AMA I broker sponsorship deals in NASCAR for a living. Ask me anything about how the money/business side actually works.

I’ve spent the last few years putting together sponsorship deals and running a marketing agency in NASCAR across Cup, O’Reilly, Truck and ARCA. I work brand side, which basically means my job is convincing companies to spend money in this sport and then making sure they’re happy enough to come back the next year.

I see questions on here all the time that I can actually answer. Why did that sponsor leave. Why can’t a driver everyone likes find funding. Why does that car have fifteen logos on it. Why did a brand do one race and never come back.

Not selling anything and not linking anything. This stuff just doesn’t get explained much and I figured some of you would find it interesting. Ask away.

AMA Hey r/NASCAR! Carson Hocevar, driver of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, is here before he heads back to Talladega. Ask him anything!

Hey r/NASCAR! We’re Spectrum, and we’re excited to cohost an AMA with u/carsonhocevar, driver of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports.

It’s been a big year for Carson. He picked up his first career Cup Series win at Talladega in April, beating Chris Buescher to the line by just 0.114 seconds, and went on to earn his first spot in the Chase. Now he’s heading back to where it all started on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Carson will be live in this thread on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET to answer your questions. Ask about superspeedway racing, that photo finish, the windowsill victory lap, race weekend life or anything else.

Can’t make it Tuesday? Drop your questions below ahead of time and upvote the ones you want him to see. Carson will answer as many as he can when he goes live.

Hey everyone,

I work directly in NASCAR on the sponsorship/partnership and marketing side, helping connect major brands with drivers, teams, and even tracks. I’ve been part of bringing some pretty large deals into the sport across multiple areas.

Ask me anything about NASCAR sponsorships, how deals come together, the business side of racing, or what it’s like working behind the scenes.

AMA AMA: I work for Stewart-Haas Racing.

I’ve been asked by many to do this so, let’s do it!

I started as a KBM/ThorSport body hanger for a private Toyota company (DC Fabrication) from 2011 - 2014.

At the end of 2014 both KBM and ThorSport decided to start their own in-house programs so I was forced to find new employment. Through networking, SHR gave me a call and I was employed as a Front End Body Hanger.

In 2018 I moved to the Travel Fabricator position in which I organized and managed the at track fabrication and repair duties.

In 2020, due to Covid and the lack of practice, my job was for the most part removed and I was given the opportunity as the Associate Shop Forman for the 14/41.

It’s been an amazing time at SHR and I’m extremely excited for our future and the future of our sport.

So, ask me anything!
