Guide Start here if you're looking for tutorials on everything volleyball. This is the most informative volleyball YouTube channel that I've seen. Definitely the best place to learn volleyball if you are just starting out and don't have a coach.

Question How badly does playing with a complete beginner ruin games for people
I’ve never played volleyball or any real sports a day in my life, and I’m not athletic or coordinated at all. Recently my coworker friend convinced me to join them for volleyball this week and told me that beginners are welcome- it originally was mostly people that played regularly and a couple of beginners like me, but then the other beginners (who were also the only other girls) had to cancel and now everybody remaining are these athletic guys who play very regularly. This situation terrifies me for many reasons outside of just embarrassing myself as I never put myself out there like this, but I also worry about being annoying for them to deal with if I can’t serve or return the ball at all.
Being brutally honest, is it etiquette to just also cancel for now and join them when there’s more beginners? I really feel like I would negatively impact their experience 😅

Form Check One year in, tips for not sucking at hitting?
I already am hitting the gym and following the THP Strength programs/ideas to work on vertical jump. I've gone from 15" to 24" in the last year on my vert. Hoping to hit 30 in the next 6 months since I'm ramping up my consistency on that training. I know that will help a lot since I'm only 5'8".
Past that, I haven't gotten to actually practice much. Mostly just go to open play which is hard to get consistent reps. I only have 2 more weeks of these practices in the video and then I lose my court rental for the indoor season. Back to just weekly Sunday intermediate league game and Friday open play.
What stands out the most from my hitting sucking? Last 2 steps could definitely be faster to get more vert. I do notice a lot of times I'm hitting the ball above me/behind me. So I'm not keeping the ball in front of me properly. Some of these FELT really solid and then I blast it into the net though. Is my timing off or am I just genuinely hitting it too low on those? I just have to hit a little higher?
Hit me with the critiques relating to anything involving my approach or hitting.

Question Advice
I’m a 16 year old boy, currently in my junior year of highschool and I’ve always wanted to play volleyball but never actually took the steps to learning how. Is it too late to start now? And if not does anyone know any rec teams that take in beginners. For the record I’m kinda short (5’6) but i can jump pretty high if that makes a big difference, and despite my height i wanna play generally any position in the front.

Am I being optimal in my training?
I’m a middle trying to train my vert. I train with my team 2 times a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, typically with a league game on Sunday. I’m recovering from patellar tendinitis so I’m currently avoiding plyos to try recover, playing volleyball 3 times a week is enough jump training in my opinion also. I have no time to go to a gym but I work at a metal factory so when I work overtime, I try to lift heavy compounds such as squats and deadlifts. I do this on Thursday as I think it’s the best day for me to tire my legs so I’m fresh for the weekend. Let me know what you guys think.

Looking for plyo or other training for my son
Hi all, my son is a setter-oppo and is looking for plyo training, either 1:1 or small group. He thrives on challenge and is very coachable. We live iLong Beach, CA, so looking for something in or near the area.
I know he can do this on his own and watch YT videos and all that but he’s looking for a structured and scheduled approach with an actual trainer. Thanks!

Volleyball Workout Routine
Hello!
I'm completely out of shape and am getting into volleyball. I was wondering if anyone had a workout routine to do for getting in shape, specifically geared to volleyball. If I get skilled enough to do positions, my hope is to be a libero. So I want both workout exercises as well as volleyball practices.
I have dumbbells, a barbell, and a smith machine with pulleys. Then for volleyball I have a regular net, a practice net (collects the balls), and a spike ball holder.
Thank you!

Training for a large group
Hello people,
I just took a position as a coach for a university-technique-course. I love teaching and working with passionate people, but I didn't know that the groups would be 18-25 people.
The level of the participants is more or less intermediate. They all know the rules and can play 6v6, but need practice in every way.
We only have one net and 90 minutes, do you have any specific drills or practice settings you can recommend for large groups?

tip/advice on how to relearn approach
i’ve played volleyball for about 2-3 years now? i have a decent vertical (i can grip basketball rim at 5’10) but it doesn’t translate well with my approach. i noticed that when i approach i have too much forward momentum and i launch more forward than upward.
i want to relearn my approach and esp get my blocking foot down so all of the foward momentum goes upward. any tips on relearning something like this? my only thoughts on this would just be endless repetition and not mindlessly approaching/swinging in open gyms.
