Other Cat - Captivity TIL that jaguars, leapords, lions and tigers can all produce offspring

Now, forcing a hybrid between these animals is not good, moraly. It's cool in theory but it's usually done to get a zoo more attention, and I think thats wrong.

HOWEVER! The fact that a male jaguar and female leapord's offspring is called a jagualep is so funny to me.

It's very cool that these animals, from ENTIRELY DIFFERENT parts of the world are able to breed and produce a new animal.

Im not sure if snow leapords are able to do that aswell but it's astounding that these hybrids can exist. These animals will very rarely run into eachother. Leapords and lions can more often but they don't find eachother attractive so unless theyre really desperate it's NOT happening.

Again, I don't think zoos should be forcing these hybrids. I think it's fascinating yes, but it's not okay to force these animals to breed. Especially if it's for profit. Even if that zoo is trying to get more money to care for the animals, it's still at the very least morally grey to force two animals to make a hybrid that's just for show.

It IS interesting. Tigers and lions are never going to run into eachother in the wild, but they can mate and make a cub. THATS SO COOL.
