❔ Husband had surgery in July, approved. Chose Debit Card, and it was stolen somehow. Help?

• Upvotes

This whole ordeal has been a god damn mess so any experience and help is appreciated.

I’ll add a tldr but basically husband needed surgery (not workers comp) in July. Dr approved it, all disability paperwork was signed, submitted and approved.

Now never mind that every time you call EDD offices, you can’t get through unless you pay a third party service $10-20 to make thousands of phone calls on your behalf. And if you have to call back, the same process plays out. And then you ask your local state representatives to help, which just leads to more BS.

My husband chose the debit card option, and after months of getting nothing was told his card was mailed almost a month prior. And that it was all spent somehow. How is this even possible without being an inside job from either the post office OR the EDD/Money Market people???

So another month of trying to call these people, they send another card, which has $0. But now my husband can finally see all the fraudulent transactions that took place; $1000 at Walmart in Compton, $600 at Walmart in Torrance, etc etc etc.

Called Money Market and they tell us that they need us to submit a dispute form, it could take almost 90 days for a decision to be made.

We are lucky that this isn’t negatively affecting us, but I know for many people, this money is all they have. How do people do this?? Seriously, how do we just let this bullshit continue to happen? Before this I searched everywhere to find similar experiences and I found an OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF SIMILAR EXPERIENCES, YEARS WORTH.

HOW??!! How is this a thing?

More specifically, how does this play out for those who have experienced it?

TLDR: husband got surgery, got EDD approved, chose debit card, card never arrived and all funds were stolen. Now disputing and told it could take months to decide.

❔ How to cancel Continued Claim for Benefits

Hello! I misread and misunderstood what was being asked. I didn't realize that I filed for continued Claim of Benefits. How do I go about cancelling that claim? I tried calling the number to speak to a representative but it was automated.

❔ Part Time SDI

Hi, applied yesterday 10/27. My Dr. advised me that he would put me out of work for 90 days. I wanted to know if I work part time, half days, will EDD not pay me the difference since my Dr asked me to be out of work? Or, will I be able to get the difference

Solved ✔ Calling disability line: press 240

Posting this for people in the future who also have issues reaching someone on the phone for SDI: if you're calling to ask about your disability claim (the phone number ending in 3287), after you enter the verification code and the automated voice starts asking you to select an option (check status claim, etc etc), enter 240. It'll either say the queue is full, in which case you hang up and try again, or it'll ask you for your SSN, which means your call went through. I just did this at 3:30pm today (Tues), called around 5 times in the span of 15 min, and got through the queue to get a call back 11 min later. The lady was very nice and resolved my issue in 15 min.

❔ EDD Phone Interview- Notice of Potential False Statement, Wages and Earnings

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have a phone interview scheduled for tomorrow, and these are the questions I’m told to be prepared to answer during the interview. Has anyone received the letter before with these specific questions?

I answered the eligibility questionnaire to the best of my ability and referred to my final paycheck to answer them, so it’s frustrating to think there’s a potential mistake that was made somewhere.

Looking forward to getting the phone interview done and over with, but would appreciate any advice or encouraging words regarding this.

Discussion 👥 Filing for disability

Hi. I found out I had E. coli, the kind you get from food. I work in the restaurant industry and constantly handle food so therefore, I was prohibited to work. The public health department contacted my job and I was unable to go in until I was clear. I was told I could potentially file for disability so I did. I was out of work for almost 2 months. However; before I was aware I could file for SDI, I used up all of my sick hours from my job so I could still get paid. However, that didn’t cover the entire time I was gone and lost out on a lot of money from not working. I got the doctor to complete the medical certification so now I’m just waiting on a response which will take another week. I was wondering if you guys think I’ll have a good chance of getting approved. I’m not familiar with the process so I’m curious what people think. It’s just frustrating because I do need the money!

Discussion 👥 Do I get paid while being abroad for disability?

EDIT: paid $12.99 through EDDcaller 10/10 recommend. The EDD person said yes I can travel during this period. And oversea doctor can reevaluate me, it's just that the process will take longer to verify license.

Title kinda says it all but I filed EDD and FMLA today for mental health reasons (aka disability) at work. I would like to go abroad and relax myself but idk if I will get paid or get in trouble if I am outside of USA. I plan to leave for 2-3 weeks and get reevaluated by the MD to either extend or put me back to work by week 4.

TIA!

Discussion 👥 SDI extension - Check your paperwork

So I posted last week about how I hadn’t gotten paid for SDI and hadn’t heard anything from edd. Well I contacted my assembly member last week and edd finally called today. The whole reason why my payments were stalled was because my doctor forgot to put my last doctors appointment on my paperwork. We had a 5 minute call, I told him when my last appointment was and he issued my payment

❔ SDI to PFL

I want to see if anyone can help me with this. I had been on SDI due to pregnancy/delivery. My return to work date was 9/22/26, I got paid on 9/21 for up to 9/15. No pay for 9/16-9/21. I started my PFL on 9/22 and have been receiving the payments. Do I not get paid for those last few days of SDI?

Discussion 👥 Extending an SDI claim?

Hi all, I was in a car crash and have been on SDI. My original return to work date is 11/02. My doctor wanted to extend it by 8 weeks from today for more healing time. He said I go online and request and extension. Is this true? I was under the impression that the doctor is the one who extends it.

❔ Certification Needed

Post image

EDD texted me and sent me receipts for the paperwork that’s already been submitted. My last payment was 10-11 for just one day. I know this is an on going issue with people asking but it’s just stuck in this process. Any advice on what I should do? The last thing the texted me was that they received my practitioners supplementary certification and that it would take 14 days to process.

❔ Post Childbirth Disability

Hi,

I applied and was approved for disability starting on 9/17 for pregnancy/pre childbirth. My doctor submitted their forms and I received payments through 10/20. I delivered my baby on 10/7 and submitted the delivery update form on 10/8. My disability claim is now saying payments stopped 10/20 and my expected return to work date as 10/20. I asked my doctor if they need to update that I delivered on their end and they said they only need to update if disability is extended. Is there a delay in EDD updating my disability to childbirth recovery or do I need to submit something else? They sent me paid family leave form but I don't think I fill that out till after my childbirth recovery disability ends? Also I gave birth via c section so I'm under the impression disability is for 8 weeks post birth? Tried calling EDD but can't even get on the wait-list.

As you probably know once again our deposits have been delayed. If anyone has received theirs yet please feel free to comment to give me some hope. I got a job and start tomorrow but I need to drive to the site and get my uniform. And I was really counting on this deposit coming in so I can gas up for the week.

❔ SDI after WC

WC benefits maxed out at 104 weeks about 10 days ago. Last month I successfully reopened the SDI application originally submitted the same time I went on WC. SDI confirmed Notice of Computation and stated that WC benefits termination letter was all that was needed to finalize. I dropped it off in person today and was then told proof of Permanent Partial Disability status from WC was now needed. Is this standard? Im not MMI yet. Is there any way around this?

❔ Filing a PFL from overseas

Has anyone successfully been able to file a PFL claim from another country? How do you obtain the hardcopy DE 2501 form for the foreign doctor to complete certification. EDD website says international doctors cant submit certification online , much be through mail. USPS first class can fake weeks to receive where Im at, and DHL or FedEx is outrageously expensive.

Tips 💡 My surgeon fucked up my husband's PFL claim and now we don't know what to do.

I'm in CA. I had ankle surgery over 2 weeks ago and we were told that I would need caregiving for 6 weeks afterward, so that's what my husband applied for. We found out after filing that my surgeon (or his team) only certified 2 weeks after surgery. When we called to find out why, one of his staff said the doctor typically only certifies the first 2 weeks as a general policy. Wtf, HE'S the one who told me I needed 6 weeks! Now the office is saying they can't access the claim and extend the time and stupidly told my husband to file another one. The EDD website says specifically not to file duplicate claims, but we were assured that it would be fine since the dates are different. Unsurprisingly, EDD deleted my husband's second claim and according to them, he went back to work last Thursday. I've done all I can with the doctor's office and we can't get the form we need online. I guess we're supposed to get the form sent to us, but we don't have it yet. Wtf are we supposed to do???? Does my husband need to go to the EDD office in person to straighten this out? Ugh, this is an absolute nightmare!!!! If it wasn't for my SDI claim and our savings, we'd have no money right now, but it won't last very long. It shouldn't be this hard!!!!

❔ De2500a mail on processing time?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I originally dropped off my 2500a. Form at the post office on October 12th, i’ve received absolutely no updates since. I even waited to speak to a worker at the disability office twice now and one my second visit she told me I’d have to wait until they process my mail. She would only be able to certify me in person if I had late rent or other financial emergencies I’m not sure what to do anymore.
