Discussion Antis destroyed all my artwork in my multiplayer painting game

Anti-fans have banded together and painted over all my artwork in my Roblox painting game...

artwork that I painstakingly created with my own damn hands!

How twisted do you have to be to destroy, in the name of “preserving human creativity,” the very thing you’re supposed to be protecting?

Can someone explain this logic to me?

Discussion "bad ai videos" nowadays are just cheap ai videos

came across this video on pixai. i can't imagine how much generation credits went into making something like this, so that all the details stay consistent. i see a lot of examples of what people say are bad AI videos, or low effort videos that aid their anti ai arguments are just cheap ai videos made with a lower budget, either on a cheaper model, a lower resolution, or less generation tries. The quality of some of the high budget content is amazing. The quality of ai content has come down to a battle of tokens and labor.

i was at an ai film festival recently, and most of the creators couldn't come in person, so they submitted ai generated video speeches. their films are amazing, but their acceptance speech videos are really low quality. you can see details breaking and glitching, the image quality is much worse, and the characters are stiff. the reason for that is that it saves cost.

Discussion As an educator, I’m devastated by what calculators are doing to my students

• Upvotes

I’ve been teaching math for 69 years, and I’ve never felt this hopeless about the future of my profession.

Something happened yesterday that I can’t stop thinking about. I gave my class a warm-up problem, 847 × 36, and one of my students had the answer in about three seconds. For a second, I thought I was finally getting through to him. Then I asked him to show his work. He didn’t say anything. He just slowly turned his phone around, and there it was: the calculator app, with “30492” still glowing on the screen. I felt my stomach drop.

I don’t know how to explain to him that what he did isn’t math. He pressed some buttons and a machine gave him a number. He didn’t carry anything or line up any columns. When I told him he won’t always have a calculator in his pocket, he looked at me like I was the crazy one.

What really gets me is that nobody wants to talk about is where these things got their math. They stole it. Every calculator runs on centuries of work by real mathematicians, people who poured their whole lives into it. Then some company scraped all of it, crammed it into a $12 piece of plastic, and started selling it. Nobody asked them, and nobody paid them. That’s theft.

And they aren’t even reliable. Type 0.1 + 0.2 into a computer sometime and you get 0.30000000000000004. And people want this thing doing their taxes?

I also think about the people this replaced. NASA used to have whole rooms of human “computers,” mostly women, doing real calculations by hand. Those jobs are gone, and now people act like that’s progress.

The worst part is that I can always tell. Calculator work has no soul. My students’ homework used to have personality: eraser smudges, crossed-out digits, a 7 that looked suspiciously like a 1. You could see a person thinking on the page. Now everything comes back clean and correct, and it makes me want to cry.

I’m not anti-technology. I’m just scared. I’m scared that in ten years nobody will know their times tables, every bridge will be designed by “button-pushers,” and I’ll be the last person on earth who can carry a one. Maybe that’s dramatic. Or maybe I’m the only one paying attention.

TLDR: If it didn’t take suffering, it’s not math

Discussion Anyone else simply not seeing any reason to use AI?

I really don’t enjoy the AI slop or bots in every social media app, so I’m anti- inasmuch as I just don’t want that crap on my feed anymore. But my personal lack of use of AI doesn’t have anything to do with that. I see AI and wonder what I would even use it for. Mostly it just gets in the way of my google searches.

I guess it’s in large part because I am not in an industry which requires me to use computers at all. So I can’t use it for my job. I’m not in school anymore so I don’t have any reason to try using it as a study tool. When I make art, it’s because I enjoy the process and I don’t really care about what the final product is, and generally don’t intend to share my art with others, it’s a private thing I do just for myself. And if I want to talk to someone, I can talk to a human being at pretty much any time I want.

So I am just not seeing any reason to use AI personally. There’s really nothing at all that AI seems to offer me. Anyone else struggling to see any personal value in this supposedly revolutionary technology? What do you even use this for?

Look, pro’s, I’d be happy to see some value here so that I get something out of this other than seeing low quality memes and ragebait bots.

News AI Film Flops at Box Office: Why?

https://foro3d.com/en/2026/octubre/sanxingdui-future-past-el-primer-largo-chino-de-ia-pincha-en-taquilla.html

Sanxingdui: Future Past, a film made predominantly with AI, went to Chinese theaters this last weekend. The film cost $1.5 million to produce and brought home only around $100k.

I don't have all the numbers for this weekend, but for perspective, last weekend Avengers: Endgame made $275k as a re-release.

Why do you think the film did so poorly? What will producers and investors take from this news?

Discussion Is effort always required for art to have value?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Over time, I've seen many people argue about whether effort is necessary for art to have value. I've come across arguments both for and against the idea, and it's something I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about. When it comes to AI art, or really any AI-assisted creation, one of the most common criticisms I see is something along the lines of, "This required no work or effort, therefore it's bad."

Personally, I don't believe effort is always necessary for art to have value. Effort can absolutely add value to something, but I don't think it's an essential requirement. I can appreciate and find value in something that took little to no effort to create, just as I can dislike something that someone poured countless hours of work into. As such, in my opinion, the amount of effort put into creating something doesn't automatically determine its artistic value.

Do you believe effort is required for art to have value? Why or why not? And where do you think AI fits into this discussion?

A video describing a certain breed of "artist" and anti. (Antis may wanna skip this one).

I don't post here because antis aren't really worth arguing with, but I came across this video a couple days ago which succinctly explained certain type of online denizen whose numbers have been steadily increasing these past few years.

Note: I don't know who the person who made the video is, or who it was meant for. It was a repost.

Regarding the content itself, while I find the wording of art and artists as parasitic quite harsh, it serves the point in the context of describing the type of "artist" who approaches it as a noble pursuit that entitles them to universal empathy and respect just by "virtue" of identifying themselves as such. It's childish, and internet spaces have not helped by worshipping mediocrity. Praising any scribble as "better than AI" isn't helpful either, This performative patting hurts everyone in the long run. Even moreso for those who frame disagreement with this as a moral failing.

By the way, tangentially related: if the most meaningful comment you can give a piece is "at least it's not AI" or "thank you for not using AI", then you're either not engaging with it (be whether because you don't actually care or the work is that devoid of merit) or you allowed your dogmatic worship of the work's provenance override anything you can actually enjoy about it. Put short, is the equivalent of going "well he has a nice personality".

Really, the first minute of the video describes these kind of "artists" best. A petulant individual who approaches art as both a craft and a deeper genius that they believe (regardless of if they admit it or not) elevates them over others. It is the same kind of attitude that leads to behaviors such as not respecting clients in commission work or supporting/leaeding attacks on others over disagreements.

Anyway, this isn't meant for antis since they lack the qualities required for this kind of assesment. I can already see them wittingly missing the forest for the trees by engaging with the person's wording rather than the overall point.

It is meant for those who have noticed this pattern of behavior and never put it into words. I also invite pros who engage in "AI art" to also give a hard look in the mirror, especially those who like to claim they are artists.

"When you make art, you're giving birth in Sparta, okay? And it is up to everyone else whether or not they throw that shit off the cliff."

If AI can truly replace someone in the workplace for lower price, how could it not be useful to the average Joe?

An AI capable of replacing a lawyer allows an average person to obtain legal advice at a lower cost. An AI that can perform financial analysis could be even more useful for someone looking to make investments, for instance, for retirement savings, since such investments require financial analysis. While small investments yield smaller returns, they still generate some income, or at the very least, offer a way to protect funds against inflation.

Discussion People who say "AI Art is soulless" are the ones sucking the soul out of art

As soon as y'all realise it's made by AI, y'all get triggered and decide it's "soulless slop" and then you spread that hate and belief onto others. Let's say you dislike an art piece because it's AI, then you see someone else say it looks good and they like it. Y'all will insult them and make fun of them for liking something you don't like

You're not seeing soulless art, you are making yourself and others believe it is soulless. It has soul until you realize there was AI used. It's okay if you have a flawed mentality but don't hate on others for it

Antis hate AI because they want to keep discriminating lower class people

• Upvotes

Antis dont want mass AI adoption because apparently they "care" about jobs. But truth is, jobs have failed us massively in late-stage capitalism like today, where people who work 60-80 hours a week still massively make much less money than the likes of rich entrepeneurs and investors who actually dont work as much. As Chamath himself has said, modern world rewards capital much more than efforts.

So i dont really understand why antis want to keep this status quo going, do you really think it's fair to see rich old bald men that do nothing but party and do insider trading make much more money than actual engineers? That makes no sense.

The only reason why you want to keep this broken system going is because you completely ignore how the wealthy class makes their money in the first place. For you, the middle class dudes, as long as you can have more privileges than the lower class, it's still a win for you. You dont want everybody to win, you want to look down on people who have lower luck than yourself, because deep inside, you want to feel important.

Discussion AI art is real art, but...

AI art is a form of art. Much like photography (I know, tired comparison), most people agree that good photographs are a valid form of artistic expression. They're also not directly comparable to other forms of art, such as paint, digital art, sculpting, video production, and whatnot. They sit in their own class, and are only directly comparable among one another.

AI art is the same; it's art, but not the same kind of art as other art styles. One can observe the objective quality of a piece of AI art, and judge it relative to other pieces. But one can't compare AI art directly with other art forms, in the same way you can't really judge whether a photograph is "better" than a very detailed landscape painting. They're different mediums, worthy of different qualities of judgement.

China had an AI bubble burst that made 1.3 trillion (480B USD I believe) be erased from their stock market

Hugs kisses for many on that side of the pond, and they are far more positive on AI

So how does this sub feel about this, there's always talk of the AI bubble popping but now one has, not all of it but a big part, how do y'all feel?
