What do I do if my Republican family asks who I'm voting for?

I'm 19, and this'll be my first time voting. My family is MAGA, and I'm a Liberal Democrat who will be voting as such. They don't know I'm a Liberal or even a Democrat, and I haven't told my family because they absolutely hate liberals. What would they think if they find out I'm everything they hate?

I'm worried my family will ask me who I voted for, because I don't want to lie to them. But I don't wanna tell them I'm voting Democrat, or that it's private and I don't wanna share it, because that might raise suspicion.

I still need a roof over my head, and my family is very VERY conservative. I'm afraid that I might compromise my living situation if they find out who I voted for, since I'm already on thin ice with my dad since I didn't move out as soon as I turned 18.

What could I do if they ask me who I voted for?

Are the “Democrats for Biggs” signs in Arizona deliberately targeting Hispanic and Black neighborhoods?

I’ve been noticing these “Democrats for Biggs” signs popping up around Arizona, and something about their placement has been bothering me.
For anyone unfamiliar, Andy Biggs is a Republican. Yet these signs prominently say “Democrats for Biggs,” including Spanish-language versions.
What’s caught my attention is that I’ve noticed them in predominantly Hispanic and Black neighborhoods.
Here’s my theory, and I’m genuinely curious what others think.
Could this be an attempt to exploit stereotypes about Hispanic and Black voters being less politically informed? Is the campaign banking on people seeing the word “Democrats” next to Biggs’ name and assuming he’s a Democrat, or that Democrats are endorsing him?
I’m not saying that’s definitively what’s happening. But if these signs are disproportionately being placed in communities of color, I think it’s a fair question to ask whether the campaign is deliberately targeting those communities with a potentially confusing message.
There’s a difference between trying to persuade voters with your policies and trying to influence them through misleading political branding.
And if the strategy is based on the assumption that certain communities won’t recognize the difference between a Republican and a Democrat, that’s pretty insulting.

I work in scottsdale and i havent seen one of these signs in and around Scottsdale at all but i have in around the neighborhood i grew up in which is in south phoenix.

A few questions I’d love to hear people’s thoughts on:
Have you noticed these signs in your neighborhood?
Are they appearing disproportionately in Hispanic and Black neighborhoods?
Who is actually funding and organizing this campaign?
Is this just a political persuasion tactic, or could there be something more deliberate behind the placement?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who live in the neighborhoods where these signs are showing up.
Am I reading too much into this, or is this worth investigating?

Playboy Magazine asks: which political candidates do you find most attractive?

Hey there! I'm a reporter writing an article for Playboy about the crop of younger (and more attractive) Democratic candidates this year. Politicians are not usually known for being particularly attractive, but there's a lot of crushing among voters for Sen. Jon Ossoff, Abdul El-Sayed, and more. If you have a lil crush on any candidates this year (of any gender) and want to have a lighthearted (not creepy!) conversation about a politician you support before the midterms, I'd love to chat with you this week.

My email is nataliefertig [at] gmail [dot] com, or you can dm me here and we can set up a time to talk.

Thanks everyone!

Why Gavin Newsom won't run for the election if Harris runs? He's a perfect fit, and Americans have been extremely mysogynist on female leadership in the past.

Why have Democrats failed to point out that republican associated groups have spent perhaps 500 million dollars on trans ads perhaps greater money than the entire budget of women's leagues in the country?

I checked google and could find zero candidates using this campaign message

The best was sherrod brown talking as though this is ridiculous with many other subjects to cover

The hidden subtext for these is to imply Democrats are obsessing with gender despite the fact the party pushing the issue is using framing to regulate gender

The model I developed using several real time data signals has the Dems taking Senate +7 and House +21. Check it out!

Is there any place to discuss strategy with anyone who even has the tiniest influence over campaign strategy in even a small campaign? Because there are so many different issues in which the party seems not to try to use framing to their advantage

How do I donate to campaigns without getting a barrage of text messages afterwards?

A follow up to my post last week, where after a few donations I got hundreds of text messages over several days. Now I am inspired you, Dan Senate candidate in Mississippi ( sort of trumpet effect wherever he goes donations to the Democrat increase.) but I fear donating will result in another barrage of messages begging for more.

Is there a way to donate without this happening?

What Dhould the Democrats Do?

I'm Swedish, but I'm following the US midterm elections with great interest. The outcome matters not only for the United States but for the entire world. I'm concerned about America's slide toward authoritarianism under Trump and MAGA, as well as Trump's reckless foreign policy and other developments.

But what should the Democrats do in the current situation? I've been thinking about a couple of things.

1. What if the Democrats lose the midterms?

The Democrats have put almost all their eggs in one basket: winning the midterms and taking control of both chambers of Congress, or at least the House of Representatives. I follow several left-leaning YouTubers, primarily David Pakman, Brian Tyler Cohen, and Glenn Kirschner, and they also seem completely focused on this goal right now. Polls, early voting figures, and other indicators do suggest that the Democrats could win majorities in both chambers, although the Senate races look close.

But polls have been wrong before, and early voting figures don't tell the whole story. It would therefore be a mistake to take a Democratic victory for granted. We have to be prepared for the possibility that they might lose. Yet I don't get the impression that the Democrats or the left-leaning commentators I follow are preparing for that possibility. That's a problem.

If the Republicans win, it will be more important than ever for the Democrats to get their act together and do everything they can to fight further abuses of power by the Trump administration, the MAGA movement, and the ultrawealthy, and to resist America's slide toward authoritarianism.

There needs to be a plan for this scenario, and it needs to be developed now. But so far, I haven't seen any sign of one.

I'm worried that if the Republicans win, the Democrats and left-leaning commentators will lose momentum and become too demoralized to tackle these vital tasks before it's too late.

That absolutely must not happen!

The Democrats need to develop a contingency plan for this scenario now.

2. What if the Democrats win control of the House?

If the Democrats win control of at least the House, my understanding is that they intend to launch investigations into abuses of power and corruption by the Trump administration, something we've seen plenty of over the past two years. They plan to compel Trump administration officials, and possibly Trump himself, to testify before Congress under oath.

This could certainly produce a great deal of valuable information, even if it's far from certain that anyone will actually be convicted of a crime. Trump can use his veto power, and the Supreme Court has granted him broad immunity from criminal prosecution for certain official acts.

But valuable as these investigations may be, there's a risk that Congress will focus too heavily on them and neglect the work of improving ordinary people's lives.

That means tackling issues such as bringing down the cost of living, fixing the healthcare system, getting rid of Trump's tariffs, ending the war with Iran (which affects fuel prices and much else), finding a humane solution to the problems surrounding immigration, addressing climate change, and much, much more.

Otherwise, there's a risk that voters will think in 2028:

"All the Democrats do is try to go after Republicans and Trump officials, over and over again. But that doesn't put food on my table or give me access to affordable healthcare. Everything has just become even more expensive. I'm voting for the Republican presidential candidate and Republican candidates for Congress this time. Surely things can't get much worse than this."

And then the Republicans could win back Congress, a new Republican president could take office, and America's slide toward authoritarianism could continue.

That must not happen.

Holding the Trump administration accountable is important, but improving the lives of ordinary Americans is at least equally important.

Dems? Do you have a Problem with Socialists?

62% of Dems have a Favorable View of Socialism thanks to groups such as the DSA & key figures such as Zohran Mamdani & AOC, whereas views of Capitalism are Shrinking within the Democratic Party. However, It's important to note that Socialism basically needs context & definition, since younger people usually think that this is a utopia providing free stuff without digging deeper.... Socialism is often described as Workers owning the means of production, with the Government Controlling key industries in order to meet Societal Needs. Democratic Socialism basically means electing Socialists Democratically.

Don't call me Right-wing or Diet-Maga because I dislike Socialism or Calling it out, but what does Socialism leads us to at the end of the day? Shortages, Famines, Private Property Abolished, Individual Incentive eliminated, and Capitalism goes away completely. Make no mistake, the DSA wants to dismantle checks & balances as a system because they believe they eliminate working class power (Remember when you guys hated trump for trying to defy Congress? Yea, good luck with that!) Do you know which countries actually Socialism? Yes, you heard that right, The Soviet Union! even though they were communist nature, they had Socialist in its name and had key systems such as Gulags. other examples include Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea. There's this narrative where Venzuela was once one of the wealthist nations in Latin America, but once they went full Socialist, they're broke!

Is an Independent who hates Trump but refuses to vote in this election because “both parties are equally bad” basically enabling MAGA?

I know someone who says she is “voting her conscience” by not voting for a certain Democratic candidate. No scandals, just doesn’t like his vibe. She thinks not voting, or voting for the Republican is the right thing to do. I’d like to know if you think it is a tacit support of MAGA.

Why should I continue to vote Democrat?

I was raised by far-right parents, but a combination of being a dumb kid too stupid to internalize any of what they were saying, being a closet trans girl, and having a much older leftist brother kept me from ending up like them, and by the time I got to college, I was a leftist voting for Clinton in my first year eligible to vote. Since then, I have consistently voted downballot for Democrats every two years.

I am now questioning why I should bother continuing to do this.

I'm sure many will read the above and say "Because Republicans hate you" and really that's not even fully true. The far-right? Sure. Average conservatives? Not so much.

Meanwhile I've got bones to pick with leftists and liberals alike. Over the last few years, I've woken up to the extremist nature of the far-left and, among plenty of other harm they've caused, I think they're largely responsible for the anti-trans moral panic that's swept the country in the 2020s.

And liberals? They have made it VERY clear to me that "Just win baby" is more important to them than anything else, regardless of who gets thrown under the bus. I could deal with politicians not supporting trans women in women's sports; I don't support that either, even if I don't think there should be laws about it.

But it's just bridge after bridge this election season that candidates keep crossing, and liberals keep defending. Call us slurs? "Just win baby!" Decry "trans ideology in schools"? "Just win baby!" Take a stance against necessary healthcare being covered by insurance? "Just win baby!"

And not one of these people who insist "they're still better than Republicans" ever have a rebuttal when I point out how Labour UK also went down this slippery slope, and is now further right on this issue than MAGA.

So if neither party wants my vote as a trans woman, I should just vote as an upper-middle-class woman who wants lower taxes, a strong border, and safe streets.

This is where I am right now mentally.

Why do you think I should continue voting Democrat?

How do Democrats think about Gavin Newsom using the phrase "fight fire with fire" when suggesting how the Democratic Party should face Donald Trump and the Republican Party?

The phrase "fight fire with fire" is often used when facing international threats, similar to the phrase "if you want peace, prepare for war" when Taiwan (ROC) is facing military threats from the PRC. However, I'm curious whether it is suitable to use the same phrase in domestic politics, as if the Democratic Party chooses to "fight fire with fire", it would mean that both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party will be using an agressive approach while facing another.

Although this is considered as a way to prevent a democratic backsliding due to specific actions from Donald Trump or specific politicians from the Republican Party, this might also create more tensions between the them, not only causing more polarization and division between the Democrats and the Republicans, but also having a possibility of the chances for both political parties to cooperate decreasing, even after the influences of Donald Trump in the Republican Party fades away someday.

Therefore, how do Democrats think about Gavin Newsom using the phrase "fight fire with fire" when suggesting how the Democratic Party should face Donald Trump and the Republican Party?
