Still getting bullied

‱ Upvotes

Newer to the sport of Muay Thaiz I use to box before for a year but never sparred. I went with a pro in sparring and got my ass handed to me 2 weeks ago Felt like the guy was going damn near 100% when I was doing 60-70. Took a million hard hit to face and legs kicks.

Anyway the next week when we sparred I went with my coach and he beat my ass even harder. I was expecting to get a good light spar with my coach were he would let me get good openings and try to capitalize and piece together combos NOPE. He had a counter for every single thing I threw. Got nearly knocked down I was getting hit so hard in the face and then the clinch I was taking tons of knees to the stomach then swept and thrown on the ground. When I spar I’m literally now afraid of even throwing anything cause I know I’m gonna get countered on everything and potentially dropped. When I spar now I’m Just trying to survive the round. I have never thrown a kick in my life until I start Muay Thai 2 months ago and I’m getting kicked hard af in the leg when I haven’t even learned how to check leg k idk or drilled them. How do I go about this? Am I suppose to expect this cause I’m new? Or is this just wrong. Coach and everyone is nice to me but when it comes to sparring it’s like they want to kill me. I don’t feel like I’m learning when we spar. Should I match the pace and try to give it back?

Me and another coach from a local gym in Saigon. He's got a kickboxing match coming up so is changing up his style a bit.

This is my gym for anyone in Saigon. Open mat sparring 4pm Sundays. Normally 30-35 people. All levels.

Pre fight nerves

How do you deal with pre fight nerves. I’ve had 4 pro fights and a decent amount of smokers + amateurs but I still get incredibly nervous before a fight. What’s been the best way you have found to deal with it ?

Technique/Tips Fighters who are good at checking hands/being sticky?

I've been trying to focus more on fighters who do good at checking the opponents hands to get into range to clinch or land strikes. Along with that just anyone with good physicality and frames, just looking for people who do a good job of imposing there physicality and using it to shut people out of the fight. Some examples of what I'm talking about, in Superlek vs Rodtang Superlek did a great job of checking his hands later in the fight to hamper his boxing and let him get off his kicks and knees. Giorgio Petrosyan does a great job of using frames and hand fighting to deny people a return on him and pushes some times to set up some shots. Different sport but a big example of what I'm looking for is similar to young George Foreman who would be constantly shoving people, checking both hands and using it to coral people into gigantic shots. Let me know who y'all look to for this and thanks always!

How to land hooks to the body as a taller fighter

I want to get better at landing clean hooks to the liver. I find whenever I fight someone good my one move that gets me to land doesn’t work.( I switch step faking the switch kick into a body hook) especially against shorter and heavier fighters. It can feel like I am putting my face on a plate to get punched. My other moves to like a cross to liver shot, or jab to liver shot. Just don’t land on experienced guys. I generally fight out a pretty tight guard. So anything other than a cross to the body. I feel exposed.

I like sparring hard with this 5,9 heavy 230pound guy and I am 6,4 220pounds. But all I can do is hit his face right now. He catches half my kicks and charges into the inside with punches in bunches. All I can do is pop my job and move. ( he only shows on kickboxing days so can’t really clinch and knee)

Any tips or tricks to improve my liver shot????

This looks sick as fuck. I don't think I've ever seen a Muay Thai game specifically, and the last actual Kickboxing game I can think of came out in the early 00s

Kickboxing / Muay Thai Feeling Faint

Hey guys I’m looking for some advice. I’ve been doing kickboxing for a year now, however have been doing sports and gym from the age of 6. When doing intense sparring sessions I have to stop midway as I feel like I will faint or throw up or have a panic attack. Other day my lips turned blue and I couldn’t breathe and was about to faint.
Spoke to my coach he said I need to build up my cardio, but it’s only me that has this happen to them.
I’ve spoke to a doctor and they weren’t sure what to suggest.
Any ideas ? I’m 5”10 young woman, don’t smoke.

Training and anxiety

Hi guys

I signed up for a training camp in Krabi and im going in January. Im really looking forward to the camp! The thing is, I done some BJJ before but I used to get kinda bullied by a guy from my BJJ team, like sometimes when he was in mount he would slap my face in a jokingly way.

Since then ive been struggling with standing up for myself and fighting back when people cross my boundaries. I also used to get bullied at school for many years.

Im gonna begin practicing Muay Thai at home, but im kinda worried that if I begin training in my home country from November to December that I might experience something like what I experienced at BJJ? Do I just jump into the unknown, and how should I react if someone bitch slaps me a muay training or is that an unlikely fear? (I do see a therapist, and I am diagnosed anxiety)

M21, 178cm, 87kg.
