SailorSim: a free sailing simulator, now available on Windows and coming to Steam and Android

Post image
0 Upvotes

I learned to sail as a child on the Mediterranean coast. Many years later, after retiring, I started creating a sail and motor boating simulator. That is how SailorSim was born.

I’m a hobbyist and I develop the game on my own, in my free time. I have used AI to help with the programming code. The boat, the sea, the sails and the scenery are drawn by code inside the game.

It is a personal project, free and non-commercial, which I share for the pleasure of creating something related to sailing.

SailorSim lets you sail, handle the engine and the sails, manoeuvre in and out of harbour and complete navigation missions. It includes in-game instructions and an assisted mode for people who have never sailed before.

The first version came out for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is now also available on Windows, and I’m preparing its release on Steam.

I Wish More Game Devs Made Modular Downloads For Their Game Files.

I saw the Stalker movie and I played the stalker games after getting them on GOG but ever since STALKER 2 released, I have been putting off playing it and after seeing the massive file size, despite the killer sale for this game, I couldn't get myself to buy it because of not having enough space. I wish more devs made higher resolution textures and other audio and subtitle files optional. I have a decade old pc and just enough space to download 2 or 3 games (I mostly play like one game and only move onto the other after finishing it). I have never touched any resolution over 1080p or even tried games with other audio languages. I bet the sizes of the games would be reduced by 50% if game devs offered modular downloads. Like the most recent game with a whooping 145 space requirement is PB0 and I bet if we could remove the textures above 1080p and audio files of other languages then it would be like 70-80 gigs at max.

Thrive 1.7.0 is out now! A new major update for the free, open-source evolution game

Thrive 1.7.0 is here!

Thrive is a free, open-source evolution game where you guide life from single cells toward increasingly complex organisms.

This update brings a major set of improvements to the Multicellular Stage, including:

  • Precise Cell Layout: Manually adjust your organism's cell layout instead of relying entirely on automatic placement.
  • 9 New Achievements: Take on new challenges, from building specialized colonies to reaching the Macroscopic Stage.
  • More Meaningful Evolution: Meet new requirements involving cell specialization, adjacency bonuses, and reproduction to advance to the next stage.
  • Changing Environments: Enable an option that refreshes the environment whenever you leave the editor.
  • Macroscopic Stage Preparations: New prototype features include a metaball rotation tool and creature skin textures.
  • Performance Improvements and Bug Fixes: Numerous optimizations and fixes across the game.

The update also introduces new tutorials for the Multicellular Stage and allows AI-controlled species to evolve into multicellular organisms on their own.

Thrive is still actively developed, with work continuing toward completing the Multicellular Stage and moving on to the Macroscopic Stage.

Don't forget to support the developers if you enjoy the game!

If you encounter issues, I advise downgrading to 26.9.1.

What mouse button bindings do you swear by?

Post image

I've been using a Logitech G502 for years and even though I'm very used to my button binds I'm always curious what other people use. Feel free to put your bindings below!

My current setup is pictured, but also listed below because they're missing a couple:

Thumb/side button: Enter (this is the biggest mouse button benefit I can think of, so convenient)

Thumb up/down buttons: Forward/Backwards page (useful for web browsing)

Clicks are unchanged (Lclick Rclick Mclick)

Mouse wheel left/right: Sensitivity down/up (niche, but sometimes useful for sniping in games and I don't see another use for that spot)

Top side button: (un)minimize all windows (good for selecting things from my desktop)

Other top side button: task manager (easy shortcut)

Under-scroll button: rotating array of macros, mainly holding or spamming left click for idle games
