General Question What’s the most overrated supplement on the market right now?

I'll start: fat burners. It's just caffeine with a $50 price tag and a dream.

Drop yours below. No one better say creatine!!

General Question How did our ancestors survive without vitamin D supplements?

I am genuinely curious about this. How did our ancestors survive in the past? I am not even talking about ages ago but more so the 1930s. I've got family members in their 90s who only started supplementing in the 2010s and led pretty normal lives? Was it because they were fed cod liver oil and things like that?

Mind you I am aware that we live alot better and longer thanks to supplements and antibiotics but there is such a high density of people 80+ in the UK who never had vit D pills before their later years that makes me question what has changed.

And obviously the UK is not sunny past October and is the ideal location for supplementation as we get 6 months of virtually 0 UVB. I am assuming it was even worse 70-80 years ago considering it was loads colder and people didn't go on holiday much to warmer countries cuz travelling was more of a luxury in those days.

General Question I was told Probiotics supplements are the biggest scam waste of money because they die in the stomach acid and don't colonize in the gut at all

Is this true? I was reading some discussions on probiotics supplements and they were saying it's the biggest scam, the stuff they sell in those capsules are already dead due to heat, and even the clinical grade stuff that cost a hundred dollars that they ship in a cold pack is just for temp relief for stomach issues they don't colonize at all.

One of the guys said only fecal transplant can really help. They were saying the best thing to do is fast and eliminate toxic processed foods, sugars from diet and introduce prebiotic or resistance starch foods to feed the good bacteria.

General Question What’s the most underrated supplement you’ve ever tried

I’m looking for supplement recommendations that are actually great but not the usual mainstream stuff everyone already talks about.

Not talking about the standard:

  • creatine
  • whey
  • magnesium glycinate
  • omega 3
  • vitamin D
  • caffeine
  • ashwagandha

I mean the more “hidden gem” supplements that made a noticeable difference for you personally in things like:

  • energy
  • focus
  • sleep
  • recovery
  • mood
  • stress
  • training performance
  • libido
  • overall wellbeing

Especially interested in supplements that:

  • have surprisingly solid science behind them
  • are underrated/not heavily marketed
  • people only discover after being deep into supplements for years

Would also love to hear:

  • what effect you noticed
  • how long it took
  • dosage
  • any side effects or things to watch out for

Basically: what’s your “why is nobody talking about this?” supplement?

General Question Why do so many people report hairloss from creatine?

I know that creatine is probably the most researched supplement ever and that every research finds no meaningful hairloss effect from creatine.

But why do so many people say that they lost hair? It seems so weird to me that so many people report hairloss that was reverted upon stopping creatine, but no study can find any evidence supporting these claims.

General Question What supplement did you stop taking, and then realize how much it was actually doing?

Ran out of magnesium glycinate for about two weeks and didn’t connect the dots until I was lying awake at 2am for the fourth night straight. Curious what else people only noticed in the absence.

Bought from Walmart. I never eat fish really. However I hear that some brands have mercury in them and other toxins. What’s up with that?

Not necessarily the most powerful one, just something that made enough of a difference that you wish you'd started years ago.

I don’t see why he needs to even be taking this but if it won’t harm him then I won’t stop him. He goes to the gym a lot and I assume he’s probably seen it on TikTok.

General Question Suggest me just one affordable supplement for chronic high cortisol please

Always on panic mode, fight or flight, can't sleep, memory issues after many tests everything came back fine except I've found that I've high cortisol and constantly stressed out.

Tried some magnesium bisglycinate before but didn't work.

Ashwagandha (both full spectrum and extract from swanson, jarrows ksm66, life extension sensoril) didn't help. Maybe a brand issues? Dunno

My currently stack is d3, b complex, magnesium citrate.

I'm not that rich so please suggest me one or two affordable supplements that may help with my issues.

Regarding Ashwagandha, If you've a brand that really works for you im all ears.

General Question What supplement surprised you the most by actually working?

There are plenty of supplements that get a lot of hype. But then there are some supplements people try something and genuinely notice a difference.

For some, it might be magnesium helping with sleep. For others, creatine improving workout performance, omega-3s supporting joint comfort, or astaxanthin helping with eye strain and recovery.

Of course, results vary from person to person, and not every supplement lives up to the marketing.

So, just curious:

What supplement actually surprised you by working?

What did you take it for, how long did it take before you noticed anything, and what changes did you experience?

Let's hear the real-world experiences including both the wins and the disappointments.

General Question What actually causes being exhausted even after a full 7 hours sleep?

A solid chunk of the tired posts here seem to come from people sleeping their full 7 hours and still waking up unrefreshed. Which makes me wonder if the 7 hour target does more harm than good, or if the hours were never really the point. So honest question: how many of you hit 7 and still feel like the sleep didn't count?

From what I've seen the answers usually fall into two buckets. Either the sleep itself is the problem even when the clock says enough. Fragmented or shallow sleep, maybe mild apnea, that whole rabbit hole. Or the sleep is fine and something else is running you down, which is where supplements come in. Thyroid, vitamin D, ferritin, B12.

Ferritin is one I keep running into. There's an older trial that claims ferritin and fatigue are linked. Women with normal blood counts took iron or a placebo for a month. Only the group with ferritin at or below 50 actually felt better. Women only, self reported, modest effect, 2003. Take it with a grain of salt, but the trial stuck with me. Curious what else fits here that I'm not thinking about.

So for anyone who got to the bottom of their own tiredness, what was it? A sleep study, a lab value your doctor didn't care about, a supplement that actually did something? And does anyone genuinely wake up rested on 7 hours, or is that number just what we all repeat?

General Question What is this blue liquid my MIL drinks?

We think it has something to do with copper, but she's not very forthright in explaining exactly what it is. She takes it in pipette sized dosages with drinks. Our main concern is whether it's actually safe for her.

General Question Safest supplement to take for high stress and anxiety.

I don't want to take antidepressants anymore, they make me feel awful and they don't help me.

I am going to re-haul my diet and try supplementing.

I've struggled for a long long time stuck in a vicious cycle of high anxiety, very stressful life (I help care for my mum who has advanced Alzheimer's), depression and a decade long battle with IBS-mixed, I need to come to terms at least with my IBS as it's not going to go away and nothing I have tried helps so instead of battling it I need to accept it's my nemesis and learn to live with it but I want to feel as relaxed and at ease as I can.

There must be something out there that can help ease my mental anguish whilst not giving me the 💩 every day.

I've looked at l theanine, ashwagandha, magnesium etc but many reviews say they upset their digestive system which I really don't want.

I know that I won't know my reaction to anything unless I try it but any suggestions would be most welcome.

General Question What’s one supplement this sub has completely backwards?

Every magnesium discussion here turns into a war. Someone swears glycinate fixed their sleep, the next person says it made them feel like shit. Creatine, fish oil, ashwagandha, same story.

I’ve spent months testing and changing my own stack, and one thing I don’t buy anymore is the idea that a supplement works the same way for everyone.
So which supplement do you think people here are completely wrong about? Something everyone swears by that you think is overrated, or something that gets trashed for no good reason?

I’m interested in what you’ve actually experienced, not what somebody on a podcast promised.

General Question Anyone take fish oil for a long time and see any results or not?

I was wondering has anyone taken fish oil for a few months and see any changes or not? I was wondering if anyone can share their experience taking it. I'm wondering if it actually does anything or cured any problems you had?

If you can mention the brand you're taking and how much dose would also be helpful.

General Question Guys I think I messed up with B12 and D3 supplements 💀

Post image
90 Upvotes

I'm 21M and recently got a blood test done after a mild fever, and these results kinda scared me lol.

I've been taking B12 (methylcobalamin 1500 mcg daily) and D3 (60,000 IU weekly) for almost 6 months straight, without missing a dose. The funny part is I started both just because of internet hype 💀 Never had a confirmed deficiency or anything.

Now my results are:

B12: >2000 pg/mL (normal range 211–940)

Vitamin D: 60 ng/mL

Has anyone else had this happen? Is the high B12 just because of the supplements? Should I stop both, and do I need to get my calcium and kidney function checked?

Lowkey regretting taking all this stuff without getting tested first 😭 What should I do now?
