Fluff Banchero is out for possibly over a month with the same type of injury Fox sustained in the playoffs
I got a newfound of respect for Fox after he only got to rest less than a week before he saw that the team needed him and he came back way too early to help lead them to the Finals

Discussion Takeaways from G3: 122 Spurs 106 Mavs
De'Aaron Fox Steadied the Team | After a poor night against the Rockets, Fox recovered with a +25 night with 19p 9a and 3stl. He was the calming presence that held down the fort.
Defensive Shift in the 4th | The Spurs turned on their defensive effort in the fourth quarter. A 23-7 run was built on steals turning into transition buckets. Everyone was all over the Mavs and generated their own offense in the process. This is the Spurs identity.
Wemby Mid-Game Adjustment | Vic wasn't feeling it early to the point where he was forcing too many shots. Come the second half he adjusted and was all over the boards and the rim. He would end the night +32 with 23-7-2 and 4 blocks with no fouls.
Reed is Needed | Tarris Reed being plugged into the lineup after the Kornet unit struggled in the third spark life into the Spurs. He managed to grab 3 rebounds in only 7 minutes while providing screens that gave Devin Vassell space. The unit of Reed/Devin/Harper was some of the best basketball of the night. If Kornet is regressing Reed should be a solid backup.
Hesitancy at the Start | The Spurs were looking timid in the first half and still playing preseason basketball. Whatever Mitch Johnson yelled at them in the locker room about resulted in their typical selves returning to the court.
What are you takeaways?

Shitpost I cant believe I cheered and clapped for an offensive rebound.
The amount of joy I got from that was equivalent to when you first try a fry in a milkshake. It was beautiful.

Post Game Thread Dumb Question
I live in San Antonio and I have DirecTV. I set it to record Spurs. Last year it would record FanDuel when there was a game. I didnāt sign up for DAZN but last night but it recorded the game. The only channel info said āSpursā. What channel was it on last night?
GSG Bill

Discussion DAZN
Unspeakable greed. I cannot believe the Spurs would entertain something like this.

Shitpost Making the Finals was the worst thing to happen to this fanbase
Based on the posts this sub has been getting in the past week, I truly believe making the Finals (and losing) ahead of schedule has been the absolutely worst thing. You āfansā are so obnoxious and annoying. Overreacting to EVERYTHING. Yeah, expectations are higher now. But itās been TWO games. They werenāt going to go 82-0, they werenāt going to be the greatest team of all time and get 74 wins.
You all witnessed how they failed in the Finals. And suddenly you think 3.5 months of offseason is suddenly going to make them bulletproof and unbeatable?
Fucking relax.

Article Reminder that after a 6-8 start to the season, Pop was one loss from getting fired in 1999 (with Doc Rivers replacing him)
Seeing a lot of frustration with Mitch. I get it, but hereās a history lesson for those that didnāt remember that Pop was not always Pop
In the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season, the Spurs started 6-8. The heat got intense. Doc Rivers (the Spurs color commentator) was the name everyone kept bringing up as a potential replacement. Multiple players from that team have confirmed the tension was real:
⢠Malik Rose: āIf we lost that game, they were going to fire Pop and bring in Doc⦠that was the rumor. I would have to say it was real because of the gravity in the locker room. Iāll never forget it.ā
⢠Avery Johnson: āThere was a lot of noise about Pop being potentially replaced by Doc⦠Things had been communicated to us. It was really real.ā
The make-or-break game was March 2, 1999 in Houston. Avery and David Robinson even went to Popās house beforehand. The Spurs won 99-82, then ripped off a 31-5 finish the rest of the way, went 15-2 in the playoffs, and won the first title.
Steve Kerr later said something that still hits: āPop wasnāt Pop yet. He didnāt have a name. The fans still didnāta really know who he was.ā
Even the greatest coach in Spurs history looked very mortal after a slow start in year three. Two games into a new season (with a young core still figuring things out) is nowhere near the point of pressing the panic button.

Fluff Old heads know what we often suck at the beginning of the season
I remembered that some of our best seasons we started off really bad, so I looked it up.
In 03-04 we started off 9-10, ended 57-25
In 08-09 we started off 0-3 and ended 54-28
In 11-12 we started 12-9 and tied for the best record in the league at 50-16
Our org pioneered load management and we have always tended to gel around the time of the rodeo road trip. Early season is the time to fuck around and figure out what works.
