AITA Quarterly Open Forum Oct - Dec 2026

Keep things Civil! Rules still apply.

Greetings Assholes!!! Happy All the Holidays between now and January 2027!! Way too many to list.

This quarter, we are going to go over Rule 3 - No Violence. A topic that’s dear to my heart and one that covers so many different scenarios.

The very heart of this rule is “Do not even mention violence”. Very simple on the surface, very complicated once you dive down. It sometimes seems like we are being too specific/granular on what constitutes violence - we get that. But violence tends to breed violence, so the most benign post/comment can spiral into some off the charts shit.

The violence rule break is often the result of a soft topic going off the rails. Example: Someone is put out by their partner picking food off of their plate. What we see: “stab them with your fork, that’ll teach them (assault)!” Or, someone is stealing lunches out of the break room - “just put some hot shit in there, that’ll teach them (poison/assault)” Or, the kid goes around hitting people (assault) begets “just beat their ass (assault)!” Simple, common things we’ve all said at some point in our lives. Still violence.

The hardest ones for us are those that deal with abuse of any sort. It’s easy to jump on that hate train. Truthfully, I’m probably on some of those trains, cause fuck abusers. BUT, we remove those comments/posts because they beget violence - it’s not that we don’t have opinions on those topics, far from it. These break the violence rule and, regardless of our personal opinion, it breaks the rule. It’s as simple as that.

We get MOD mails so filled with anger and spewing hateful shit because “How dare you remove that post for violence. Y’all must agree with them”. No, we don’t - violence is violence. There is enough of it out in the real world, we don’t need it here for any reason.

Finally, the real reason for reviewing this rule: Consent.

Very simply, if anyone touches you without your consent - this is assault. Sexual harassment counts! It is not ‘ick’, it is not ‘smile, they will go away’ - it is something covered by this rule. This is true regardless of gender. Understanding this will help the most when deciding if something is violence or not.

As always, do not directly link to posts/comments or post uncensored screenshots here. Any comments with links will be removed.

We'd like to highlight the regional spinoffs we have linked on the sidebar! If you have any suggestions or additions to this, please let us know in the comments.

AITA: I got a note on my windshield

1.3k Upvotes

I walked out to my rental car today on my way to return it. There was a note on the windshield that said “We got a 3 month old baby in this house you keep parking in front of. We shouldn’t have to park down the street”

I can’t emphasize this enough, it is impossible for me to “keep parking” in front of this house. I don’t own a car, I have a 3-day rental from this past weekend. They have never seen the car I’m driving before.

I am aware that new parents are under a lot of stress. Time and sleep are in rare supply and you want to get inside when you’re close to home. But what would make you feel like all the neighbors should both A) know you recently had a baby and B) should leave the closest available spot to your house open at all times? Again, this is a city street with no driveways. All parking is parallel parking style. There are no assigned spaces.

I left a note on their porch because I will give back the energy I receive. If they had said:

“Hey we have a newborn, we try to park as close to the house if we can, if you wouldn’t mind avoiding this spot when possible we’d appreciate it!”

I can totally respect that. I’ll try to avoid that space if there’s a reasonably close one nearby.

AITA for responding with this note?

“Parents of 3-month old baby-

Congrats on your child, but frankly it’s wild to ask neighbors to be aware you had a kid and then also ask for a permanent spot on a public street.

I have never parked in front of your house before, the way I know this is true is I do not own a car. This is a 3-day rental. So you’re seemingly harassing anyone who dares to park in front of your house.

When I have a car again I will continue to park in the best available spot on the street I live on. Congratulations on your new child.

AITA for not giving in to my sister bringing her child to our adults only vacation?

For context I am (f25) and my sister is (f32) with a 2 year old daughter who is about as high maintenance as a toddler her age can be. I have a brother (m21) who has been gone for two years on a service trip and will be returning next month. To celebrate him coming home we decided we wanted to have a vacation that is adults only (me and my siblings) and no children. Now my sister is insisting that her child be able to come because she can’t get childcare for the trip. Meanwhile my other brother (m29) and my other sister (f35) have gotten childcare for their combined six children which was no small feat with that many kiddos. The sister in question is very much a helicopter parent and her husband is as well. Overall we all feel that she should not be able to bring her child and just have to either not come to the trip at all, or leave her child with her husband and come alone. AITA or is she being unreasonable?

Edit for clarification: All siblings are bringing their spouses
Her husband is certainly invited, him staying with the child is a last resort due to not finding childcare

AITA for asking my wife to sleep on the couch

2.9k Upvotes

I need some opinions. My wife and I have been married for two years and we are in a tough spot.

About two and a half months ago my wife and SIL were in a car crash. My SIL did not make it and it has been devastating for my wife.

After this my wife fell into a depression state and lost her job since she was not going. I work in construction and the health insurance through my job kinda sucks. We were using her jobs insurance until she got fired.

My jobs insurance does not cover therapy and with one person not working, I am now working 10 to 12 hours shifts to keep us afloat. So to send her to therapy without insurance is a lot. We are tring to get some through the some program and are on a waiting list.

We live on a one bedroom apartment, so we sleep in the same bed. The issue is she has been having nightmare. I know she can not control that. Unfortunately she does wake me up in the middle of the nigh, either she is loud or she toss and turns a lot. With the 10-12 hours shifts I am exhausted.

Being woken up in the middle of the night makes it worse. My job is also physical so a soft bed is really needed or I will be in pain the next morning. I have slept on our couch a few times, it isn’t a new couch and I just feel like shit after sleeping there after a long day.

I asked her to sleep on the couch once or twice a week so I could get a good night sleep. We got into a huge argument and she is not talking to me at the moment.

I just want a good nights sleep and I can’t sleep on the couch or I will be in pain the next morning.

AITA for thinking my friend is entitled for constantly expecting restaurants to replace food she doesn’t like for free?

I have this friend who has a habit of sending food and drinks back at restaurants just because she doesn’t like the taste and it’s pissing me off

For example, we went out for dinner and drinks recently. She ordered a cocktail, tasted it, and decided she didn’t like it. She called the waiter over and asked for another drink, but she didn’t want to pay for the first one. She only wanted to be charged for the replacement. The restaurant agreed.

Yesterday, we went out to eat again, and she ordered pasta. When it arrived, she tasted it and said she didn’t like it, so she sent it back and ordered something else.

This time, the manager came over and told her she would still be charged for the original pasta. My friend got upset and started arguing with the manager about why should she have to pay for food she didn’t like. She was literally raising her voice, and I had to tell her to stop yelling.

Afterward, I told her that her reasoning made no sense to me. If there’s actually something wrong with the food, then obviously you should be able to send it back. But if you ordered something and got exactly what you ordered, how is it the restaurant’s fault that you don’t like how it tastes?

I told her to imagine if every customer who walked into that restaurant behaved like her. Everyone orders food, tastes it, decides they don’t like it, and expects the restaurant to throw it away and make them something else for free. How exactly is the restaurant supposed to function? Wouldn’t they eventually go out of business?

Like, I genuinely don’t understand why the restaurant should have to lose money because you ordered something you ended up not liking. Nobody forced you to order it. Sometimes you try things and don’t like them, and that’s fine, but why should that be someone else’s problem?

And then she started asking me why I was attacking her and why I was treating her that way.

Like what?? How am I attacking you? Because I’m telling you that I think you’re wrong?

The worst part is me asking her if she would behave this way if she was out with her boyfriend and not with me and she said no, oh so you know what you are doing isn’t right?

AITA... for telling people when they ask the real reason why my sister inlaws husband is in jail.

• Upvotes

My sister inlaws husband is in jail for offences against children. And its not the first time apparently. I won't say much more on that here. However she knew is history when she married him. He did more after they married and he went back to jail. I found this out after he had been around my children and getting a weird feeling so I asked my brother inlaw what has been happening, what is up with this guy and he spilled the beans to me the man's history and why hes in jail.. i felt sick. He has been locked up since earlier in the year and a lot of my sister inlaws friends & our family have been asking me if I knew anything because she is beating around the bush and not giving them all the same story. majority of the people asking me have young children.. like myself. so I felt like they deserved to know the truth because this man has been around them and they should know who she was exposing them to.

To me personally she is just as bad knowing his history and allowing him to be around children!!!

I feel sick writing this and I hope it'll make sense.

But since telling people I have felt a little guilty because I'm usually one to not tell people anyones business! and my husband (her brother) has said I probably shouldn't have said anything... Am I in the wrong? In my opinion I am right and would want to be told the truth. However I think because my husband has said something I feel like It wasn't my place to say something.... thank you for reading.

AITA for asking my husband to warn me if he's about to make an awful noise?

Hello my husband and I just had a disagreement and he told me to "go ask people" if I'm being unreasonable. He thinks it's an asshole thing to ask.

I kinda have misophonia but it's only triggered by a couple of things (hard candy and ice) so it's really uncommon for it to even come up.

One of them is chewing up a big hard candy like werthers. It's like fingernails on a blackboard, it causes a physical response, I can feel it in my ears and neck and teeth, and it's awful. Literally a similar physical response to fingernails on a blackboard, it briefly overrides every other sense.

I wish it didn't, I don't know why it happens, but here we are. He very rarely eats hard candies like this (and it doesn't happen with smaller candies only big ones, like werthers, big peppermint, and big ice cubes he never chews, that's the whole entire list) so it doesn't come up often.

He picked up a bag of werthers and just now I was cleaning and he ate one, when he crunched it up it triggered my fight or flight, like I took a few deep breaths and managed but it's still a situation I'd rather avoid.

The asshole thing— I asked him to warn me if he's going to chew up a hard candy so I can leave the room. He got extremely offended that i would even dare to ask that of him and said I'm totally unreasonable, it's my issue to manage and it's an asshole thing to even ask.

I told him if I knew something like this bothered him, Id give him a heads up first, honestly I wouldn't do it in the room he's in at all but that's just me. So he told me to go ask people, and that's what I'm doing.

Am I an asshole for asking him to warn me if he's going to make an awful noise akin to fingernails on a blackboard so I can leave the room? I'm not asking him to not eat them, just to give me a heads up so I can go somewhere else.

AITA for selling a car that my grandparents bought me as a birthday gift?

My grandparents got me a 2021 Jeep Compass Trailhawk for my 16th birthday right after I got my license. It was a previous rental, they bought it in 2023, and I’ve been driving it for about three years.

At first the thing was solid. I liked it, it was reliable, felt good to drive. Then the problems started stacking up. One thing after another. Eventually it got to the point where I was just throwing money at it and it still wasn’t right. Dealership offered me $9500 for it and I took the bag.

Car was in my name, insurance was in my name. I didn’t even start paying the insurance myself until I turned 18 cause I didn’t have a job before that.

Now my grandparents are pissed. My mom’s not happy either. They’re acting like I was supposed to keep it forever and just keep fixing it because it was a “gift.”

I get why they’re mad. They dropped real money on it for me and I know that was a big gesture. I’m not ungrateful for that. But I’m also not about to keep pouring money into a car that’s constantly breaking.

AITA for sharing my progress about weightloss

About two and a half months ago I got a personal trainer and started working towards losing weight. I started at 370 lbs or higher, don't fully know. Now im already down to 330. Im very happy with the progress ive made so far.

Last night I was at a friend's place, hanging out with 4 friends. In passing I mentioned how much ive lost, I didn't make an announcement type thing, just in passing, "hey ive managed to lose 40 lbs and im really happy about it"

This morning one of the friends texted me and said "I need to be more sensitive about talking about weightloss." Went on to say its physically impossible to lose that much in 2.5 months and I will make others feel terrible about themselves if they are trying to lose weight to.

I don't think its an asshole thing to share a milestone in my life, what do you think.

Edit: I just want to thank everyone for how encouraging you've all been, I was really bummed when they texted me that, but this all helps more than I thought it would

AITA for not wanting to take my MIL to the airport because we have plans?

• Upvotes

It will be my baby’s first Halloween. My husband and I got tickets to an event with our daughter. We’re going to dress up and it’s really family friendly. It’s at 9am. My MIL asked if we could take her to the airport at 12. I reminded my husband we have plans. He said our plans are at 9am. However, the event is a sold out event and gets very busy. We’re also going with a baby so it’s going to take even longer. I don’t want to rush. I want to enjoy my time there. My husband called me a bitch and said it’s hard to love me because he said I’m insinuating that our plans are more important. All I said was that this is our daughters first Halloween. Also, his sister has absolutely no plans and can take their mom to the airport.

AITA for not taking my kids to visit my parents?

My wife and I have two young boys, with a third child on the way. For years, we lived just two blocks from my parents, and we would take the kids over at least once a week, sometimes more. I wanted my boys to have a close relationship with their grandparents, so we made the effort.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law lived much farther away, about 9 miles away, but that never stopped her from visiting. She regularly drove to our house, spent time with the kids, and made an effort to be involved in their lives. She never expected us to do all the traveling.

Recently, we moved farther from my parents and closer to my mother-in-law. Now we are 2 miles from my mother in law and seven miles from my parents. You would think that now that the situation has reversed, my parents would make the same effort she made for years.

Nope.

My mother-in-law STILL comes over regularly, even though we live closer to her now. My parents, however, haven't made any effort to visit. Instead, they call and ask, "When are you bringing the boys over?" or tell me that I need to bring them by.

When I suggest that they come to our house instead, they try to guilt-trip me into bringing the kids to them.

Why is it automatically my responsibility to maintain the relationship between my parents and my children?

I love my parents, and I want them involved in my kids' lives. I'm not keeping the boys away from them. They're more than welcome to visit whenever they want. But I don't understand why my wife and I are expected to pack up the kids, drive over, and make all the arrangements when my parents are perfectly capable of coming to us.

We're raising two young children, preparing for a third, working, and managing our household. We already have enough responsibilities without being solely responsible for maintaining everyone else's relationship with our kids.

What bothers me most is that my mother-in-law has demonstrated for years that distance doesn't have to be an obstacle. She makes the effort because spending time with her grandchildren matters to her.

Being a grandparent is more than just having the title. Relationships require effort from both sides.

I've stopped going out of my way to take the boys over. Not to punish my parents, but because I want to see whether they'll take the initiative themselves.

So far, they haven't. They just keep calling and asking when I'm bringing the kids over.

Part of me feels guilty because my boys love their grandparents, and I don't want them missing out on that relationship. But another part of me feels that I'm setting a reasonable boundary.

I'm not asking my parents to do anything my mother-in-law hasn't already been doing for years. I'm simply asking them to make an effort.

My door is always open, but I'm done being the only one making plans.

AITA for ordering pizza?

I was invited to a birthday party (the person turned 33). Food was provided, but unfortunately there was nothing for me there (vegan). Which is not a big deal but later that evening the host of the location (a woodworking shop; a different person from the birthday person) and I were thinking about ordering pizza, which in the end we did, no one else wanted any. Pizzas arrived, I asked if anyone wanted a slice, some did, which I shared obv. Some time passed and another friend of the birthday person who was with them and other people the whole time in a different room, went up to me and said, that the birthday person were really mad about me (us, but specifically me) ordering pizza, as they could never eat pizza due to allergies.

I was annoyed that this was apparently now such a big thing. I was annoyed that a third person had to come to tell me that the birthday person was mad, instead of talking to me directly. But of course I also understand, that this is obviously a pain point of them and anyways, even if I think this might be overexeggerated, this had hurt their feelings.

So I went to them and told them basically exactly that and was apologizing, as I ofc didn't want to make them mad. They kept arguing. I told them I can't do anything more than apologizing. They kept arguing if I knew what it's like to smell something nice which you could not have? (as a vegan I do (the smell of BBQ in the summer, while I'm eating my bunny food ... ) but that's my choice ofc)
Anyways, they told me indirectly that they were kicking me out, which I complied and absolutely don't mind at that point. I mean, it's a fucking pizza, come on!

I would say, initially I'm the asshole for not thinking about their condition. It would've been better if I just left for 30 min eating and then come back, as there was nothing for me to eat there.

As this had happened, in my opinion I'm not the asshole as this was just blown up for no reason.

But that's just my view. What do you think?

edit: Thank you for answering so far, I really appreciate it. Tbh, I see all your points of me not being the asshole and also for me being the asshole here.

AITA for asking my roommate to share the living room?

My roommate moved her mattress into the living room and slept there for 3 days plus left garbage all over the place. I work nights and would come home to her sleeping in the living room (which is connected to the kitchen) and when I would get up before work she would still be there sleeping or watching TV. I’ve been unable to use the living room and have to tiptoe around the kitchen for days. I finally asked if she could move back to her room so I could also use the living room. She said I could’ve used it while she was sleeping there, then got super defensive and played the victim saying “I don’t know what I did wrong,” and took it as a personal attack. To me it seems like common sense to treat the living room, bathroom, and kitchen as common spaces and your bedroom as your personal space. I don’t know if I’m overreacting or if I’m justified in asking for access to the spaces I also pay rent for. AITA?

AITA for telling my friend she should be grateful her foster parents even wanted her after she got nasty with me for having to take care of my daughter?

This whole situation is so stupid yet has escalated in ways I never thought it would. To start off, I'm a 22 year old woman. I have a 2 year old daughter (had her at 19). I'm thankful to have had a great support system all around because it hasn't been easy. Anyway, I have a friend who I've known since late high school. We're relatively close and we're always there for each other. She was there for me the entire time I needed her to be and I've always told her how grateful I was. Her birthday was coming up so of course she decided to celebrate it with me and the rest of our friends from high school. I told her I'd make it work but as the day got closer, my daughter got sick. Unfortunately, my mom wasn't available for the later half of the afternoon when my friend's birthday celebration would start and I couldn't be there for the entire first half of it because there would be nobody to look after my child. The plan was that I'd watch my daughter until my mom came home from work and then I'd go to my friend's celebration. I thought that sounded pretty reasonable but not to my friend. She got upset about it and told me I could never stick to a plan (kinda hard when I have a young child and things come up but sure).

I told her I tried my best to come up with a plan but nobody was available all day due to differing schedules or other plans except my mom who could at the very least take care of my daughter afterwards. She somehow managed to turn the situation into something bigger by saying things like "the one day I actually want to do something super exciting, you can't even be there the whole time", "you're probably just going to back out last second", etc. I tried explaining it to her again and she told me I should've been smart enough to not get pregnant so early and how my daughter has done nothing but change things between us. I told her if that's what she thought, she could've a) expressed that to me in a simple conversation and b) I could just stay home since she honestly hurt my feelings with what she said. Like, I felt like total shit.

She told me "I'd expect nothing else of you, go take care of that damn child then" and that's when I told her that she should be grateful that her foster parents even wanted her because nobody else did. She hung up on me after. I didn't end up going because she texted me later saying not to bother and that I ruined her birthday. Of course I immediately felt bad but I apologized and explained that she made me feel bad first especially with the last few things she said. She only saw my message and didn't respond. She didn't block me on anything thankfully but still wouldn't answer me even after I waited a day to ask her how was she was doing, apologize again, and ask if she wanted to talk. I also had a gift for her that I still dropped off and that her dad took but she never texted me back and still hasn't. Am I an asshole for that?

Edit: I appreciate all the comments. I won't answer unless someone asks for more info but I was never trying to justify what I said to her or not in the way anyone thinks at least, I just wanted to explain where my head was at when I said those things. Whatever happens happens and if the friendship ends, it just does.

I'm literally not gonna repeat anything I already said in the comments/the post. If you can't read, that's on you.

AITA for snitching on my niece

I (28f) have a 13 year old niece. I generally have a very close relationship with her and she tells me pretty much everything that goes on in her life. I have always taken this as an honor, because a lot of teenagers are closed off and will not share anything with their loved ones. This may have come to bite me in the ass however. Last weekend she came over to my house and I asked her what her plans for Halloween were. She told me that she is planning on sneaking out of the house and going to a party where there would be drinking and weed. I immediately shut that idea down and told her how dangerous and irresponsible that would be. She didn’t seem super pleased with that response but she said okay and that she wouldn’t go to the party. Obviously I’m not going to trust the word of a 13 year old, so I informed her parents. I guess they talked to her as well because I got a text from her today telling me how mad she is at me for breaking her trust and that she never wants to speak to me again. I do not feel bad about keeping her safe but I am afraid that what I did may have lasting repercussions for our relationship. I do think I did the right thing in the moment but I am now afraid for the future. I am praying that I didn’t permanently ruin my relationship with my niece and I want to know if I made the right choice by telling her parents.

AITA for thinking its weird that my bf shares a bank account with his mom

guys is it weird that my bf (19m soon to be 20)shares a bank account with his mom and she can see his transactions? Like theres been many instances of her asking him about why is he spending this much money on me or like questioning him buying things….we r planning a trip soon he just put a down payment on our airbnb(we r splitting costs) and she kept texting him about it. Also once he wanted to treat me so he paid for my nails and she was rlly angry and wanted to see how they look to see if they were even worth it. I told him how this makes me uncomfortable so he told me that he hid his transactions but i just found out u cant do that…so he has been lying to me for like a year and a half(yes its been this long since this occurred)

Everytime i bring it up he says why its such a problem or that im overreacting, but i feel like she shouldnt be snooping on his privacy and that its weird that she should dictate or judge what he spends on me (literally nothing…)

So aita for thinking this way? Idk im just uncomfortable, it doesnt rlly seem like he cares so idk how to combat this without going to him about this problem…

AITA for washing my husbands keys

AITA I normally do the laundry in the household (just me and husband) I accidentally washed his keys and he could only find the emergency key that goes in the actual remote key and he doesn't have a spare. They were in the hamper and I just forgot to check and I feel horrible that this isn't the first time I've washed them he just has a bad habit of not emptying his pockets and I have a bad habit of not checking pockets. He is angry and was ignoring meand even said an out of pocket comment and I cried and apologized but there's only so much I can do. AITA?

WIBTA if I turned off family tagging on my social media after my aunt keeps doing it without asking

I am thinking about locking down my social media so relatives cannot tag me anymore. My aunt keeps adding my name to every family photo she posts, even when I have asked her not to. It is not huge photos or anything private, but it feels like she is deciding for me how much of my life shows up on other peoples feeds. I just want to limit who can label me without having to check every post twice. My cousin says I am overreacting because it is all in the family anyway and that turning off the tags will make my aunt feel shut out. She also worries it will make other relatives think I am hiding something or that I do not want to be included in group pictures anymore. I get that it seems small to them, but it is starting to bother me every time I see a new notification. I am not planning to make a big announcement or unfriend anyone. I would just flip the setting so nobody can tag me without permission. Still, I keep wondering if doing that quietly would come across as cold or dramatic to the rest of the family.

Not the A-hole AITA for asking for receipts?

1.0k Upvotes

I recently took a trip with my family. My sister ordered an Uber and later sent a Venmo request to split the cost after the trip. the problem is, it was over 2x what I saw when looking on the app at the same time. (I almost booked the ride and had the app up as well. ) Rides were around $70 at the most expensive . She said she paid $175. When I got the request I remarked that it was was more and asked to see the receipt. She says she doesn’t have one and can no longer login to her account. I told her I would pay for my portion of the $70 I saw until I saw the receipt and paid her the same day. Now she is upset and my family is saying I should “just trust her”. Shes also now refusing to pay me her portion of the phone bill and dropped me from our Spotify family plan. I’ve told her I’m willing to pay once I see the receipt. AITAH?

AITA for meeting my bfs favorite artist without him

For context, my boyfriend and I went to a concert last night with his cousin. We were there to see two artists we both really love. I’m not as deep into it as my boyfriend though and they were drinking quite a bit. His cousin disappeared for a while and when he returned, he showed us a photo with the artist and a signed shirt. My boyfriend was beating himself up because he didn’t get to meet him. I encouraged him to go with his cousin over and over but he refused because he didn’t want to miss the set list for the other artist. I asked his cousin to take me to him, took my bfs merch and I got it signed for him because he was so sad.
I tried RELENTLESSLY to get him down there to meet him. Sent several messages, called him and no luck. Then the artist had to leave.
At the end of the concert, I showed it to him and he was like “did you really meet him” and he was just so upset that we’d both met him without him.
He was very drunk and we haven’t talked since but I want to know if I messed up and just shouldn’t have done that.
I thought I was doing something amazing for him but I am no longer so sure.

AITA for going off on my Mother for "abandoning" me?

Hi reddit sorry for how vague this post is going to be but there are some individuals who could identify me by this post.

I come from a broken home, about 10 yrs ago my dad cheated on my mom and it tore my family apart. Since then both have gotten remarried and had children who are now the focal point of their lives, this often makes me feel ignored but I had managed to keep that hidden so far.

The catalyst for this shitshow was a game last weekend, I play college football at a major d1 program and we were set to have a big game. My mom has never been to one of my games due to both the distance and having to take care of my half brother, I bought the plane tickets and booked a hotel for her it was quite a bit of money but I was excited.

1 hour before the flight, she texts me that she won't be able to come as my brother is sick and to add insult to injury we lost the game even though I had a decent performance.

After everything was done I called my mother and kinda went off on her finally letting everything off my chest but I accidentally let the word abandoned slip off of my tongue and that completely broke my mom she started sobbing and hung up.

My step dad called me later and completely chewed me out, I apologized but he told me not to come back for christmas this year.

Initially I felt like a complete asshole for making my mom cry, but after pondering abt it for the last couple of days I am not sure anymore.

Since my mom has gotten married she hasn't been there for me at all

I had to move in with one of my relatives because she moved in with my stepdad (They lived in a different school district), she didn't come to see me when I got injured and she doesn't even call to check up on me nowadays!!

I should've been more sensitive abt my brother's sickness but all he had was a cold he would've been fine without his mom for a day and also my teammates being consoled by their parents might have made me a bit jealous before I called her.

So I am not sure anymore am I just an older brother who is jealous and throwing a tantrum or are my feelings legit?

AITA for not vacating my own room?

EDIT FOR CLARITY: there is no major infestation, her
Ex got a bite in her room and booked a few fumigation two weeks ago out of precaution. There has been no sign in my room ever or in hers since and this follow-up is a final check.

Two weeks ago, my flatmate’s ex brought bedbugs into our property and is paying for the treatment. I vacated for the initial fumigation with literally 20 minutes’ notice because I understood it needed doing.

Yesterday, she told me pest control were returning tomorrow between 9am and 1pm. I have an important job interview from 11–11:45am and another recruiter call at noon. I asked if it could be rearranged because I need to interview in my bedroom, I get very nervous in public spaces or with people around and this is a final interview for my dream job.

She initially described the follow-up as precautionary, but later insisted it absolutely had to happen tomorrow because eggs could hatch and cause reinfestation. Pest control apparently won’t treat if someone is home, can’t guarantee their arrival time, and might not accept another booking for two weeks. She offered to pay for a work café, but I explained that interviewing in public would distract me.

I asked why I’d only been told the day before. Only after I pressed her did she admit she’d assumed I had nothing going on between 9am and 1pm. Apparently, my entire morning was hers to allocate without asking.

I suggested exploring another appointment, even if another treatment had to be paid for. Since her ex brought the infestation in and is paying, I offered to contact him myself about the practicalities. I explicitly said I wasn’t suggesting she contact him or pay anything.

She replied: “I’m shocked your solution involved me reaching out to my toxic ex?” She asked how I could expect her to break contact and get him to pay another £600, said I wasn’t considering her mental health, and questioned why my interview was the only thing that mattered. She said contacting him would create more mess for her to clean up, that he wouldn’t take accountability, and that she couldn’t afford another treatment. She also said she’d apologised for the late notice and offered a solution by paying for a workspace.

I clarified that I was happy to contact him myself, purely administratively, and was not asking her to break contact or pay. I said I pay rent for my room and have every right to conduct an important interview there, where I’m most comfortable and focused.

She then insisted “no job interview can and should be prioritised over a pest control issue”, accused me of being unreasonable, and said the treatment had to happen tomorrow. I offered to explore alternatives, including another pest control company, but told her I would not be leaving the property. If the contractors arrived, I’d explain my position myself.

I’m not refusing treatment. I’m asking to postpone it by hours or a day after accommodating the first fumigation with 20 minutes’ notice. I’m baffled that she assumed I was free all morning, then made my interview sound selfish, brought her mental health into it when I offered to handle the practical solution myself, and acted as though I was unreasonable for not abandoning an important opportunity.

WIBTAH if I banned the neighbors kids from coming to play with our dogs?

Hi Reddit. My wife (27f) and I (30m) moved to the area back in January. It's a pretty rural area so we only have 2 close neighbors. Yesterday, 2 of my neighbors kids came over to our front door(which we don't use) and asked my wife if they could play with our dogs. She went out back in our fenced in yard and let the dogs out to play with the boys and stood out there with them. I wasn't home at the time, but when I got home, I made them leave because I had brought dinner home. This was okay of course because it was Sunday, we didn't have anything going on otherwise. Today, Monday, the boys came to our front door again asking to play with the dogs. My wife and I both work from home, and I'm on and off of calls all day and of course when they knocked the dogs went berserk like they usually do. My wife told them we were about to leave, which was true because we went out to eat eventually after we got off work. I have a feeling this is going to become a regular occurrence and honestly I'm pretty annoyed. We are complete strangers to this neighbor. I met him one time several months ago. I have never met these children and I'm not comfortable with them coming and playing with my dogs. If we let them, we have to sit outside with the dogs and basically babysit these children because I'm not leaving strange children alone with my dogs, plus if one of my dogs bites one of these kids, I'll be responsible, because one of our dogs can be a little snappy, not like aggressively but he play bites when he gets excited. If this starts happening frequently, would I be the asshole if I told these kids to stop coming by? Do I tell the parents? How do I avoid these children coming over here without looking like a total dick? My wife and I struggle with anxiety pretty bad and we're both pretty antisocial so I don't like the idea of confronting these parents.

AITA for moving out without notice

• Upvotes

For some context, my girlfriend and I rent a room with a couple who leases the apartment but rents rooms out to help with their rent. About 6 months ago, we were facing homelessness so we decided to move into this room while I looked for a better job. When we moved into the room, we saw that the kitchen and living room was disgusting since they never kept it clean. Dirty dishes everywhere and it always had a rotten smell so we decided to not use it since we felt like it's not our responsibility to clean their giant mess. We always kept the bathroom clean and our general area clean. We had to park on the street since they wouldn't give us a key to park in the gated driveway and the area we live in has a lot of crime so that was another reason we are deciding to move. This couple also rented out two other rooms to sketchy people, one of whom stopped showing up and the other just moved out randomly. We let the couple know about a week ago that due to the poor living conditions we decided to move out now that we can afford a better place to live in and we appreciate the help they offer but it's not ideal for us to stay here anymore. We already paid the rent for this current month of October and we plan to be gone before the month ends and we even offered for them to keep the deposit if it helps. I understand it's normally common courtesy to let them know a month in advance but my girlfriend and I were able to get help in securing an apartment in a nice area with a kitchen we can use. The couple was annoyed and said regardless we have to pay next month's rent since they were depending on our rent to cover their rent for the month because they can't afford it. Then they'll have to do an inspection and see if there was any damage to see if we can get our deposit back but they're already subtracting $180 for the water bill coming in December. Which makes me believe they might not even give me the deposit back so I was deciding on moving out in one day without letting them know since I do not want to pay another month in rent. Am I the asshole if I decide to do that? I truly do not care about the deposit but I wouldn't want to pay another month in rent when I'm going to be gone before that.
