Strategy Are the sleepers still sleeping? A look at all the top preseason sleeper picks a month in
galleryHi All,
We took 20 skaters who went late in drafts and received an enormous amount of sleeper hype predraft and checked where they rank now among all skaters, in points scoring and in banger scoring, plus the role behind it: linemates, power-play share and ice time.
Wide awake - Podkolzin: ADP 263, now 27th in points and 13th in bangers. Top line with McDavid and Draisaitl, 54% of Edmonton's PP time. Filling in on the top PP again now with Hyman likely concussed. - Quinn: ADP 271, now 42nd. 11 points in 11 games, 69% of Buffalo's PP. - Stankoven (28th), Roslovic (45th) and Perfetti (47th) are all top 50 from ADPs of 217 to 281. - Lekkerimäki is the biggest gap against our preseason projection: 0.69 points a game against the 0.15 we had him at. His ice time went from about 11 minutes to 15 to 18 after his fourth game.
Stirring - Kent Johnson: top line with Fantilli and Nichushkin, 66% of Columbus's PP, 7 points in 9 games, ranked 130th. Leads Jackets forwards. - Shabanov (98th) and Hagens (93rd) are both inside the top 100 from ADPs near 280 to 290.
Has the role, not cashing it - Kantserov plays on Chicago's top line with Bedard and Kane and gets 67% of the team's PP, but has 4 goals, 0 assists in 11 games. Of everyone here, the most opportunity behind the fewest points. - Parekh (67%) and T.J. Hughes (63%) are in the same corner.
Still asleep - Kreider (ADP 230, now 354th), Chinakhov (315th, day to day), Chernyshov (306th, out with an upper-body injury), Wood (315th) and Barkey (359th). Rest easy my friends.
Scoring: points rank is G 2, A 1, PPP 0.5, SOG 0.1; banger rank adds hits and blocks. Full write-up with every player's line and PP role: https://hockey.kodoanalytics.com/articles/sleepers-check-2026-10-25
