Discussion Rotating the three guards coming off the bench?

The three guard lineup may or may not work, if it is looking like it won’t work, SA could try something that I at least haven’t seen done before in the NBA.

What if SA rotates the three guards every game, switching off who comes off the bench? That way there’s no issue with egos, they each get a chance to start 2 out of every three games, and probably learn to be more adaptable and play with different units. I know this sort of thing has been done with qbs in college where they switch off drives. There could be advantages like getting out of a slump more easily in a game coming off the bench because you are typically playing against weaker competition. Could be an interesting thing to test.

Edit: ego probably isn’t an issue to begin with, I mentioned that in case that it is, but I don’t think it’s an issue with this group. I’m curious what people think about the 3 guards rotating starting, as I have never seen it done before and I’m curious what people’s thoughts are in terms of advantages and disadvantages to this idea.

Quote Victor Wembanyama on how he feels about his offensive rhythm so far this season? "Not very good. Because frankly, we would have won more games."

Discussion Just a thought

What if the 3 guard lineup is just an experiment we’ve been running until Tobias comes back? I don’t know the exact timeline but I would imagine harris comes back some time before the end of November.

I got a newfound of respect for Fox after he only got to rest less than a week before he saw that the team needed him and he came back way too early to help lead them to the Finals

Discussion Wemby Might Need to Abandon the ‘Guard’ Playstyle

Looking for an open discussion here.

Wemby has terrorised the league for 3 seasons with his “center that plays like a guard” skillset. If you guys remember last season, the first team to really stop Wemby after the undefeated run was the Suns. They implemented strong physical bigs to halt him. A few teams did this throughout the regular season as well. Then there was the extreme physical defence from the Wolves in the playoffs and the very successful strong big defence from the Knicks in the Finals. The Knicks may have highlighted to many other coaches what was needed to stop Wemby.

So far all three teams (OKC, Rockets, and Mavs) have utilised this, essentially stripping Wemby from his guard skillset.

In my opinion he needs to ADAPT. At least for now. His guard skillset are valuable but it’s not flowing at the moment. The second half of today’s Mavs games was a good insight into this. He was getting into the paint and catching lobs. All he needs to add now is a dominant isolation post game. As of now he needs to head towards the Hakeem/Dirk/Kareem route to fully transition back into a self creating offensive threat.

The use of screens from a big would also help with three pointers and middys cough cough Mitch…

A side note, he seems mentally elsewhere. I’m not sure if he has fully accepted his failings during the postseason. He hasn’t gotten his spark back and is playing with a lot of tension. Sometimes he looks invisible on offence.

What are your thoughts?

The amount of joy I got from that was equivalent to when you first try a fry in a milkshake. It was beautiful.

Discussion Takeaways from G3: 122 Spurs 106 Mavs

De'Aaron Fox Steadied the Team | After a poor night against the Rockets, Fox recovered with a +25 night with 19p 9a and 3stl. He was the calming presence that held down the fort.

Defensive Shift in the 4th | The Spurs turned on their defensive effort in the fourth quarter. A 23-7 run was built on steals turning into transition buckets. Everyone was all over the Mavs and generated their own offense in the process. This is the Spurs identity.

Wemby Mid-Game Adjustment | Vic wasn't feeling it early to the point where he was forcing too many shots. Come the second half he adjusted and was all over the boards and the rim. He would end the night +32 with 23-7-2 and 4 blocks with no fouls.

Reed is Needed | Tarris Reed being plugged into the lineup after the Kornet unit struggled in the third spark life into the Spurs. He managed to grab 3 rebounds in only 7 minutes while providing screens that gave Devin Vassell space. The unit of Reed/Devin/Harper was some of the best basketball of the night. If Kornet is regressing Reed should be a solid backup.

Hesitancy at the Start | The Spurs were looking timid in the first half and still playing preseason basketball. Whatever Mitch Johnson yelled at them in the locker room about resulted in their typical selves returning to the court.

What are you takeaways?

Game Thread Who's gonna be the PF in starting line up?

Will Harris be the PF? Vassel in the 4 is really not working and I think coach mich needs to decide for fox and harper.
