Geoguesser help

I am working on a geoguesser and need some help. I need to find the location of this picture on google maps. I am nearly certain the location is in Romania, possibly Bucharest. I think the main "hint" is the reflection in the back of the cars. It looks like some sort of church, but I can't be sure. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Romanians, do you also remember random people from your early childhood?

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m a Serbian woman and when I was around 6-7ish, I met a Romanian boy of around the same age at the beach.
Our parents barely understood each other as neither spoke English very well but us kids played nonetheless.
He gave me a little rock, and in the holes of it he stuck some flowers he found nearby. He also gave me his kite!
I still remember you, little friend, and if you happen to be reading this - I hope life’s treating you well!

Romania road trip in February – is it a good idea? (Snow/Ice)

Hi everyone!

My wife and I are planning a 10-14-day road trip through Romania in February 2027 (only time of year we can travel). Our route is:

Oradea → Sibiu → Porumbacu de Sus → Șinca Veche → Râșnov → Brașov → Prejmer → Hărman → Viscri → Rupea → Sighișoara → Biertan → Saschiz → Oradea.

We want to visit small traditional villages, old churches, beautiful places and try local Romanian food.

Our main concern is the weather. We are worried about snow, ice and driving conditions in February.

I have a few questions:

  • Is this route a good idea in February, or would you recommend another time of year?
  • Are the roads usually safe to drive on, especially in smaller villages?
  • Are places like Viscri, Biertan and Saschiz worth visiting in winter? Are restaurants and attractions open?
  • Is a normal car with winter tyres enough?

Thanks a lot!

Does anyone still remember Antonio Copetti, one of the Italians who contributed greatly to the construction of Modern Romania?🇷🇴🇮🇹

As part of the events organised to mark the Romania–Italy Cultural Year, it is now our turn to honour Antonio Copetti, an entrepreneur, municipal councillor, prominent Italian investor in Romania, and deputy mayor of the city of Râmnicu Vâlcea. We owe Copetti a great deal, as he made a significant contribution to the city's urban, architectural and civic development on the Oltenian banks of the Olt River. Born in Tolmezzo, Italy, Copetti was also the grandfather of Romanian composer Horia Moculescu.

Copetti's contribution once again highlights the special ties between Romania and Italy, with the Italian people having played a fundamental role in the development of our state. Just as it does today, Romania offered Italians a land of new opportunities. Copetti owned a construction company responsible for more than 30 notable buildings in Vâlcea County. These included educational institutions, such as the expansion of Alexandru Lahovari National College (1921) and the construction of the theological seminary in Vâlcea (1913–1922), as well as architecturally significant buildings, including Alexiu House (1903), Ștefan Georgescu House (1907), the Girls' School in Drăgășani, and the town hall in the spa resort of Ocnele Mari.

On the political front, Copetti served in the administration of Râmnicu Vâlcea, including during the First World War. He helped modernise the city and commissioned one of its most beautiful fountains, featuring a bust of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu (1913), as well as the Monument to Independence and the statue of Barbu Știrbei.

Italy continues to be the closest country to Romania, alongside our Latin family.

Shipping constraints, and parcel reshipping/forwarding from Romania

Shipping constraints in Romania

I am trying to order a discontinued item that is still available in Romania. There is only one unit left in stock. Although the seller has been quite responsive, they are unable to ship outside of Romania (even to neighbouring countries, it seems).

The seller explained that they are constrained by two factors:

  • their invoicing software does not accommodate invoices for export; and
  • they are contracted to exclusively use one particular courier company for shipping parcels (and I infer that the courier company only ships domestically).

Personally I find that's quite unfortunate, as to me it seems "not that hard" for a software company to add functionality to allow for service fees and further shipping options for export, and I feel that the contract with a domestic courier company could easily have been written to say that it would be exclusively used for all domestic shipping, without restricting international deliveries. (That's my impression as a non-expert.)

Anyways, so now I am looking at...

Parcel forwarding from Romania to the world

Besides some wholesale cargo reshippers / freight forwarders, I have eventually identified two options for "retail" parcel reshipping/forwarding.

I contacted each and I'm awaiting a response, although it's only been a few days.

There are several testimonials on Reddit for u/fanelboy. I didn't see a specific testimonial for ReShipper.

Are there any other feasible options that I could try?

Bran castle taxi or drive?

Sorry, classic tourist question here.

A friend and I have planned a quick trip for another friend's big birthday.

We've got a pretty chill itinerary but on Saturday (which is Halloween), we're leaving Bucharest in our hire car to Brasov where we're staying for two nights.

We have tickets booked for 5pm at Bran Castle new moon tour (not the big party, we're too old for that and not interested) but I don't think we'll get to our base in Brasov in time to get the bus to the castle - (we're stopping at Sinaia on the drive up). And would have to rush to get the last bus back to Brasov anyway.

So my question, do we look at Uber or Bolt to get there and back or do we drive and hope to park somewhere?

As we'll be finished by 7ish, hopefully we'll be going opposite direction to most people arriving so Ubers might be available?

Does anyone know which would be the better option? Drive or Uber?

Romania: accessibility for a road trip with a powered wheelchair

Hi everyone! I'm considering a short road trip around Romania with a family member who uses a powered wheelchair.

We'd only have a few days, so we're not planning to visit the whole country. We'd focus on one area, still to be decided depending partly on flight options. I've been looking at places like Brașov, Sibiu, Sighișoara and some of the smaller Saxon villages, but we're open to other ideas.

For now, I'm mainly trying to get a general idea of accessibility in Romanian cities and towns, and whether there are big differences between regions that we should take into account when choosing where to go.

I don't expect perfect accessibility everywhere, but we'd like to find places where exploring historic centres is reasonably comfortable. How much of a problem are cobblestones, steps, steep streets and uneven pavements for someone using a powered wheelchair?

We'd rent a car to move between places. Which areas or towns would you recommend, and are there any you'd avoid?

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

People who got accepted for the Romanian Government Scholarship for bachelor's degree share your experience please!

Hi! It would be helpful for others who didn't get accepted this year to know what they need to improve and expect later on after the acceptance! We all would really appreciate it if those who got accepted for the Romanian Government Scholarship any year would share what GPA, extracurriculars, and anything else they had.

I got rejected this year. I had a 4.5/5.0 GPA; I applied for Civil Engineering for bachelor's studies; mentioned SAT score of 1190, but my TOEFL was 71 at the time; didn't have meaningful extracurriculars, especially got nothing related to the major..I chose University of Bucharest for my language year, Technical University of Cluj-napoca and Politechnica University of Timisoara for studies. Next year I'm gonna be applying to some Computer Science major and I'm planning to work on getting some related extracurriculars. My SAT didn't improve but I now have a TOEFL score of 4.5/6.0 (90/120). And I already started learning Romanian but I still will be requesting a language year. Oh, and I'm from turkmenistan if it matters.

Asking for support on debt collectors

Dear all,

I lived in Romania and had an Orange contract. When i did the contract they told me I wouldn't have to pay extra to terminate it - I explained that I was living there for a period and could need to leave the country. When I left and tried to close the contract they requested me for money after multiple attempts of me trying to contact costumers support to terminate it. I said I wouldn't pay it since I was lied to.

Now, after almost 1 year, they transferred it to a debt collector, which is asking me now for 62.82 lei.

What could they actually do?

Should I pay it? Anyways, I missed the email because it was in spam and the time they gave to pay already passed.

Anyone with similar experiences?

Thanks.

Looking for an authentic local home-cooked meal / traditional feast for a group of 20 near Brașov between May 5–9 (Bachelor trip)

Hi everyone! 👋

A group of us (20 people) are visiting the Brașov area for a bachelor/bachelorette trip between May 5th and May 9th. We want to skip the typical city tourist spots for one afternoon or evening and experience an authentic, traditional Romanian home-cooked feast in the mountains or countryside nearby (e.g., around Bran, Moieciu, Măgura, Peștera, or Zărnești).

We are looking for a local family, mountain pensiune (guesthouse), or local sheepfold/farm (stână) that would be open to hosting/cooking a big lunch or dinner for our group on one of these days.

What we are looking for:

  • Authentic local food (mămăligă, bulz, sarmale, local cheeses, grilled meats, țuică/pălincah, etc.).
  • A cozy, authentic setting (mountain village, outdoor setup, or traditional dining room).
  • We are a friendly, respectful group looking for good food and a memorable experience together.

Details:

  • Group size: 20 people
  • Dates: Flexible between May 5 and May 9
  • Budget: Fully prepared to pay a fair price per person for the food, drinks, and warm hospitality.
  • Transport: We will arrange our own group transport (minibus/taxis).

If you know a local guesthouse owner, family, or unique spot that loves hosting larger groups for a traditional meal, please drop a comment or send me a DM!

Mulțumesc frumos!

Romanian lessons and learning Romanian?

Hi, I would like to learn Romanian to B1. I have previously studied all the other four major Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese) to varying degrees of fluency so hoping that gives me a boost.

My local embassy recommended rolang.ro - looks good and they give classes online too, but they charge €29 an hour! Which is quite a lot.

Any other recommendations? Looking to learn online but would also be willing to spend 90 days (max visa policy) in România or Moldova at a language school, so that is also an option.

Mulțumesc!

Project- From world -please feedback

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently organized and published my core portfolio repository and associated architectural blueprints, released under the MIT License as **Global Public Goods**:

* **GitHub Portfolios & Projects:** github.---/marcelcluj-bit

* **Key Focus Areas:** Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN), Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization models, geological telemetry verification layers, and open municipal resource management blueprints.

### What I am looking for feedback on:

  1. **Architectural Design:** How well modular components (Python automation, smart contracts/Solidity, and GIS data frameworks) are structured for scalability.
  2. **Documentation & Usability:** Clarity of the project structures and how easily contributors can navigate or integrate the repositories.
  3. **Community Contribution Pathways:** Suggestions on improving the developer onboarding process for open-source contributors.

If you are a developer, DePIN architect, or open-source enthusiast interested in real-world infrastructure tokenization, I would greatly appreciate your code reviews, issues, or architectural suggestions directly on GitHub.

Thank you for building for the global commons!

Recruitment

Hey everyone, I need your advice. Which cities in Romania are best for finding a job? While I'm getting my documents ready, I need to find some kind of work to cover my expenses. I don't speak Romanian, only English. Are there any industrial zones with warehouses or something similar? Thanks in advance!

Thinking about doing my Master's at West University of Timișoara. Could use some advice!

Hi everyone!

I'm from Egypt, and I'm planning to move to Romania in 2027 to pursue a Master's degree at West University of Timișoara (UVT). I'm interested in Organizational Psychology and HR-related programmes.

I'm currently researching the university, admission requirements, scholarships, living costs, and opportunities for internships or part-time jobs while studying.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's currently studying at UVT or has experience living in Timișoara, especially international students.

I have a few questions about the application process, student life, accommodation, and job opportunities, and I'd be happy to ask them in the comments or through DMs.

Any advice or personal experiences would be really helpful. Thanks in advance! 🇷🇴
