Help Ask for help here
Microsoftsucks is not a techsupport subreddit, but naturally because people come to this subreddit after having a problem with a Microsoft product which made then say "Microsoft sucks! I am fed up!", they are going to make a post to ask for help! and sometimes a post from this subreddit is going to show up on the search results and that leads people to then ask for help here. Which is a nice way the subreddit gets promoted to people who never thought of Microsoft being so bad

Garbage! Glad to see MSFT pumping out shit as "value"
To $0 <- Uncle Sugar would _NEVER_ allow this POS enterprise to sink into the sea... but the agentic era will reveal how a $500 per share stock price can erode to $jack-shit in a quarter if not for the Sugar-Teets of our Uncle Sam...

Bugs and Errors Microsoft silently enabled a half-baked passkey setting in Windows 11 and locked me out of my browser extensions
Leave it to Microsoft to push an update in the background that changes your OS security settings without asking, tells you nothing, and breaks your existing setup.
A recent Edge/Windows update completely broke biometric/PIN passkey logins on all my browser extensions (Rabby, Jupiter, etc.). Every time I entered my PIN in the Windows Hello popup, Windows threw a generic "Something went wrong - There was a problem signing in with your passkey" error, while the browser console spat out `NotAllowedError: The operation either timed out or was not allowed`.
Why? Because Microsoft quietly added Microsoft Password Manager as a system-wide passkey provider inside Windows 11 settings and flipped it ON by default.
Whoever coded this didn't bother testing browser extensions. When an extension (extension:// or chrome-extension://) asks for a passkey signature, Edge hands the request to Windows, and Windows hands it right back to Edge's OS passkey plugin. Because Microsoft's password manager only understands standard https:// websites, it slaps a broken https://chrome-extension prefix onto the extension, gets stuck in a loop with itself, and dies. Every failed attempt also spammed a brand-new duplicate passkey into my account until I had dozens of dead keys sitting there.
I didn't even know this Windows setting existed because Microsoft never showed a single prompt before turning it on. If you don't remember your wallet's master password, this bug makes it look like your local vault is permanently bricked.
How to fix Microsoft's mess:
- Open Windows Settings (Win + I) -> Accounts -> Passkeys.
- Click Advanced options
- Toggle Microsoft Password Manager to OFF
The second I turned that off, Rabby unlocked via PIN on the first try and Jupiter registered a new passkey without issue. Even dumber: the passkeys still save and sync inside Edge's password manager under my Microsoft account anyway, so that OS-level toggle was doing nothing except breaking extensions.

Where are the "cuffs"?
Bill Gates won't be missed. In the lore of American history, he's already relegated a _complete swine_, a total loser.
Where are the cuffs? There was talk about cuffs. Where are they??

Point-in-Time restore and System Restore share the same quota (genius)
Another day, another genius decision by Microsoft:
Point-in-Time Restore (PITR) and System Restore share the same quota, so there’s a good chance you’ve already lost most of your restore points by now.
And PITR is capped at 50 GB (and potentially even less by default: 2% of the drive). Isn’t that genius?
Of course, you can configure System Restore to use more space, but… PITR will reset it to its own value after a while, purging the oldest restore points in the process.
I’m lost for words. I can’t believe they didn’t test this.
Even better: the quota seems to get reset even with PITR turned off. I’m baffled.

New Outlook still terrible
I was attempting to add this contact in the new Outlook app, and every time I clicked the button to add the contact, a failure message popped up. Switched over to the classic Outlook app, and apparently it didn't fail any of the times I tried to add her.

It's unbelievable how garbage the new Outlook app is. This is just one of a myriad of issues I was having today that I would assume would be core and fundamental functionality for an email application - creating folders that would then suddenly disappear, moving emails to those folders that would then suddenly display back in my inbox. Microsoft is investing an amount of money that could probably end world hunger into AI to help increase everyone's productivity, but more and more I'm spending more time just figuring our how/why their core applications are gaslighting me!
Microsoft - sincerely - what the fuck are we doing?

I want the name of the developer. Microsoft Authenticator loop
I see lots of folks have had the same loop issue with the Microsoft Authenticator app, and now I'm in it too. I want to know if this was designed with the intent of being as impossible as possible.
Here's what's happening: I'm logged into the app. I go to connect my work account login, and it tells me to download the app. I'm already there. It's downloaded. I'm inside it. I hit cancel and it dumps me right back at the "Add a work, school, etc." page. Rinse, repeat.
Did MS beta test this at all, or did they just drop this mess on the world because some child developer told them it worked and was a great new security tool?
I would love to have the email of whoever signed off on this. I'd like to tell them what I think, ideally face to face, but I'm in Washington DC and I'm guessing Redmond isn't dropping by.
Has anyone actually gotten out of this loop? Any fix that worked, whether it's clearing the app cache, reinstalling, a different sign-in route, or something your IT department had to do on the backend? I'll take any workaround at this point.

Windows or another product I just released win-optimizer, a Windows tool I’ve been using myself for a while
Hi everyone!
I’m the developer of win-optimizer, an app for Windows 10 and 11 that brings cleanup, customization, and system maintenance tools into one interface. I’ve been using it myself for a while, and I’ve now released it publicly.
Here’s what you can do with it:
- Remove unwanted apps and review leftover files and registry entries.
- Clean temporary files, caches, and broken shortcuts, with scan results you can inspect and select before deleting anything.
- Adjust privacy, gaming, power, and desktop settings.
- Manage startup entries, inspect running processes, and access Windows diagnostics.
- Monitor hardware activity through a desktop widget.
One feature I’d like feedback on is Test mode. It lets you prepare changes to supported settings before applying them. You can also inspect the registry values, scripts, and dependencies behind settings, and review before-and-after values in the change history. App-residue cleanup creates a verified backup before deleting selected items.
The app supports Windows 10/11 x64, with regular and portable installation options. The source code is available on GitHub.
Project: github.com/sh1zen/win-optimizer
Download: Latest release
Now that it’s public, I’d appreciate feedback from people using different hardware and Windows configurations. Which tools are useful to you? Is anything confusing or missing?
If you encounter a bug, you can comment here or open a GitHub issue. Your Windows version and the steps to reproduce it would help me investigate.

rant Windows is making me lose my fucking mind.
I'm trying to install Fedora KDE alongside Windows. I have a 1tb ssd with Windows and a 2tb ssd with a single ntfs partition and over 1.3tb free. windows won't let me shrink it by more than 700gb. On my system drive, I have over 500gb free, but it won't even let me shrink it by more than 100gb.
I've tried disabling hibernation, messing with the pagefile, running chkdsk, and a bunch of other shit. Now apparently ntfs metadata is the problem.
I just want to give Linux 350gb and keep a smaller Windows partition for a few games and some old projects. I know I could try resizing the partitions offline, but I really don't want to risk messing up my windows installation just to do this.
It's so fucking ridiculous. I'm not trying to create more space out of nowhere. The space is already free. I just want to use it for something else.
How is this still such a pain in 2026? I just want to use Linux, man...
