It hasn’t received much attention, but Going to Sky’s victory in the Kikuka Sho marks the first time in Japanese horse racing history that three consecutive generations of the same lineage have won the same G1 race.
A similar example is the three-generation Tenno Sho winning streak by Mejiro Asama/Mejiro Titan/Mejiro McQueen; this represents three consecutive victories across both the "spring and autumn" of the Tenno sho. (memo for myself: Tenno sho Autumn was 3200m by 1983)
Regarding Jockey, Yokoyama family's achievement of winning the same G1 race (Tenno sho Autumn) across three consecutive generations,

Tbh, the whole thing leading up to this race is just weird to me. For some reason, no popular news websites made a big announcement about his next race, we only knew it through what his trainer said a few months ago (that he would either participate in either Cox Plate or Tenno Sho Autumn), stud book, a twitter account and the next race schedule of older horses overall on netkeiba (and probably some unpopular websites out there). I know that not every horse gets a big media announcement for every G1 they target (like Giovanni leading into the Tenno Sho Autumn), but I thought that only applied to non-G1 winners. So apparently, even G1 winners can get the same treatment? His trainer also didn't post about the upcoming race on Twitter like he had been doing ever since the Arima Kinen. But just two weeks before the race, the popular media have finally posted info about him again, and he seems to be still in good condition and ready to race. I’m glad that nothing serious happened after all, still don’t know why they are suddenly so secretive about him though.
Everyone talks about Croix, Regaleira, Yanko retiring this year, but I think there is also a chance Decile will retire at the end of this year too. If that truly happens, then I can only get to see him run in 3 more races (assuming that he will participate in all 3 ATC races). I hope Decile, Tosaki and Yasuda can give it them all and show me a memorable performance. At the very least, I want him to place in the top 3 in all 3 races. Well, if he doesn’t retire this year yet, then I will continue to cheer for him wholeheartedly next year.

In terms of 2-year-old leading sire, the gap between Contrail and Saturnalia is not that big, so there is a chance that Contrail will be Efforia next main rival for that title.

No horses with a Deep Impact-line sire and a Storm Cat-line dam that have won a grade stakes race at a distance of 2,500m or longer. Is that right?

Kitasan Black introducing Equinox to Japan's Leading Sire...
if anything I learn the most from this subreddit it's about Kizunalings
mainly from u/WANNFH and u/doomslayer30000
Only one way to truly understand his appeal as stud stallions
that's being his offspring results..
as of this month (October 2026) He produce a total of 42 Graded race winners ....
for comparison with rival sires around his generation Epiphaneia (22), Orfevre (27),lord Kanaloa (51).
His only sin probably not produce clear successor or at least a colt winning more than 1 G1 , but lottery is perfect every crop every generation have a graded race winner among them. and those mid bosses ALW Races
Lord Kanaloa also have this similar issue but some of his colts have better record 2 G1s better than 1 G1, and Almond Eye alone already cement his legacy as a Sire.
in the end it's all about Quality Vs Quantity debate
since this hall of fame only black type horse will be listed (Graded race winner), and that's what make a stud truly desirable

Hey all, I am visiting Japan later this year and plan to attend a g3 at Tokyo Racecourse and a g1 at Kyoto. I will be entering the ticket lotteries for reserved seats for both.
I am bringing a pretty nice camera along for some good photos, including a 400mm lens for some zoom, and want to know what seats I should probably be trying to reserve if I get chosen in the lottery. I can’t find much for maps of the seating online, but I’m probably just not looking in the right places.
I know I will be able to walk around to find a good standing spot for pictures, especially during the g3, but figure trying to find a seat that has a decent vantage point probably wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Just curious if anybody has any recommendations of sections and such.
Thanks!

The question has been bugging me for a bit, but I genuinely wonder how Lovcen could feasibly get in the JRA Hall of Fame after falling at the TC? If he had won it, then he would likely have an excellent shot at swaying the voters after his retirement, especially if he kept his form, as a grandson of Deep Impact getting the Classic TC and him rising from being an underdog to claiming the TC with a diverse range of tactics would be a good case for a legend among legends.
However, with his crushing defeat, my guess is that there are now only two ways he could even get a chance to be nominated instead of being stuck in deadlock hell until the 20 year time period for being voted in after his racing retirement runs out:
With that in mind, I wonder if Lovcen might still be able to clinch a spot when his retirement comes or if his chance is already doomed?

My keiba-fan friends and I have identified a trio of horses that make up what we call the Cursed Triple Crown. Horses who each won a triple crown G1, then sunk into the annuls of history with unfulfilled potentials after suffering injuries that forced them to retire.
There is Haku Taisei, the third favorite for the 1990 Satsuki Sho who beat Ines Fujin for the win. He subsequently finished 5th in the Japanese Derby wherein he suffered an injury at the end of the race he was unable to recover from (he survived, but dropped out of the Yasuda Kinen when it recurred).
There is Fusaichi Concorde, the secret fifth of the 1996 four heavenly kings. He didn't run the Satsuki Sho at all, then won the Japanese Derby as seventh favorite, upsetting Dance in the Dark in a race that shook the GOAT Yutaka Take. He became a "miracle derby" horse, delivering a 'sonic finishing kick' before following it up with a career-ending injury in the Kikuka Sho. A Kikuka Sho that also ended the career of winner Dance in the Dark.
Dance in the Dark himself is a horse that I could put into the Kikuka Sho slot. But as is customary for the longest, most grueling race in the Classic Triple Crown, there are multiple horses that can take this spot. I will talk about the horse who is probably the most forgotten of them all: Song of Wind.
Song of Wind is a son of El Condor Pasa, sharing this distinction with horses such as Vermilion and Tokai Trick. He was 2 years old just as the keiba world was focused on the best horse of all time, Deep Impact, who steamrolled the 2005 classics generation and subsequently, took the headlines from the other horses running at the time.
Regardless, Song of Wind was not making headlines at the time. As preliminary races were beginning for the 2006 running of the Satsuki Sho, Sondo was fighting a brutal cycle of narrow defeats in an effort to get a maiden win. For four races in a row, he was favorite. For four races in a row, he finished 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, and 2nd.
When he finally grinded out a win on his fifth attempt--a turf race following four dirt attempts-- the Satsuki Sho was only a few weeks away. He would race on that same day, but across the country in Kyoto, finishing 2nd in an allowance race.
You see, Song of Wind was always acknowledged as a *good* runner, but had a hard time putting it all together for ultimate glory. In fact, for 10 out of his 11 races, Sondo finished on the podium, but only 3 ended in ultimate glory. His first win was that fifth go-around in maiden race hell. The second was at the 2006 running of the Natsukodachi Sho, an allowance race preceding the G2 Keio Hai Spring Cup. He was considered an opening act for a G2 race, far from one of the greatest in Japan.
For most of his races, he was ridden by Koshiro Take, who took the reigns from his far-more-famous brother Yutaka Take. His feels like fate, to me; a horse that had a hard time being remembered, ridden by a jockey who likely felt overshadowed by his brother. It was a partnership forged by fate.
After an impressive showing at the G3 Radio Nikkei Sho, rising quietly up the ladder with the subtlety of a soft summer breeze, Song of Wind got his largest break yet. He had been registered to return to dirt racing, yet opted to try for turf glory one last time, opting to run in the G3 Kobe Shimbun Hai. There, he met who would become the closest thing to a rival.
Dream Passport, a horse whose pedigree included the likes of Deep Impact and Tony Bin, was overshadowed in his own right. He too was known for a streak of podium finishes, plagued by Meisho Samson who took the Fuji TV Sho Spring Stakes and the the first two legs of the Classic Triple Crown out from under him. He had been so close yet so far on larger stages than Song of Wind, and faced Sondo at the Kobe Shimbun Hai, two similar horses trying to make names for themselves.
It was a hard fought battle, wherein Dream Passport prevailed, defeating Meisho Samson and netting his first G2 win. Song of Wind, the sixth favorite and a horse without a graded win of his own, followed in their wake, crossing the line in third place, his typical podium result. This was good enough to earn him a spot in the Kikuka Sho, however. His classics season was not over, and he was going to make a showing in the final race of the Triple Crown.
Meisho Samson, meanwhile, was going for history. He had two of the races already, and looked poised to immediately follow in the footsteps (hoof steps?) of Deep Impact. Despite losing in the Kobe Shimbun Hai, he had G1 results that Dream Passport did not, and was considered the favorite for the race. Dream Passport, the 2nd favorite, probably felt confident after a strong preliminary showing, and was also entering the race in high spirits.
Then there was Song of Wind, who was probably just happy to be there. When gates were drawn, he was put in the parking lot, the outermost 18th gate of the Kikuka Sho. In the larger context of Japanese horse racing, Deep Impact Fever had not slowed down at all--the four year old superstar was steam rolling through all the G1s he could devour, following a loss to Heart's Cry with victories in the Tenno Sho Spring, the Takarazuka Kinen. He had just been disqualified from L'arc, and everyone was buzzing about that, before he was set to return to Japan for the Japan Cup.
So this was a relatively low profile Kikuka Sho, even with Meisho Samson chasing the Triple Crown. And thus it was right for a relatively low profile horse, and his relatively low profile jockey, to explode onto the scene.
At the start of the race, Admire Main pulled what you all saw this year from King's Glory, pulling to a ten-pace lead. Song of Wind--who was known at this time for late surges--sat third from the rear, where little of the focus resided. Admire Main's lead was halved by the time he entered the stretch, and the final burst of the race began, with Song of Wind needing to gain tremendous ground. The commentator narrated Meisho Samson's position, who broke into second at the start of the stretch. Dream Passport fought for recognition, becoming the first of the three to stream past Admire Main.
In fact, Meisho Samson never passed Admire Main at all. As the race hit its crescendo, Dream Passport was less focused on Admire Main, and more focused on the comet that was surging to his left, which the commentator shifted his attention to with the exclamation: "Song of Wind! Song of Wind!"
The two passed Admire Main together, side by side, mounting a dramatic finish which saw Song of Wind pull out by a neck and win the Kikuka Sho. Admire Main was third, and Meisho Samson finished 4th.
The relatively unknown Song of Wind, who had never seen anything close to this kind of success, had won the Kikuka Sho, crushing the dreams of a double crown winner, and a horse looking to prove himself worthy of G1 glory. Song of Wind had actually set a record for the race, beating Seiun Sky's 1998 performance with a 3:03.02 finish.
After this miraculous win, Song of Wind would finish his season overseas with the Hong Kong Vase. During this race, Sondo would face Admire Main once more, recording his only finish off the podium. 4th. He would never finish outside of 4th for the entirely of his career.
But if you have gotten this far into the writeup, you definitely read the beginning of this post. About the concept of the Cursed Triple Crown. Haku Taisei won the Satsuki Sho soon before career-ending injury. Fusaichi Concorde won the Japanese Derby. And Song of Wind won the Kikuka Sho, before an injury in the Hong Kong Vase finished his career early.
>"I rode the race with the intention of winning. There were few horses, so it was a smooth race. I thought I had won at the fourth corner, but at the end, after changing leads, it felt like he (Song of Wind) was braking a little on his own. It didn't feel like he was running at his maximum. However, he was in good condition for the race, and I still think he's a horse that can run."
Song of Wind and Admire Main had tussled during the race, and this resulted in career-ending tendonitis for Song of Wind. Thankfully, however, he was safe after the ordeal. He is still alive and well; the people of Netkeiba have discovered that he resides at a private home in Fukushima Prefecture, partaking in casual retiree races as of 2024.
As for Dream Passport and Meisho Samson, they continued their careers for another 2 years. Dream Passport deserves a writeup in his own right; his own curse lasted until the end of his racing days, and he never won a G1--or any other race--again. Most notably, he would follow up the Kikuka Sho with an appearance as a 3-year-old in the 2006 Japan Cup, and finish second behind the shadow that has been looming this whole write-up: Deep Impact.
Song of Wind is always forgotten. While watching the Kikuka Sho last night, they played a video recounting instances of denied double crowns. As we watched images of Rice Shower storming to a Kikuka Sho win, and the video concluded, someone in the Pakatube chat recounted: "This is Song of Wind erasure." Indeed, he did not appear in the video. He rarely appears in any JRA material. He does not have a Thoroughbred Collection plush, much to my dismay.
In fact--though I am sure some of you have already pointed it out in the comments--I am sure many of you hadn't even noticed that the horse at the top of this post is Songline, not Song of Wind. When you Google the horse, actual images are often obscured by sculptures of generic horses, and pictures of Songline that the algorithm got confused by. On Netkeiba, there are only 2 photos of his Kikuka Sho win.
I have always been inspired by forgotten talent that have been overlooked in keiba history. This is why I went down the rabbit hole a couple months ago of Mejiro Mt. Cenis, Mr. CB's biggest classics rival whom doesn't even have an image on Netkeiba. And this is why, currently, I chose Song of Wind as my Classics-running character on my uma RP (which you should totally check out ;D).
The last message on Song of Wind's Netkeiba page is written on his birthday, in 2025. It mentions Dream Passport and Meisho Samson, who both died in 2024, and wonders if they are watching over him, as he lives out his days in his sleepy private life in the Fukushima Prefecture. I think that's a nice way to end this recollection.

To prevent a triple crown already amazing archivement. But he did both at the same year. It's gonna be funny if there's another horse won Tenno Sho Autumn and Japan Cup this year but they suddenly hear final boss music in Arima Kinen.

Lovcen's loss in Kikuka Sho by such a devastating margin basically gave Sugiyama the perfect excuse to do what he wanted from the start, which is to turn Lovcen into a pure medium horse. (He never actually wanted to run Kikuka, he knew Lovcen's body wasnt for 3000m but had to because of Triple Crown pressure)
While he's discussing with Forest Racing over the next course of action, it means that the end of year race for Lovcen is in suspect.
Here are the four options I think can happen.
Japan Cup (Unlikely, because Kikuka to Japan Cup is a tough schedule, and Lovcen is not a Tokyo specialist.)
Arima Kinen (Most likely, it being the standard Japanese end of year race, Lovcen being a Nakayama horse, and the distance maybe being just right for him.)
But here's the two other possible options.
Hong Kong Cup (2000m) and Hong Kong Vase (2400m)
The reason these two are possible is because unlike Nakayama or Tokyo, Shatin racecourse is flat, which is good because Lovcen struggles with hills, and its right handed too, plus the distance is ideal for him.

Going to sky, ridden by Yutaka Take has secured a G1 race on the kikukha sho and defeated Lovcen from gaining the triple crown. An amazing story! Congratulations to the man.
Yutaka take has even mentioned way earlier that "I will stop it. Leave the long Kyoto race to me." And he did as he told. All I gotta say, I'm a bit sad that Lovcen did not get to be triple crown...but he tried his best. But his best isn't enough yet.
I have learned alot from Umamusume and Horse racing. And i enjoy the JRA more than the American races. I even made a great quote too.
"Even if you are best in your generation, remember, the next generations will have more determination. And they will eventually leave ahead of you, whether you like it or not, the next generations will always catch up eventually. But that doesn't mean that you should give up hopes. Make up your history before them! Inspire them!"
(Inspired by TM Opera O, Oguri Cap, Mejiro McQueen etc.)
Thank you.
