WatchOS De-evolving with Siri… wow

An all-intelligence Siri (WatchOS 27) should be able to open the heart rate app for me. At least… WatchOS 26 was able to for me.

I’m confused why this very simple Apple Watch Siri prompt would be problematic.

Very strange

WatchOS This is my favorite change in watchOS 27

Post image

After updating to watchOS 27 beta, pressing the crown no longer defaults to the all-apps screen. Instead, it first shows this frequently used interface. Only after tapping the "All Apps" button at the bottom will the previous all-apps screen be displayed. Frequently used apps can be opened directly, and the buttons are large, making operation very convenient.

The only drawback is that the positions of these apps are not fixed; they change dynamically based on the most recently used apps. I would prefer to be able to pin a few of my frequently used apps here, similar to the Dock on the watch.

WatchOS The Stand Ring is useless. Replace with a step-counter ring.

1.8k Upvotes

The stand ring is a waste of time and altogether doesn't actually do anything except tell you 'congrats, you stood up one time in the last hour'.

Replacing it with a step-counter ring is a million times more effective and will genuinely promote people to be more active. Standing up is one thing, but moving your body is another. Why not give people a visual to help show them where they're at?

Setting to 5k steps, 10k, or maybe 20k if you're moving a shit ton, is such a better use of the ring function.

Edit: No, standing isn't useless and is in fact good for you. My whole point is that it would be more effective if this ring could be changed to something that didn't just count how many times I stood up today.

Edit 2: Appreciate all of the discourse here and love hearing everyone's take! I'm glad to see some people don't agree with me and I see those POVs. Keep em coming.

Edit 3: Man this has blown up. Appreciate everyone contributing.

Edit 4: Never thought I'd make a 4th edit. I find it funny that people are downvoting me in these comments just because I'm providing insight into my personal opinions on the stand ring. Maybe, because other people are too stationary during their daily lives they find this useful, but I personally am active, use a standing desk, take stroll breaks, and do what I can to not be on my ass. Different strokes for different folks.

WatchOS Tip: Adding specific workouts to the control center gives it action button-like behavior

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

Wanted to share this setup I find super useful. I added workout shortcuts to my control center. This makes it so I can start a workout just by pressing the side button and tapping it. So much faster than the workout app, especially if you normally get to it from the Home Screen. Not quite as instantaneous as the Apple Watch Ultra action button, but similar in behavior and speed!

Also quick access to Shazam :)

WatchOS Handwashing Timer is Gone

I picked up my Apple Watch Ultra 4 this weekend and I was surprised that Apple has removed the handwashing feature from the Series 12 and the Ultra 4. It’s still available on every other watch that runs the current WatchOS, but not the two newest. I’m sure it wasn’t the most popular feature, but I used it all day long and it was such a nice quality of life feature. I sent feedback through the portal to Apple. If you want to as well, I attached the link to this post. Here’s to hoping they bring it back.

WatchOS Apple Watch S12 readiness score during sickness is super accurate

Post image
606 Upvotes

The readiness score on my Apple Watch Series 12 became available exactly when I started feeling a little sick (slightly elevated temperature, a cold and a mild sore throat).

It told me “pace yourself”, and it picked up several changes in my vitals: less sleep, a resting heart rate higher than usual, more breaths per minute, and a wrist temperature 0.35°C above normal. The next day, even after getting enough sleep, my wrist temperature was 0.67°C higher than normal with a even higher resting heart rate and more breaths per minute.

Today, it gave me a readiness score of 2 and again told me “pace yourself” and to see how I feel before pushing myself with a workout. Pretty cool! It gives me a much better idea of how my body is doing. I actually feel pretty good today, even though my wrist temperature is at its highest, so I’ll probably do a light workout rather than push myself hard.

(The photo that I took has the text edited by AI to display the English text instead of my own language).

WatchOS Love this new Watch OS 27 watch face.

It dynamically gives me suggestions based on the activity or the time of the day.

Shows live activities for booking an Uber, estimates for ordering food, showing tickets from the wallet everything… I find this feature quite handy.

This is going to be my default watch face!

EDIT: Really happy to see 100 upvotes☺️! As a quiet introvert who hasn't posted in 4 years, this is super encouraging. Thank you guys!

I wish Apple allowed us to expand the time’s height so it occupied the full screen.

WatchOS The VO2 Max estimate in watchOS 26 is much more accurate

Post image

Recently had my VO2 Max measured properly at 63mL/kg/min on a treadmill with a mask (manually entered value on the left). The Watch had previously underestimated it. After the update, the Watch estimate jumped up a bit, so it's now 0.8mL/kg/min off from the actual value.

WatchOS Siri on watchOS 27 is unusable

I have not had a single request to Siri work on the watch.

Timers don’t work, adding to a list doesn’t work, asking about weather doesn’t work.

It is honestly embarrassing that they released this in its current state.

I have an Ultra 2 and have had watchOS 27 installed since the day it dropped so the indexing excuse won’t wash with me. I have also restarted the device and etc, this isn’t a me problem, it is an Apple problem and it is truly pathetic and they should apologise.

WatchOS The ‘Apple Watch is fully charged’ notification is back!

Post image

I made this reddit post to ask if others had this bug where the Apple Watch isn’t notifying on iPhone when charged to %100. Now it’s finally back in iOS 18.5 and watchOS 11.5 after so long. I do wish it had a sound to listen for the notification from afar, but the fix was more important!
