This mission is from the German side of the operation deadstick campaign, featured in Battle for Normandy (not an official campaign, but one i downloaded).

This is mission 2 from said campaign, "Howard's Men". Perhaps someone here has beat it? Even if you haven't advice would be appreciated.

I've got about 132 pioneers not including tank crewmen aboard 2 panzer 2 lynxs. They are all green, low or ok motivation, whereas the defending british paratroopers are elite and fanatically motivated. Worst of all, I've got a dreadful time limit of but 15 minutes plus 2 minutes variable time.

So essentially my troops just get pinned down in t junction, and struggle to build firing superiority agaisnt the elite paratroopers, in addition trying to bring my panzer 2s into action is tough thanks to british piats punishing the advance. Once I've gotten past the t junction objective, i usually have extremely limited time left, and have usually lost a panzer, my men all rattled and now increasing fragile when taking enemy fire. Combine that with heavily defended objectives ( about 1 platoon worth of paras in each one, aswell as supporting fire from across the river), and it makes for a tough nut to crack)

I do realise the information I've provided so far is perhaps limited, especially to those who haven't played this level, feel free to ask for more!

What's the best campaign to play if small scale infantry combat is my jam? I lack the intelligence or patience to succeed at anything with more than a few units.

I started "The Road to MonteBourg" campaign back in mid May and I just completed it today. Just WOW, I found this campaign to be very difficult. Heavy infantry focus campaign with multiple missions where you're just running across large open fields with no armored support. The last mission at Eroudeville was a breathe of fresh air with the platoon of shermans in support.

My plan for this campaign was to play a mission then watch Usually Hapless' AAR on youtube. This was incredibly fun to watch how he would approach certain missions. However, most missions have multiple starting layouts and AI plans, so the mission didn't always play out the same way.

About halfway through the campaign I took a 2-3 month break from playing. I got to the "Hell in the Hedgerows" missions and couldn't caulk up the courage to send my men into open fields with multiple MG-42 bunkers watching the crossing.

After my break, I said screw it lets try to send one squad on the far right flank to attempt a crossing and they never got shot at! That one squad with a bazooka was all that I needed to break through the heavily defended road.

At this point, I think I am done with Battle for Normandy. Only so much hedgerow to hedgerow fighting I can handle. Plus after 600+ hours, I am finding the AI to be too slow and easy. If anyone is interested I'd be down to play any of the WW2 titles.

I am getting confused about using on and off map arty in both SF2 and CMN. In both, I will have dudes who have eyes on where I want to target and be in what I would think was shouting range but the arty will be out of contact or denied. Is there a set way to know how to employ arty?

The MMG team had no target orders from the previous turn, which is when it decided to start shooting. I thought they spotted something else so I decided to leave it alone. Next turn they keep shooting until they killed the tank commander :S, which was the platoon leader :(.

As you can see they also spotted the germans but decided this was the Vietnam War

Has anyone ever played against an AI like Claude with any of the Combat Mission titles?

• Development Status: Is there any recent news or timeline update regarding Combat Mission 3 (or whatever the next engine iteration will be called)?
• Community Sentiment: How are people feeling about the direction of the series right now under the Slitherine partnership?
• Missed Info: Have the devs mentioned anything notable recently in smaller forum posts or discussions that might not have made big headlines?

I recently noticed a upcoming RPG with a very new and interesting take on infantry AI. If Combat Mission had a similar take on how AI can be programmed, I would be all for it. Obviously the tempo should be toned way down, but I would still love to see urban combat with actors who are not passive but who constantly fights for their own existence. If combined with Combat Missions strong focus on realism, simulation of C2.

How awesome could it be to give your squad leader an order and see how that order gets translated down the chain of command and soldiers acting on given orders.

I know this seems kinda stupid but, is there anyway make the trucks carry mortar rounds when buying them as an individual unit in CMSF2?

I’ve been playing through the “Purple Heart lane” campaign in BN and one of my companies sustained heavy casualties during an enemy artillery barrage on the second mission.

Would it be ethical to reload a previous save and keep the pixeltroopen alive, or continue and live with the mistake of keeping my units bunched up?

Has anyone risked updating their Steamdeck to Guinea pig test CM titles? I rolled back to 3.7 months ago after getting VRAM stability problems, but I see the newest 3.8 stable release is supposed to address a bunch of these issues…

I want to know if there's any reasonable chance of it coming back for sale.
