did not make it as a QB Finalist this admission season and I feel like I know the weaker areas of my app. I have been to 3 different schools in 3 years and I feel my LORs might have been weak since I only got close to 1 of my teachers in 11th grade. Thus, I need to maximize my essay and feel it may have been lackluster. Would anyone be willing to read it> Just for the feedback. I am going to rewrite a new one entirely. Please let me know. Thanks!

Can anyone review my personal statement first draft?

Can anyone critique my essay? I've never been a good writer, so I don't feel confident in my essay. I've only finished my first draft, and I feel like I need it fixed, but I don't know where to start, so feedback would be appreciated! Thank you :)

is it a bad idea if my common app essay is related to my major?

hi, my essay currently is about my love of neuro and what inspired it to put it concisely (talked about a particular tv show and how i'm a combination of these psych doctors in my approaches, connected that to neuro...) (answering Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more? prompt)

as i'm writing supplementals, i'm scared that it'll be too similar for "why major" prompts. my other idea for my common app was about my many pets and connecting each of them to me and how they influence me + how they've made me a better person but i was afraid the essay would then be more about my pets than myself or be too obvious about what i learned from them. another idea i had was my strained relationship with my mom and how i've grown and changed ever since shes shown signs of dementia but i thought that was kind of generic as well...

would love to hear any advice!

edit: also had another idea about cultural identity, refused to learn Mandarin and felt disconnected from my culture as I watched people communicate since I could understand but not communicate well, felt like I was missing something as I responded in English when someone talked to me in Mandarin… decided to try to learn a few words every day to improve

i REALLY would love if anyone is open to reading it for some feedback-or knows a good essay/application reviewer that won’t make me go broke!!

Can I write about my grandmother's death if it only provides context?

So I've been thinking about college essay topics for a while now. I thought about writing about me reading comics and connecting it to engineering somehow, but that felt kinda bland, and honestly I don't even know how to write it. I just feel paralysed when I try to start.

Then I realised, yeah, I do read comics daily, but that didn't really help me grow at all lol. If anything it made things worse, cause I keep procrastinating while doing it.

I also realised (and ik this is basically a forbidden topic at this point) that my grandmother's death is the only life experience that actually gives context to me and my struggles. And it's super cliche too. She had a rare blood cancer during the pandemic, bla bla bla. Ik it sounds like the most generic trauma college essay ever put together. Also my teacher strictly told me I can't write about the death of a relative. But it was a horrible experience, and I can't even explain it without oversharing. I literally didn't even talk about her being a role model for me. Didn't mention what she was like at all. I just said she died, then mentioned other stuff. The death just gives context about some of the issues I went through and how it changed me.

If this doesn't work I could write about other stuff too. My life is pretty boring honestly so idk what to even show about me to admission officers.

Would anyone be able to read my common app essay?

I know this is late bc I'm submitting apps starting Monday and Tuesday, but can someone please read my Common App essay? I'm applying for marine biology, which I think is helpful for understanding the topic of my essay. I think I could improve in language or development throughout the essay. I'm worried that some of it is too generic or sounds like AI, but I wrote it without any AI. Those are my main concerns, but any suggestions are welcome!

I would truly appreciate it if anyone could read my essay and provide suggestions! I will DM it to you.

Our house leaned against my father’s bike shop like it, too, depended on wheels to stay upright. Inside, rows of polished frames gleamed under white lights - carbon fiber bodies, thin as promises, built for speed. They looked like they already knew where they were going. I didn’t.

At twelve, I still couldn’t ride a bike.

In a place where cycling wasn’t just a sport but an identity, where my father’s name carried the quiet weight of a professional rider, this felt less like a delay and more like a flaw. Kids younger than me raced down the streets outside, their balance effortless, their laughter trailing behind them like wind. I stayed close to the doorway, as if crossing it required more than just a step.

So I found another way in. Behind the shop, past the showroom that felt too polished for my uncertainty, there was a repair corner that smelled of oil and metal. That’s where I found him. The uncle who fixed broken chains and bent wheels, who understood bikes not as trophies, but as things that could be taken apart and made whole again. I begged him to teach me.

He said yes, but only in fragments of time, during the short pauses between customers, when the shop exhaled for a moment. We practiced in the narrow alley behind the shop, a space that felt like it existed outside of expectation. And the bike he gave me wasn’t one of the sleek carbon bikes lined up inside. It was old. Its paint had faded into something unrecognizable, and its chain sang a rough, uneven rhythm with every turn. It wasn’t built for speed. It was built to endure. Maybe that’s why it was perfect.

He would steady the seat with one hand, his fingers still marked with grease, and let go before I was ready. I fell again and again. Each fall felt like proof of something I already feared, that I was too late, too behind, too far from who I was supposed to be.

But he never rushed me. “Again,” he would say, like a quiet reset button.

In a week, I learned. Not in the way I had imagined. There was no triumphant moment under bright lights, no audience, no father watching with pride from the doorway. Just a slow realization that I was moving forward without falling. That balance wasn’t something I was given, it was something I negotiated, constantly, between fear and motion.

I thought that was the beginning. In some ways, it was also the end.

Because just as I found my balance, I was asked to let it go. My mother, who had carried more weight than anyone ever acknowledged, saw something different when she looked at the path ahead of me. Where my father saw speed, she saw sacrifice. Early mornings, financial uncertainty, a life built on risks that didn’t always pay off. She didn’t say it harshly. She didn’t need to. Her words were quiet, but they landed with the weight of everything she had already endured: no athletics.

For a long time, I didn’t argue. Not because I didn’t care but because I did. I knew what it meant for her to say that. I knew what it had cost her to keep our lives steady while everything else moved unpredictably. Choosing her words felt like choosing stability over motion.

So I stepped off the bike.

But leaving the track didn’t mean leaving cycling.

If anything, it brought me closer in a way I hadn’t expected. I found my place not on the saddle, but behind the scenes. Working with the Mongolian Cycling Federation, volunteering at some of the country’s largest sporting events. At first, I told myself it was temporary, a way to stay connected to something I wasn’t allowed to fully pursue. But the more I stayed, the more I began to see a different side of the sport.

Races weren’t just about the cyclists who crossed the finish line. They were about the hundreds of invisible decisions that made that moment possible. The routes planned, the logistics coordinated, the quiet work that turned chaos into motion. I wasn’t riding the race, but I was helping build it.

And in that, I found something unexpected.

Purpose.

I began to understand that passion doesn’t always move in a straight line. Sometimes it bends, reroutes, or takes you somewhere you never intended to go. The version of me that learned to ride a rusted bike in a back alley thought that loving cycling meant becoming a cyclist. But standing at the edge of a race I helped organize, watching hundreds of riders move as one, I realized something else:

I hadn’t left cycling. I had just found a different way to move with it.

My father’s bikes were built for speed. My mother’s choices were built for stability. Somewhere between them, I learned to build something of my own - not a straight path, but a bridge.

I may not be the cyclist my father once imagined.

But every race I help create, every rider I support, every moment I spend turning stillness into motion - I am still part of the ride.

I need someone to rate my PS

nobody around me is familiar with US-style personal essays, so I haven't been able to get a real human reader yet. I've had AI tools and a few websites review it, and the feedback was positive, but I'd really like to hear how it feels to a person.

What I'm looking for:
- Does my voice come through, or does it sound generic?
- Is there any part that feels confusing, slow, or unnecessary?
- Does the ending land?
- Anything that sounds unnatural to a native speaker?
