Hello Buildapc!

Something a little different for you all this time: Let's get creative! We've partnered up with TRYX and their HOLO 360 White 360mm AIO Liquid Cooler to give a few people a new way to express themselves. Have an idea for a dashboard in your PC, a cute critter friend, or a custom graphic that ties the whole PC together? Show it off here and win the liquid cooler that will make that idea a reality!

From TRYX:

Hey everyone!

We're celebrating the TRYX HOLO ARGB 360mm Liquid Cooler and an epic community giveaway for people who love clean builds and like making their PC feel more personal.

Since the HOLO 360 Liquid Cooler has that customizable holographic style pump screen we figured it would be fun to see what create ideas you could come up with! Customize your AIO screen with any image, artwork, AI image, drawing, GIF concept or vidual idea.

Pick one of these three categories when you enter: "Best Holographic Vision", "Best Setup Integration", or "Best X Your Mark".

Best Holographic Vision

Create the most eye catching visual for the HOLO screen that makes the whole build pop. Abstract animations, futuristic effects, flowing particles, neon landscapes or anything else that catches the eye.

Best Setup Integration

This category is about how well your idea works inside a real case. Not just the flashiest thing but something that feels like it belongs with the rest of the build.

Best X Your Mark

Show off what you want! Give your PC a roommate or a pet, put an original character in it, show off your hobbies or artwork, or find a way to cleverly hide a meme in your system (or don't - make it blatantly obnoxious). This is your category - have fun with it!

Build Complete Built my first ever PC after 15+ years of console gaming and it was one of the most fun/rewarding things I’ve ever done.

I’ve never been enough of a gamer to think about building a PC, but I’ve been getting back into Fortnite after I quit during college in 2019 (playing on a ps5 this time). I noticed the jump from 60 to 120 fps and then started using kbm on console to prep for when I could spend some money on a pc… and man. A locked 240fps on a 240hz monitor looks out of this world.

Got a ryzen 7 7800x3d and a 5060ti with 32gb ddr5, fried a motherboard in the first build attempt (lol) and had to make a windows bootable usb from my Mac (ugh) bc I’ve never had a windows device.. and after all that, I’m left with this beast of a machine (by my standards) that I created.

I just wanna look at it while it runs lol I’m completely obsessed with this thing. I wish I would have done this before but I didn’t have adult money. Probably not the most relevant thing in the world but I just felt like sharing bc nobody else I talk to really cares to hear about my “computer stuff” but this was really an awesome experience. I’m so glad I didn’t buy a prebuild if for nothing else but the learning experience.

Build Upgrade Upgrading from an i5-8600K+RTX 2070 Super to a 9800X3D+9070 XT

Hey everyone,

I’m about to order a full upgrade and wanted a sanity check. Apart from the SSD, which I’m reusing, am I missing anything?

Current system (being replaced):

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4

New parts listt

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk WiFi
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 2x16GB 6000 MHz CL30
  • GPU: XFX Mercury Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB OC RGB

Ofcourse I'll be adding fans from Lian-Li aswell for the airflow and looks but those are not so important to mention, I was wondering is the jump to DDR5 a good one for someone who already has 32GB DDR4? VERY Curious to hear you guys thoughts!

EDIT: And with current prices, it kind of feels dumb to wait with upgrading? It feels to me like it’s only going to get more and more expensive... I’m talking about RAM/GPU, of course. What’s your take on that?

EDIT PART2: AS WE SPEAK I just refreshed my shopping cart and the 9070XT just went up with 30 euro + the Cpu bumped up with 40 euro LMAO

CRAZY

Build Help 7800x3d or 9800x3d

Hello. im currently building a pc with an rtx 5070 ti and 180hz, 1440p monitor. and I've been stuck between these two ryzen CPUs. the 7800x3d and 9800x3d. my friend is telling me to go for the 9800x3d because its gonna be "overall", better. now i play alot of cyberpunk 2077, teardown, half sword and similar games. So, now im having a slight dilemma, do i pay 400-500 zl (polish currency) more for the 9800x3d or get the 7800x3d for way less? ive heard they're similar in performance but i wanna hear what u guys think.

Build Upgrade is it worth upgrading from R5 5600 to R5 5600X3D if i play at 4K

• Upvotes

i need your opinion fellow pc gamers.

like the title, is it worth the upgrade to X3D if i just use my PC for gaming, and at 4K (FSR ofc)

i cant afford 5800X3D , its too expensive on my place, even 5600X3D is expensive but i think can afford it

im using 6800XT, 32GB 3600 RAM btw, just play casual / AAA story games

thankyou

EDIT : after some considering, i think i'll stay. cant afford to upgrade GPU for now, but yeah upgrading CPU is not that worth too for my usecase. I thankyou for saving my money guys

Discussion Worth upgrading from 5700X3D to a 7800X3D?

Right now I have a 5700X3D paired with a 9070xt. I mostly play competitive games on 1080p with lower settings for maximum fps. My 5700x3d seems to be holding back my gpu a fair bit, and now with the release of the new cod, I struggle to hit 144 fps. At 1080p I definitely want to see higher frames than that. Especially because I’m on a 240hz monitor.

Would upgrading to a 7800X3D give me the bump in performance I want?

Troubleshooting Motherboard not powering, i've tried everything

I have an old ASRock B85M-DGS 1150 socket that i wanted to use as my 2nd PC for linux, it worked before just fine, i traveled with the parts to a different city but i used a antistatic bag in a foam box. When i put everything back the PC didn't power at all, no beep, no fan, nothing, i've tried the case button as well as shorting the pins with a screwdriver.

The GPU light was on when i put it into the PCI-E slot, it was a red light because i haven't connected the power connector, so i know current goes through it. I've tried two different CPUs, a 4460 and a 4790, i've tried different RAMs, every placement possible, i've tried without anything, with only the CPU, only the RAM, with nothing, just a fan so i know it powered. Tried different PSUs. Tried clearing the CMOS both removing it and waiting 1h and by using the switch.

I'm at my wit's end, should i just accept it's dead, or is there something else i can do, i tried searching for some hotspots when attempting to power it on, i can solder, but i don't know where to start, i think something it's shorting since it's not powering on, any ideas?

Build Help Is radeon 7900xtx still a good choice?

I need a graphics card that would have up to 24gb of VRAM (and yes I will use all of it). Should I just get the 7900xtx or wait for the 5080 super (assuming it comes) and pay a few pennies for it? The biggest problem is that it's getting harder to find the 7900xtx and it's getting older now and the drivers are probably questionable too. I have a budget of around 2000 bucks and will use it for gaming (located in USA) Thanks for advice!

Build Upgrade Upgrading from a 3700xX to a 5800X3D

So now that the 5800X3D is avaialable at a decent price again, should I pull the trigger? I've been meaning to a couple of years back but decided not too, and now it seems like a second chance to pick it up.

My current setup -
CPU - 3700X
GPU - RTX 2080 FE
Ram - 32GB
Resolution - 3440x1440 144hz

Since my GPU is pretty old, I've gotten used to the idea of gaming on low-medium settings on newer title. My last upgrade was in 2021 and I've become a full grown adult with mortgage now so while I do still game, I don't find myself having the time to fine tune graphic settings anymore, I just want a smooth 60fps above to enjoy games. I do mostly video editing now while still wanting to game every now and then.

So, good idea? Thanks!

Build Help Need help choosing a main monitor

I'm going back to university to become an actuary, and I'm building a home setup for studying/working that can also double as a solid gaming PC.

Budget on this one : 500$ CAD

Use:

- Studying and working: lots of spreadsheets, coding, PDFs, and long reading sessions
- Gaming: Skyrim, Oblivion Remastered, Elden Ring (Shadow of the Erdtree), Dark Souls trilogy, OSRS/RuneScape, Minecraft with shaders, and GTA VI on PS5
- I don't play competitive fast-paced shooters (Valorant, CoD, etc.), so 300Hz+ is useless to me. Image quality matters more than raw speed.

1 : GIGABYTE MO27Q2A 27" QD-OLED QHD AMD Freesync Premium Pro Gaming Monitor

2: AOC Agon Pro 27 Inch Gaming Monitor QD OLED 240Hz 0.03ms, AG276QZD

3: (to avoid burn-in) : AOC Q27G3XMN 27" Mini LED Gaming Monitor

I’m also looking for a 27” monitor as a secondary screen. My budget would be ~250$ and it would either be a VA or Ips 1440p.

I’m also open to any suggestion. Thanks !

Build Upgrade jump from i3-10105f to Ryzen 7 5700x or i5 12600kf?

So currently my PC build is

-ASrock b560m hdv

-Intel Core i3-10105f

-16gb DDR4 (I have 2 more ddr4 8gb sticks but don't have slots)

-AeroCool vx plus 600

and I updated from GTX 1650 to RTX 5050 this spring

AFAIK the bottleneck currently is the CPU, and since its my bday soon, I plan to upgrade to either:

-GIGABYTE B550M DS3H R2

-AMD Ryzen 7 5700x

-32gb DDR4 (the motherboard has 4x ddr4 slots)

or

- any motherboard with good enough cooling to support

- Intel Core i5 12600kf

- a good cooler

- 32gb DDR4

AFAIK for the 12600's 150wt the motherboard needs to have amazing cooling (and obviously I'll need the cooler, which isn't free either), which begs the question: should I go with AMD and forget the troubles with cooling, or go with more expensive Intel option?

also should I swap the power supply?

Build Help Intel vs amd

So I'm deciding between a build woth a 270k and 9070xt or a 7800x3d and 9070, the latter is 40 bucks more expensive. I don't care too much about upgradeability as long as either of these will last me a good few years. My problem is I know the x3d cache can reduce stuttering, so I'm wondering to anyone who uses the intel cpus if stuttering would be a problem or not (I have 32gb of ram) or if I'd be fine. And btw I'd be playing heavily modded minecraft, at least that's the biggest worry because ik gpu heavy games will be js fine, so whatchall think?

Discussion Want to get into building

• Upvotes

Hi all, I have been a console gamer my entire life, and I was fortunate to earn my dream swe job that starts in January, and so I am thinking about building a gaming pc (that would also be used for work and general use). I’ve always dreamt about a beautiful setup with dual monitors and stuff, so once I start working I want to invest in that. I’m assuming I can still play on console with the setup, but I’d also have access to a much bigger library of games on pc. I know absolutely nothing about building a pc, but I looked around online and decided that a good budget would be $2500-$3000. Is that enough for a good pc? What parts should I be looking into? Ofc I will read more online but I trust Reddit with this kind of stuff

Build Help Please help with my gpu connection

Hi everyone, I got an adapter from NVIDIA with my RTX 5070 Ti and plugged it into the GPU. However, my PSU’s PCIe cable has two 8-pin connectors on a single cable (a daisy-chain cable). I’ve heard that you shouldn’t connect it this way, but I don’t have any free PCIe ports left on my PSU. What should I do in this situation? How should I connect everything properly?

Build Help PC build

This is my first pc build! I wanted a pc that has strong gaming and possible streaming capabilites and will atleast last 5 years without requiring an upgrade. My budget is roughly $5000. I used chat gpt to pick out my parts optimizing for low temp, noise, power consumption without sacrificing much performance. Share your thoughts and reccomendations please!

Build Help 7700xt 12gb (400 USD) vs 9060xt 16gb (485 USD) vs 9070 GRE 12gb (550 USD)

Im finally deciding to bite the bullet and buy a new GPU after 5 years on a 2060 6gb and the 7700xt, 9060xt, and 9070 GRE are my top choices. Ideally I would love to get the newest architecture but with how prices are right now thats going to be a bit rough but the 3 listed above are the deals that I managed to find before anysort of sale.

My goal is to be able to run most shooter games (Apex, Marvel Rivals, Arc Raiders, Helldivers) at 1440p 240 fps (low/med/high, ill just mix and match) and for singleplayer games (CP77, RDR2, Alan Wake 2) at 1440 high/ultra at 100fps

Edit: Changing the 100 fps down to 60 fps since 100 fps seems to be unrealistic based on the comments

I did a preliminary search and used Gemini to basically compare 3D Benchmarks, specifically Time Spy, scores between the 3 using an R5 5600 (My CPU) and their Points per Dollar

7700xt scores about 17,000 points with a points per dollar of 42.5, the 9060xt scores 16,536 with a points per dollar of 34.1, and the 9070 GRE scores 22079 with a points per dollar of 40.1

Given the use cases I mentioned above will the 12gb VRam of the 9070 GRE/7700xt cause issues? And do I need the extra 20-30% performance the 9070 GRE provides to hit that consistent 1440p 240fps for shooters and 1440p ultra 100fps for singleplayer? Does the newer architecture outweight the money I'm saving from the 7700xt?

Also I do plan on changing to AM5 with a x3d chip as soon as I get a kit thats actually decently priced

Troubleshooting Thermalright AIO leaking (?) on fan and being a little noisy recently.

I am unsure how exactly to title this.

While I was opening my PC up to give it a good cleaning I noticed that one of my AIO fans seems to have a substance coming from the middle of the fan. Possibly the fan bearing?

First I thought it might be oil from the manifacturing process working its way out but surely the other two fans would also have this at least slightly; and yet they don't.

Could it be the radiator leaking into the fan instead? I can't make out more of this substance on the PC itself however a few weeks ago I did notice that my Pump starts to make more sloshing sounds than usual, which in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing but I do think they're getting more and more recent as time goes on. A bit too much for not even being 2 years old.

It should be noted that this is my first self built PC so I dont have the best knowledge of things like that yet and I am unsure if I should be worried or not. Help a girl out 🙏

AIO is Thermalright FW Pro 360 ARGB

Discussion Vintage looking PC case for a vintage computer

Hello. This post maybe doesn't exactly fit this subreddit, because most of you are probably thinking about modern builds, and not vintage computers, but I hope to find some help here as well.

I own a Commodore PC-10 III which is an IBM XT clone. This computer comes from the times when standards weren't a thing and the only parts this computer shares with modern machines are card slots, power connector and 5.25" bay slots.

(horizontal) Case of my 8-bit computer is made out of steel and is really heavy. The case is bent in multiple places and everything barely fits. Keyboard connector is on the right side and is partially blocked by top cover which makes connecting a keyboard difficult or impossible without unscrewing top cover first. Plastic front panel is cracked in multiple places. I tried to restore this case as much as I could. Sadly I got this computer in this state. It was damaged by previous owners.

Power supply is another problem. As I said, nothing here is standardised so the computer used its own faulty custom PSU in a custom case. New modern MeanWell PSU has its issues. It gets really toasty with higher current consumption when I run heavy applications, and it doesn't have "power ok" line, so the computer crashes every time on cold boot before voltages stabilise forcing me to press a reset button.

At this moment I got an idea to buy and modify one of those modern retro PC cases. I could install a proper ATX power supply, add more ports and maybe connect LCD with frequency counter to CPU clock signal (this computer supports 4.77MHz, 7.16MHz and 9.54MHz speeds with no easy way to check current speed at any moment).

Silverstone FLP02 looks fantastic, but the price is outrageous for a project that could fail. FLP01 is fine and it is also a horizontal case. Thermaltake Retro 360 is a bit too modern. What could you suggest?

Build Help Worried if I can run Intel XMP RAM on AMD CPU and AMD Motherboard on 6000 MT/s

• Upvotes

So basically I'm planning a PC build with these components:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws S5 White 32GB (2×16GB), DDR5-6000 CL30 (F5-6000J3040F16GX2-RS5W)

The RAM uses Intel XMP rather than AMD EXPO. The equivalent EXPO kit costs around €50 more, so I'd prefer to save the money if possible.

My questions are:

1) Has anyone used this exact RAM kit with the B650 EAGLE AX and 7800X3D? Any issues?

2) Will I be able to easily enable XMP in the Gigabyte BIOS and actually run it at 6000 MT/s stable on this AMD setup?
