IDPA "Junior" Category? .22 Rimfire?
I just recently got back into IDPA and my 12 year-old son, who has attended matches helping pasting, etc., now wants to start competing. He is very proficient with all types of firearms and has been shooting since 6 years old.
My question is whether anyone has their kids shooting IDPA as well. I understand that there is a "Junior" subcategory and that a match director can set up a "Specialty Division" to allow for them to shoot .22 rimfire. I haven't seen any kids in my local club matches.
I would like for him to start shooting a G44 (.22) for the first 3-4 matches so that he can get comfortable with the safety, procedures and nuances of IDPA (cover, no-shoots, etc.) and then integrating a G19 with 9mm.
Any advice or observations? Has anyone seen any sanctioned matches with a Junior subcategory with them shooting a .22?
Thanks
