Hi divers! I’m a high school student, and my business class group designed a concept for an underwater buddy-finding device called AquaEcho. It’s not being built or sold. It’s purely a class project, and we’re trying to find out if real divers think it solves a real problem.

The idea: since humans can’t tell which direction a sound is coming from underwater, the device would send simple preset messages (OK, Separated, Emergency) using whale and dolphin-style sounds, and show your buddy’s direction and distance on a small screen. There’s also a light that flashes faster as you get closer.

If you’re a certified diver, the survey takes about 3 minutes. Harsh feedback is welcome. If you think it’s a bad idea, we’d rather know why, because it helps us build a more realistic project.

Even though it has been raining for days and days, the caves in the Riviera Maya are still accessible, although in this case, a line had to be run topside to the main line that USUALLY begins tied to a rock in open air!

Cave diving inside Krupaj spring, Serbia. Confirmed a connection between two parts of the cave visually (when the cameraman swings the light, my light can be seen from the connection at the end of our line). The connection was to risky to use as there was lots of loose rocks above it directly.

Hey guys, I’m looking to not spend an egregious amount of money to get a completely new wing and harness to dive side-mount.

I have been diving doubles on my transpac for a while now, and have recently found a cave, that I expect to have some restrictions, I’d like to push into.

So far i have used some shock cord between my harness grommet and tank valve to pull it up into my armpit, and sidemount buttplate to pull it back and it’s worked okay. (not tried in the water yet) still need to cord the wing (voyager) so it doesn’t taco.

Any tips or ideas?

I’m beginning planning stage for a trip to Tulum for my Cavern and Intro to Cave Course. Looking for recommendations as to lodging/travel/ or anything you think I need to plan for.

Still doing research, but based on that and my local instructor recommendation, looking at taking the combined course at Third Dimension.

Lodging: Airbnb vs resort style? My wife is not taking the course but will be traveling along. Easy access to beach or available shuttle would be ideal.

Airport: Tulum vs Cancun (edited)

Vehicle: Shuttle or taxi to shop every day vs Renting a car. Or any recommendations for a place within a reasonable walking distance.

Timeframe: Course is 5 days. Looking to plan for at least 6 diveable days for additional training needed or fill with a post certification guided cave day.

Day 4 of a stage class with our two wonderful guests, and what better place to do it than Cenote Xulo?

I'm looking for a small, handy camera similar to a GoPro or Insta360, and it could also be one of the models mentioned that perform well in low-light scenarios, such as in a cave. I currently use the Dive-Volk case for my Samsung S24 Ultra, which takes very nice shots but is incredibly unwieldy due to its size. That's why I'm looking for a camera setup that is as compact as possible. What experiences have you had with the cameras in the past, or maybe you can even recommend one? We are in Mexico at the end of October.

Figured since my last video got some love I’d leave another!

I started diving in July this year. I have my basic nitrous in Advance certification. I have logged in about 20 or so Dive’s usually every one of my days off or both. I use a side mounted 19 ft.³ pony bottle for my just in case moments finding a reliable Dive buddy is a little more difficult than I hoped. Would like to eventually get to cave diver. I will be taking the rescue diving class the month of October. Any suggestions from the scuba experts to head down that path. I’m not in a position to financially buy a CCR or SCR but I do find it fascinating don’t know if my brain wheelhouse is equipped for all that technology.

800+ safe cave dives. Last dive was 100 minutes at Chan Hol.

I watch a ridiculous amount of diving content on yt, particularly tec and cave diving, but the signal-to-noise ratio seems increasingly terrible.

I don’t even mean AI content. I mean the 30 min video where there’s a long intro, sponsor segment, rambling, generic advice, etc etc, and afterwards you realise there were maybe three mins of actual info in it.

I’m Full Cave and Advanced Trimix, moving into CCR, so looking for reasonably advanced material rather than beginner scuba content.

What channels do you think consistently produce genuinely substantive stuff where you actually learn something?

Even Dive Talk is often a bit clickbaitey, altho Woodys video on CCR advice about a month ago was excellent.

Hey guys. I’ve been exploring a cave system deep in the jungle around tulum Mexico. Today after hiking our gear in I noticed some paw prints about 5” from the pad bring to the tip. Was wondering if anyone could help me find out what it is. I’m thinking a jaguar but not sure. Thanks in advance!

We're cavers making Cave Expedition, a game about exploring dry and flooded caves. This short clip shows the dry passages and rope descents. You can explore solo or with up to three friends, and the game is still in development.

Overall had a great experience- instructor was fantastic, patient yet detailed. Being in the caves was out of this world and definitely got under my skin. But it was also an incredibly intense experience and have been feeling mentally drained afterwards. Have others had similar experiences?

Definitely leaning towards taking some time to hone my skills, get more experience with intro level dives before progressing to full.
