Protest held on Oct 24 against police violence. The protesters marched in response to 2 cops getting (paid) suspensions after one(?) was accused of urinating on a person.

Protest chants included «renvoyez le pisseur», «les scalpeurs en prison», «get a real job», and «tout le monde déteste la police».

Police used tear gas, batons, shields against the protesters. 4 were arrested and 1 (presumed non-participant) was injured.

Discussion Mont-Royal Ave is no longer fully pedestrianised and everyone hates it. I've made a form that lets you easily email the government to make it car-free permanently.

Mont-Royal Ave in Plateau is full of cars again as of mid October. Everyone I know in the Plateau thinks it should still be pedestrianised. It's safer, more beautiful, and plain more efficient when it's car-free.

If you also want Ave Mont-Royal to be car-free all year, I've made a form that lets you easily send an email to both the Mayor of Montreal (Soraya Martinez Ferrada) and the Borough Mayor of Plateau (Cathy Wong). It petitions them to make Mont Royal permanently pedestrianised. It lets you choose which reasons you feel the street should be car-free and your relationship to the avenue. There's also a section that lets you enter in your own paragraph. It doesn't collect any information about you and the email you send goes out from your own address. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Here is the link: https://pedestrianisemontreal.ca

Discussion Itinérance : quels petits gestes peuvent faire une différence?

Question Should the city consider having big main Christmas tree 🎄 for the holiday season like NYC?

Hello fellow residents!
I was wondering about this since last winter but does anyone remember when the last mayor tried to do a city tree a la Rockefeller but failed miserably and the poor tree was dubbed the “sad sapin” ?
Welp, I’ve been thinking about this as mentioned since last winter and thought the city should try to do it again but have a better process for selecting a big and beautiful tree but the location is what has me stumped, because first I thought somewhere in the city center like Square Phillips but then I thought probably not cuz the fountain’s there, then I thought maybe more appropriately near city hall close to the old port but then I didn’t really see a good spot for it, maybe in front of the huge Ferris wheel but then it would block the wheel so that probably wouldn’t work, later I thought of a couple more spots but then reconsidered those probably wouldn’t work either, now I’ve settled and thought it might work if they put it in Jarry park, there’s a lot of open space there just before the basketball courts and they could probably even setup a Christmas village for the holiday season. What does everyone think, would this sound like plausible idea/suggestion for the city/new mayor?

Thanks in advance for any feedback 🙏😊

PS: Reposted because I forgot to ask as a question in the title 😅

Question Help looking for specific camera

Bonjour,

Merci!

———————

Hello,

Anyone knows where I can buy a Sony RX100 VA (new or used in good condition) in Montreal or around (+/- 2 hour drive)? I’m also open to a place that ships to home. I’ve been scouring facebook marketplace for months now with no luck and I can’t find any store that sells it that isn’t ebay (I don’t trust buying from there).
Thanks!

Tourisme Buying License Plates

Hello everyone, I will be visiting Montreal in a couple of weeks for the first time. I am a license plate collector, and in the States, we typically can find/buy them at antique malls or flea markets. I was curious if anybody knew of a store in Montreal that would sell them? Any help is appreciated!

What's going on with the new STM mobile website? The live location map with nearby bus lines and schedules has changed for the worse. The previous proximity map was straightforward and easy to use and configure, now all our favourites have disappeared!

Question Navigating the current job market as an anglophone?

Hi everyone! Sorry if this subject has been spoken about before on here, but I'm writing this for my husband, who's currently in the process of learning French but isn't proficient enough to use it in a professional setting yet. I grew up here and speak both French and English, so when he asks me for advice on how someone like him can find a job here, I struggle to offer meaningful solutions. I've asked friends, and they tend to respond with different ways of saying 'I got lucky' or 'right place, right time' (understandably, since that's how it worked out for them).

Setting aside the sorry state of the job market right now, I'd like to ask if anyone who also lives in our city and works in the 'anglosphere' has practical and/or tangible advice I could pass along, or could share how they were able to secure a job. I would appreciate it more than you know! For context, he has a grad degree in STEM but is flexible in terms of fields, and isn't aiming for a specific salary.

TL;DR Do you have any advice on how to find a job in Montreal, as an anglophone?

Merci :)
