Build Help / Purchase Advice Never buy a LG monitor

Post image
2.3k Upvotes

For whatever reason these past few months I keep getting this pop up from my computer and every windows update it appears again and I have to uninstall it and repeat. I know this picture is from July but is the only picture I have of the LG popup I have and I got it this past week.

If your planning to get a LG monitor or monitor in general. Avoid LG and look at different brands they add bloatware into your pc.

Edit: Thanks for helping to fix this comments y'all are the goat. for people wondering how I was still getting it is because I never actually uninstalled it. windows just added it back in because I think windows thought it was was apart of the os.

Should you still by LG products? NO! they are a scummy corporation and avoid them at all costs. they spy on you and add bloatware into products.

also linux users quit saying switch to windows I can't okay? also I am trying to dual boot in the future.

Build Help / Purchase Advice I will never buy any RAM other than Gskill for as long as I live. RMA for the RAM

Sept 1 one of my sticks of RAM died, I tested it alone, tested the other one (it worked fine alone) tested it in another PC and still no luck. I don’t need 64 so I just played with 32 for a bit…
Sept 8th I look up their RMA process and it’s a lifetime warranty. I bought this open box in May 2025 from eBay for a whopping $150.
I filled out the RMA paperwork and get an email back with a shipping address and steps to take to send it in.
I cross my fingers and pack it up. I shipped it out on Sept 15th and just got brand new package today in the mail. Customer for life.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Any TV's which aren't a privacy nightmare?

As black friday approaches I want a nice oled TV which isn't secretly listening to me like Samsung or LG. It doesn't even have to have good privacy just not comically evil like seemingly half the industry. A compromised smart tv mode is acceptable as long as it provides a private experience hooked up to a computer. They can even sell my email as a little treat for not secretly taking screenshots every second.

Build Help / Purchase Advice About to use this SSD and put it in a heatsink w/ thermal pads. Should I remove the sticker/label or leave those intact?

Update: Thank you so much everyone! I've just successfully cloned my old SSD to this new one. Yay for more games woohoo~*

Good noon guys! I'm about to clone my current SSD to a bigger one, this being a Samsung 9100 Pro 2TB. I'm gonna be using a third party heatsink which already has thermal pads I can use of.

My question is should I rip the sticker/label on the SSD or just leave it intact and let both sides be sticked with the thermal pads? It's my first time doing this and I wanted to make sure all is okay.

Thank you so much and also, excuse my grubby hands :3

Build Help / Purchase Advice Gift Ideas for Husbands 30th Birthday- PC

Post image

My husband is turning 30, and I need gift ideas! He never asks for anything, and I’ve gotten him Steam gift cards for every occasion. He loves gaming, especially Cyberpunk, Remnant, Bloodborne, Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, Borderlands 2, Helldivers, and Dark Souls.

I’m already getting him 2TB of additional storage and considering a second monitor or new desk. I’ve seen the IKEA desk setups, but we don’t live near one. All he wants to do for his birthday is game, and he prefers keeping things private, so I plan to surprise him with balloons, gaming gifts, and all his favorite meals.

What gaming gifts or setup upgrades would you recommend? I’ll include a picture of his current setup.

I’m buying a new desk! Any recommendations?

Build Help / Purchase Advice RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 TI?

Im looking for a gpu but i dont know which one to choose, I looked it in buildcores with all the components of my PC and the benchmark says that the best is the rx 9070 xt. Im looking for a gpu that still working great for 5-8 years, but i dont know which one to use, I know that the 9070 have better performance to get FPS and the 5070 TI have better graphics (visuals yk ray tracing, now the dlss5...) and great technology for optimization to get more FPS, so the problem is that in my country the 9070 cost 900 euros and the 5070 TI cost 1350 euros, so which one should I buy? the 9070 that for its own have good performance or the 5070 TI that have better graphics and nice technology for optimization, considering that im going to have it for 5-8 years, which one is better?

Build Help / Purchase Advice PlayStation or Xbox Controller?

I’m looking to buy a new controller for my PC and can’t decide between an official Xbox or PlayStation one. I’ve heard both suffer from stick drift, so I want to make sure I’m making a good investment—especially since my old Fantech WGP13 Shooter II lasted almost 3 years before developing drift. Any suggestions or clarification on the stick drift issue?

Build Help / Purchase Advice Deciding between an RTX 4080 Super and a 9070XT

It's as the title suggests. I recently sold my 3090FE becacause its a bit overkill when it comes to straight gaming. I am now looking to put something in my PC.

Some context: my build is a little over 4 year old and I was hoping to rebuild around the 4 year mark but obviously its not possible to build from scratch right now. I believe the rest of the components still work relatively well.

I wanted to do some 4k gaming but I don't think either of these options will let me do so at over 150 frames which I would want so I am also happy to stick to 1440.

Happy to take any advice and recommendation related to the PC

Parts:

RAM: 32GB DDR 4

CPU:12900k + noctua nh-d15

PSU: 1000W gold

Memory: 1TB NVme (980)

Options:

  • A used 4080Super for $775 (bought by a friend in 8/24)
  • A new 9070XT: The option I originally was going for so I got the Saphire nitro plus for $860

I was thinking if I go with the 9070XT I would just try to stick it out for the next 4 years but the price difference for the 4080 doesn't really allow me to upgrade any earlier either so...

Build Help / Purchase Advice Logi MX3 alternatives?

Post image
103 Upvotes

I've been using the MX3 for 5 years or so. Bought a second one when the left button started to fail. I really like them, both the side scroll wheel and the quick action buttons. Stupid long battery. And it's big and heavy which helps with my skeleton hands.

However both developed the same problems. The left click is starting to fail in the "new" one (It's 2 years old already), but getting that hole made me question buying a third one.

Both have the same degradation due to the way I hold the mouse, which I have no problem with. But a hole? It broke under pressure and my nails never got that far back.

Maybe any of you guys are using anything similar I can try as a replacement?

All the things this mouse have really had me covered for years and Id buy a new one or the MX4 just not to check one more gaming mouse.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Gaming - Did you upgrade from 1440p to 4K?

It's time for a new monitor and I'm stuck between getting another 1440p or upgrading to 4k, but worried about the performance loss in gaming.

Most games I play don't push my hardware much, but the real pretty games (Silent Hill2 for example) still struggle to get a comfortable frame rate with all the fancy settings enabled.

Obviously if all settings are the same 4k will be a lot harder to run, but can you drop settings (like anti-aliasing) to achieve the same frame rate at a similar visual fidelity? Or is it just a choice between resolution and frame rate?

Hello, I recently joined the world of PC about a year ago thanks to a very generous gift from a good friend of mine. I know almost next to nothing about PC's and wanted to know what the thoughts are about these specs from a bench mark I ran through Cyberpunk2077. Thanks to any and all opinions.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Can you guys suggest a way to solve this cable management for less than 20$?

Thumbnail

I have an extension of 4 but I'll get one for 5 for the occasional charger of phone laptop ECT.

Anyway it looks like a mess but I don't know what to do, I tried to attach the strip with double sided tape to the bottom of the adjustable table but it doesn't hold, I think it's too heavy (also I don't want something that will ruin the bottom of the table like some nasty glue residue or drilling holes).

I can't move it much since when I use the table standing both the printer cable and the table cable are at their max length and can't move it.

I also want to keep this solution to a small amount of money.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Considering the RTX 5070 over the RX 9070 XT!

Am I dumb for considering an rtx 5070 over a 9070 XT if both are $1250 Australian dollars, because I like NVIDIAs features?

The 9070xt is a triple fan xtx model

The 5070 model is a Palit model, and is the cheapest new rtx 5070 for me.

I have a very specific set of games I play:

WoW, ffxiv, Warframe, old school Runescape (runelite), Minecraft with shaders + mods, overwatch.

Don't play any AAA singleplayer games. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 looks good though.

I'm genuinely considering the 5070 just because I've gotten into ffxiv lately, and you can use dlss and dlaa with ffxiv and it fixes the shimmery grass and looks amazing compared to FSR.

Also NVIDIA filters so I add make wow and ffxiv sharper and replace reshade in ffxiv. Also NVIDIA heavily outperforms AMD in FFXIV for some reason. Like I'm pretty sure I saw a 5070 beating a 9070 XT in benchmarks? For ffxiv?

I currently have a 9060 XT 16GB, 5700x3d and 32 GB 3600mhz ram. 1440p 200hz display. 750w corsair PSU gold rated.

But are those two features enough to justify the price gap? I know the 5070 is a weaker card than the 9070 XT, but I don't play AAA games or new realeases either.

Right now I have a 3050 and for a 5070 I would have to buy a new PSU. The monitor i have right now has a 1080p resolution, but i could also buy a higher resolution one.

Build Help / Purchase Advice From 5060 to 5070 or 9070XT?

I have a RTX 5060 and i will have a opportunity to upgrade it, and having a Nvidia, with everything working great, many games running great with DLSS at 1440p (Forza Horizon 5, for example, Ultra + RT @ 80FPS), looking at a RTX 5070 would be "the perfect upgrade" because 12GB vRAM would be great to improve in games AND i will have 50-60% more raw power. And with PCI-E 4.0 16x i will double the bandwidth if going out of vRAM.

But looking at prices right now:

- RTX 5060: $ 443,00
- RTX 5070: $ 835,00
- RX 9070XT: $ 799,00

The 9070XT is cheaper than the 5070, and have 20-30% more raw power. BUT doesn't have Nvidia technologies, and the market seems to be that Nvidia is at the front, with DLSS5 and new features, so seems that RTX 5000 could aging better than RX 9000.

Thinking of "futureproof" with that chaos on hardware, grabbing 5070 to improve everything i already have on my 5060, or go all in for "just 20% more raw power"?

I'm feeling very hopeless with prices for 2027 or 2028. Even with new gen consoles. So i'm thinking on "buy and hold".

Build Help / Purchase Advice Corsair 4000D vs Fractal Design North XL

Post image
11 Upvotes

EDIT - Fractal Design North XL with mesh panel is on order. It came with 3x140mm front fans, and I bought an extra 140mm for the rear. It was 17% off and 3 left, so put it on order.

I have a PC I built just over a year ago using a be quiet! Pure Base 500DX case. It’s not a bad case, but cable management was pretty tight, and there are some wires bent at some pretty sharp angles that I’m not a fan of. The RGB novelty also wore off pretty quickly, despite how little RGB there actually is. 😄

Originally, I wanted the Fractal Design North with the wood front, but it was out of my budget. Luckily, I built my system before RAM prices jumped up, otherwise I probably would have been building it in a cardboard box.

The Corsair 4000D now has a wood option, which caught my attention. My only concern is that the power button is at the bottom, and I keep my case on the floor. I’m also a little annoyed that these cases have been out for a while, but the modular options don’t seem to be available. The website just shows everything as sold out, so that’s not exactly much of a selling feature.

With both cases, I’d also prefer a mesh side panel. Fractal Design seems to have that option, but with Corsair, it doesn’t appear to be available, or is just sold out.

Anyway, I thought I’d ask here if anyone has experience with either of these cases and how they were for installing components.

Again, the be quiet! case looks good, but there are a few spots that are overly tight. There just isn’t enough room in some areas because of the metal pieces that are bent over the ports to help hide the cables. I’d like to avoid that kind of thing with my next case.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Financing a PC as a teen, the right move or no?

So here’s the situation. I’m 16, working part-time at a grocery store, pulling like 10 hours a week. (2 five hour shifts) My current laptop (RTX 3050) is basically fried and can't handle anything I throw at it anymore. I've had it for almost 4 years now.

I’ve been eyeing a high-end prebuilt with an RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. After Canadian taxes, we’re looking at around $4,500 to $5,000 CAD. I know that sounds insane for a 16-year-old, but hear me out on the game plan before you roast me.

I’m not just buying this to play Fortnite. I actually used to make/help make Batman: Arkham mods- my biggest one hit over 60k downloads. But honestly, I’m burnt out. I want to shift gears into making YouTube content: Spider-Man stuff, lists, lore videos, and fanfiction discussions. I already run a Discord server with about 400 people, so I have a bit of a built-in audience to start with.

Here is how I plan to actually pay for it without screwing my parents over (since I'm under 18 and can't get a loan by myself):

  1. I'm grinding my shifts out for the next 3 months to save $2,000 cash first. I’m not buying it until I have that chunk saved.
  2. My parents would help back the remaining ~ $2,500 to $3,000 on a 12-month payment plan (trying to find a 0% interest promo if possible).
  3. The monthly payment would come out to around $210. I make about $732 a month at the grocery store, so it takes up less than a third of my check. I'd set up an auto e-transfer so it's impossible for me to miss it.

Be 100% real with me. Is dropping $5,000 (CAD) on a top-tier 5080 build a massive mistake at my age, or does it make sense if I'm genuinely trying to use it as a workstation to launch a channel?

Update: DEFINITELY won't be financing it anymore. Stuck on whether to wait and save to buy the beast of a PC myself or go and get a 5070/ti build.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Alright, what motherboards are yall using for your 9800X3D and why should I consider buying that model?

Just got my RMA'd 9800X3D back. After learning a little bit more about what may contribute to 9800X3D's dying (I guess the I/O die has smaller electrical margins, making even small voltage instability in the board degrade it over time; I'm simplyfing the explanation I was given by a lot here) I've decided I wanted to get a new motherboard instead of RMA-ing the X870 Riptide it originally died on.

Problem is, I was recommended to look for boards with native 1DPC but all of them appear to be outside of my budget in the $4-500 range.

So I've been looking around at cheaper boards, but don't know enough about power delivery systems and such to make an informed decision on what to buy as of yet.

Here's my PC Specs at the moment:

- Ryzen 7 9800X3D (obviously)

- RTX 4070 Ventus 3x

- Corsair Vengeance CL30 DDR5-6000mhz (EXPO)

- Corsair Gold 1000m PSU

So, what boards are you all using? What would you recommend for someone looking for the cleanest power delivery between components? If you've had a 9800X3D on your board for the last 2 years, especially, with no issues whatsoever, what board do you have, why'd you pick it, etc etc.
