Advice on new baby swallowtails in late October

I was in the garden harvesting a bunch of parsley before the frost hits my area for real later this week.

And I found 3 relatively fresh baby black swallowtail caterpillars. I saw that they overwinter as a chrysalis or will overwinter as is... But I'm wondering if they're too young for that. One looks legit a few days old (first pic for ref)

Any advice on how to proceed?

There were tons of them just flitting about!! I've never seen this butterfly before. The orange is stunning all on its own, but the underside is a while other thing!! It's sorta hard to see in my photo, but it's worth looking up just to see their underwings. So beautiful 🦋🌸🦋🌸🦋

I was kind of surprised to see this little guy on a Mum. Especially because of the pyrethrin.

Severely Injured Mourning Cloak

Hello everyone, It's my first time talking here but I would appreciate some help!

In July of this year, we found an injured mourning cloak in the garden and took them in. They only have one leg, and their wings are severely tattered. We knew nothing of how to take care of a butterfly, and at the time didn't even know the species. We are complete beginners to understanding butterflies and are unsure of proper ways to care for them.

When we found them, someone I live with (Person A) suggested we leave them to nature and if they survive or pass away that is only natural, but we decided to keep them and ensure their safety since this butterfly is unable to even get feed for themself, fly properly, or hang onto a branch. After some research, we discovered this butterfly goes into aestivation(?) during summer and comes out later. Someone else I live with (Person B) disagrees that this is true, and thinks we should try to have them in the sun to release chemicals into their wings, as well as try to fly and get exercise. In July, we did try and have the butterfly fly but it went poorly and we read online the sun disturbs this butterfly during aestivation. Since then, we have kept this butterfly in a shoebox with paper towels and new "syrup" (1 part sugar, 7 parts water) every couple days.

We all feel sorry for them and want them to have a more enriching environment, but Person B suggests a mesh containment whereas I think a darker environment is more suitable due to aestivation. So! I decided to come here and ask some questions and see if I can get more expert advice to some questions.

Question 1: If this is in fact a mourning cloak, would they be young or old?

Question 2: Are their tattered wings from coming out the cocoon, or are they truly injured?

Question 3: Are they in aestivation? What should their containment be like?

Question 4: What exactly should we feed them and how often?

Question 5: Do they need exercise or enrichment?

I apologize If I accidentally ignored any rules or etiquette, as I mentioned I'm new here so I much appreciate your patience! I feel very sorry for this poor butterfly and would really appreciate your help. Thank you! 🦋

Found this friend on my garage floor. What should I do?

Hi!

This morning I found this little friend at the floor of my garage entrance. I immediately was excited about the possibility of it being a butterfly caterpillar.

So, first, I'd ask if any of you can confirm or deny if it is a butterfly caterpillar and what species.

Second, in case it is a butterfly, what should I do next. I am located in northern Portugal and this week the temperatures have dropped significantly and I want to improve its chances of surviving and procreating when the time comes. I am also worried I can squash it with my car's tire or that my dog will have a taste of it.

Any advice is appreciated as I just want the best for this little friend.

Thank you

Made a post to ID (Clouded or Orange Sulphur is the consensus) but didn't post the best pictures. Likely the best I've taken of an insect to date. Enjoy.
