discussion / opinion The most London IKEA
Visited the new IKEA today and it is the most London version I could ever imagine.
Looks like it opened about two months too soon. Feels completely unfinished. Shelves were in shambles and lots of missing stock. Not an employee to be seen on the floor anywhere.
Normally there’s a flow to an IKEA store, the arrows are a guide but you can generally tell where the main aisle is and where to go next. However in this store I found myself often looking over at other areas and wondering “have I been in there yet?”. Trusting the process, I followed the arrows but I’m pretty sure I missed an entire section.
The only two store employees I saw were at the checkouts. They were kept exceedingly busy by redirecting people back into line who attempted to use the abundance of inexplicably closed checkouts.
Hoping for a meatball-shaped reward to end my journey, I was sadly disappointed to find the only meat available was tubular. I placed my order at a very poorly placed kiosk which is located at a natural choke point. After waiting a length of time, no doubt determined by a roll of polyhedral dice, the two employees sprang into action. To my surprise there were nearly a half dozen orders ahead of mine. Considering the only menu option contained an equal number of components to the employees on hand, you’d think they’d be well ahead of the game, and yet…
After receiving a bun that went straight from a wonder bread bag, to a storage tin for precisely a nanosecond (processes are processes, I get it. Can’t possibly go from bag directly to box. That would be blasphemy), I received my massively overcooked hot dog. Which begs the question, what the heck were we all waiting to be served for? Dogs ready. Buns in bag. Perhaps we had to wait until hot-dog-o’clock. Then for perhaps the most disappointing part of the entire experience. No KETCHUP! Mustard for days though. Sadly, no Lingonberry juice either. Just a faintly yellow liquid in its place. I begrudgingly at that dry glizzy and left.
So if you’re thinking of going to IKEA Whiteoaks around Christmas, here’s my advice. You can easily get to Burlington in less time than it’ll take you to battle through the myriad of half-functioning lanes on Wellington then find a parking spot in the ever-disappearing “parking lot” at the mall. And you’ll be rewarded with what you actually want to buy, and those sweet, sweet, balls in brown goo.
How very London, indeed.

Ask a Local! London Wedding Venues??
Hi everyone! I am tentatively planning a wedding for November 2027 in London for around ~50 people, and have been highly considering the Civic Gardens as our venue for the ceremony and reception. I know I need to contact them directly, but before I do I would like to hear of others experiences with the venue! How much were your additional expenses on top of venue cost? I know we need to bring in our own catering, decor and all that but would you say a 10k budget for everything would be reasonable? Was set up and take down for your events manageable? I don’t plan on bringing in too much decor (Ideally I want a ‘starry night’ theme probably just setting up fairy lights and maybe bringing in navy linens that sort of thing, think hsm breaking free vibes) but still want to know what it was like for everyone (if you have pictures or videos please share!!), I’m just on the fence if its better to plan a civic gardens or go with a venue that has a package deal? If anyone has other recommendations for venues around London that would be so wonderful!! Tia 💗💗💗

Municipal Elections 2026 Is it a race between Morgan and Stevenson?
(Please don’t rip me to shreds, it’s my first time being able to vote in a mayoral election)
I would much prefer to vote for a more left leaning candidate than Josh Morgan but DO NOT want to risk Susan Stevenson being elected.
I don’t have a lot of context on history and popularity of these candidates, but a left split vote can cost and has costed big time other elections.
It also seems so strangely difficult to clearly find candidates views and specific strategies?
Would appreciate some guidance on how this kind of this may go!

discussion / opinion The London Spine Line
The London Spine Line takes many previous proposals and forms the best and most straightforward corridor for a North/South rapid transit line in London, ON.
Connecting two major Malls at its ends, a huge university, Downtown, and everything in between, this really should not be a fantasy. But it is.
Looking at London's grid, and comparing it to even smaller Ontario cities, it's apparent that the network is badly underdeveloped.
London is the largest city in Ontario without an expressway or freeway running through it. London is also the largest city in Canada without any rapid transit.
This has been debilitating for Londoners and their local road network, which are facing more constraint than ever, as London's population has reached 500,000, while it's urban core grid is the same as the 1950's. It is incredibly frustrating that just a decade ago, London had a chance with rapid transit, but city council rejected the opportunity.
At the same time, Waterloo Region approved the iON light rail and subsequently started its construction. As of 2026 it now has a successful and relatively cheap 19km LRT that has uplifted their central North/South spine and brought about a BILLION DOLLARS in total investment into the region. And this is where our proposal for London, the spine line, gets its inspiration from.
If a smaller metropolitan centre has it, why cant London?
Because we gave power to the wrong people and got exactly what we asked for. Elections are tomorrow, vote FOR transit.

discussion / opinion JH supermarket, what are you thoughts on it?
To those that have visited the new Asian supermarket that opened on Oct 23, what are your thoughts?
To me the prices are expensive compared to the other Asian stores, so I don't think I would be going to it and the location is really inconvenient, it was so annoying trying to enter and exit, it took like 15 minutes just trying to get out because of the traffic.
