To be fair, I think this one should become a phrase in its own right.

What is a Bone Apple Tea?

/r/BoneAppleTea began as a meme where someone said, obviously, "bone apple tea" instead of "bon appétit." The meaning of the term for this subreddit is slightly different now:

A Bone Apple Tea is the mistaken use of a real, dictionary-defined word or phrase in place of another real, dictionary-defined word or phrase that sounds similar, resulting in a nonsensical, sometimes humorous utterance. BOTH THE WORD(S) REPLACING AND THE WORD(S) BEING REPLACED MUST BE REAL MERRIAM-WEBSTER DICTIONARY DEFINED WORDS. WORDS STRUNG TOGETHER DON'T COUNT.”

To combat reposts and spammers, we have enacted a rule that all accounts must be at least 30 days old and have at least 500 combined karma (this means across all of Reddit, not just in this sub)

DO NOT DM A MOD. If you have an issue, contact us through modmail ONLY. DMing a mod through either a private message or chat will result in a 30 day ban

Rules

Moderators reserve the right to remove posts and comments at their discretion

Rule 1: Posts must show a bone apple tea.

A Bone Apple Tea is the mistaken use of a real, dictionary-defined word or phrase by a human (not speech to text or captions) in place of another real, dictionary-defined word or phrase that sounds similar

THIS MEANS:

Both the mistaken original word(s) AND the replacing bone apple tea must be real, and found in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. This includes foreign words.
If two real words do not have a space between them, it's not valid becausethat’s nota realword. If it's a word that would be correct with out the space, it's not valid.
If it looks like an accidental misspelling or autocorrect, it will be removed, and you can post it on r/boneappletypo, our sister sub!
The mistaken word must sound similar to real word. This means phonetically, not regionally.
However, we do not accept homonyms, homophones, or homographs--these can be posted in r/boneappletee, our other sister sub.
Must not be from children or ESL speakers.
No memes, no matter if it fits.
No BATs of names of people, places, media, or brands
Anything else is at moderator discretion.

Appropriate Subreddits

Misspellings are not the point of this sub. Misspellings are generally more suited for /r/boneappletypo
Homonyms(-graphs,-phones) are not the point of this sub, they can be posted in /r/boneappletee
Bad translations belong in /r/Engrish.
Puns and wordplay go in /r/puns.
Misspellings in or originating from kids' games go in /r/gocommitdie.
Confusing signs are better suited for /r/dontdeadopeninside.

Rule 2: Post titles must contain the bone apple tea shown in the post.

To help us identify reposts, your title must exactly match the bone apple tea in the post - The mistaken word, NOT the original. If it's not clear what the original word or phrase should be, please add it to the title as well.

Rule 3: No reposts.

The same post may only be posted once every 3 months if the original has less than 5000 upvotes, or 6 months for anything higher. The same bone apple tea may only be posted once a week. It is up to mod discretion if it will be allowed more than that. Complaining in mod mail will NOT get your post reinstated if it has been removed for Rule 3.

We will also remove identical bone apple teas in different formats--ie. "minus well" in your screenshot, something from Twitter, etc etc.

Moderators reserve the right to remove repeat similar posts based on community feedback, or our own sense that something has been posted too often and needs "a rest."

Rule 4: No banned stuff.

These phrases will not be approved under any circumstances

If your post contains any phone number or address of any kind (even scammers) you will be immediately permanently banned and reported to Reddit Admins. Including other info may result in bans of varying lengths

Rule 6: Only Images That Have Been Uploaded to Reddit or Imgur

Do not directly link to other subreddits, other websites, videos, or anything taking place outside /r/BoneAppleTea. Your post must contain a properly anonymized image of someone using a bone apple tea. Text posts are no longer allowed and will be automatically filtered.
