Discussion Something I've noticed as a furry artist🐱 (by me)

Post image

I feel like the visual box for female characters is very narrow. A female character has to be very feminine in order to be perceived as a woman. Neutral characters are almost always read as male.

As someone who likes to create gender neutral character designs, they're almost always interpreted as male by viewers, no matter if the character is male, female or non-binary. I think it's kinda sad that neutrality is automatically seen as male so widely in our society. That's why I wanted to make a quick post about this topic, just to spread information and to wake people to question their assumptions.

I wish neutrality could also be seen as female, instead of being automatically interpreted as male. Let's expand the box of womanhoodšŸ™Œ

(Gotta appreciate people who don't just assume but use they/them when it comes to characters whose gender they don't know!)

Discussion I found these in my little brother's pencil case, what does it mean?

Post image

I’m not really into this kind of stuff, but my little brother is 12, I'm his older brother. I found these in his pencil case. I’ve suspected for a while that he might be a Furry, one of his hobbies is making furry masks out of paper. I don’t have any problem with that or with whatever he chooses to be. My mom and I just have sometimes wondered if he might not be straight, since most of his friend group is girls. Whatever he is, we’ll always support him. I just want to understand what this means, since it looks like one of the LGBTQ flags.

Discussion Can't Public Suit :(

I was wanting to go public suiting at my local Walmart and was told to remove the mask and the employee followed us until we left.

It was my first time publicly suiting. I thought it would help my anxiety a little bit... I fear this incident has made it worse.

Discussion [Q] Does typodoesart (twitter) use gen AI?

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

I am strongly convinced that this artist involves gen ai in some way in their creative process.
I think they do have some drawing skills but the more I look at their page the more odd things I find.
In this drawing, the character is floating and it has the usual AI POV of being very up close to the screen. Furthermore,if you look at his right foot it seems like it’s not well…cut (?).

I got curious about this artist because I saw a provocative art that @GoodBoyKnox posted on twitter commissioned by Typo where the character is looking at nothing (AI struggles a lot with eyes) and the proportions and field of depth on that one are weird as well.

Here are the reasons why I think they use gen AI for most of their drawings:

-Some characters (like this one) are floating.

-There is a huge variety of art styles ,like a massive amount. This is usually a telltale sign that Gen Ai is used.

-Many characters in their page have an odd and directionless design as if they are an amalgamation of different characters (an example from their most recent works with the caption goatem)

-They do post images of their work from procreate ,but oddly enough all of their screenshots show a brush with maximum opacity used and the size of the brush is more or less the same as well. I find this detail curious cause what are the odds that they never take a screenshot from procreate while they are using a different size and opacity. Could be a purposeful choice but I find it odd.

-They also post an industrial amount of detailed artworks, like I know that if an artist is good they can draw detailed stuff quickly ,but it seems like they are able to post multiple detailed drawings a day which seems a bit too much?

So many of their drawings trigger this instinct in my brain that tells me it’s AI and I do not feel it for random artworks;I thought I had gotten good at identifying AI art but this is giving me doubts. I think some of their drawings are legit but not most of them.

Anyway I’m asking for some help because I feel like I’m going crazy in seeing AI involvement but not being able to ā€œprove itā€.

(P.S. I put ā€œqā€ in the title because Typo on their page has SFW content but features many characters with poor or no clothing at all)

I fell for a scam - paid for what I assumed I would be getting a character ref sheet by an artist - only to be sent a single angle that I am almost certain is Ai generated- and that sucks - please be wiser then me.

Discussion Is this person trying to sell me AI?

Post image

(I'm not mentioning the artist because I don't want to leave a negative mark on their career incase this is real)

I've been talking to this artist about a commission for the entire day and I asked him to send me a picture of the unfinished work so I can confirm that it's real. They sent me this and I immediately became skeptical. They want 140 usd for this and I'm really starting to doubt it's real. When I told them to send me the unfinished work they took almost an hour to send it and when I asked them to send an image from another angle they went silent. I even put it though an ai image detection test and it came back 94%. I might need to find a new artist.

I've always prices my art low, and I mean LOW for the amount of time I put into each piece specially reference sheets, but once I raised it quite a bit (to 60-80€ fullbody shaded) people stopped asking for coms 🫠 so how much would you pay for smth like this?

Discussion Plantigrade or Digitigrade For OC [Art by Fish7163]

Post image
6.0k Upvotes

I wanted to finish my sona after completing some anatomy drawing books first. But I need a break on drawing disembodied limbs.

Thinking I might try finishing him now, but I can’t decide on plantigrade or digitigrade legs. I really like digitigrade, but I feel they have to be pulled off just right. #3 seems decent without feeling unbalanced or too feral, I guess would be how to put it.

What do you guys think?

Discussion Does this count as a furry?

Post image
3.6k Upvotes

So, a furry is just an anthropomorphic animal right? Or is it more? Do I decide if it's a furry?

(Sorry for the kinda bad art. I wanted to put another better-looking picture, but it doesn't allow 2, and the other picture I wanted to put was just a headshot, so I just put the only other one with a full body.)

Also, I have cat OCs. They're technically anthropomorphic because they speak and think like humans, but they don't stand up like Rocky here does.
