Megathread Pricing Megathread

Since a lot of people have questions about pricing lately, I thought I would throw a Megathread up here for folks to have it all in one place. We might also discuss trying to come up with some sort of formula that could be applied to most situations.

Please put all general pricing questions here. For example, if your question is something like "How much can I charge for this?", then you can ask it here.

Megathread Good Enough?

We've been seeing a flood lately of posts asking, "Is this good enough to sell?" and variations on that theme. We're not really here to evaluate someone's skill level or the popularity of a particular item for sale. It's too subjective. However, if you really need to get it out, post in the comments below. All other individual posts of that nature, from this point onward, will be removed. I have added a new rule to the sidebar. Please read it and follow it. Thank you.

General Discussion Do you like this?

My husband loves them and likes that I can make the bottom beads themed for holidays. I can also do this with different types of chains. I was curious if anyone else likes my bottle jewelry. I can also make various patterns.

Just to clarify, the chains are removable. You can put them on any standard wine bottle :>

Edit: Im not asking how much to sell these for. I only wanted to find out if people actually like them :>

Pricing I need advice on how to price my simple crochet beanies.

The beanies I make are fairly simple. I use Bernat blanket yarn. It only takes me about an hour and maybe an hour and a half with problems to make one beanie. I chain 20 and then double crochet 22 rows. I then single crochet the sides and then I'm done. With one skein it's about 13 to 14 dollars depending on where I go. I can make two and a half beanies per skein. There are little art fairs I plan on joining later and I love crochet and just have yarn and simple projects I can do and make like a little side cash. I don't want to do it full time so I don't want to over charge and would like some advice on what is too much or too little for my time and material cost for the beanies. I was thinking maybe 15 to 20 dollars so I can make some profit and earn back what I spent on yarn.

General Discussion Selling Crochet

Hello! New here.

TL;DR
I had an idea for a crochet shop. If you are a seller - How would you go about selling your originals, and what should I know? Is Etsy the way to go? FB marketplace? Do I try to get myself into maker’s markets? Is it even worth the effort? Do you get any real income from it (not assuming it’d be a full time income, but a few hundred doing something I love would be so helpful to my family).

I’ve been crocheting off and on for about 20 years (wow, am I that old?) since I was a young teen. Picked up my hook the beginning of this year to make my daughter a scarf, made a few hats and headbands, and just recently started teaching myself amigurumi (sp?). It gave me an idea, and I searched Etsy and Facebook and Reddit crochet, couldn’t find l anyone offering exactly what I had thought up.

Anyway, so I made my own pattern and had my first go this weekend as a part of my child’s Halloween costume. And now I’ve learned from some mistakes and know that it takes roughly $10 and 2 hours to make. I’m thinking I would sell for $15-25, depending on size. I’m going to make a second at the request of my other child, and one for a gift. Once I have 5 patterns and pictures ready, I’m thinking that’s when I’d start advertising.

Etsy Crochet Esty Shop Collaboration Suggestion

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, newbie seller here. I have a question. I've wished to have my own crochet online shop on Etsy. But in my country, it's almost impossible to open a Etsy shop account without suspension. I open one myself and was suspended before posting a single product. I wonder if I can still have any hope with Etsy? For example, working with someone to have my products post on their shop. Their shop will have more products, and more purchase, while I can sell my products. I even willing to pay them a part of the money earned for that. Is that even possible? Plz give me advice guys, I run out of idea.

I recently completed this full set of handmade amigurumi plushies. Since I am just getting started with international shipping from Vietnam, I would love to hear advice on whether it's better to offer them as a full collector bundle or focus on individual listings. Any tips on managing packaging sizes for larger orders would be super helpful!

Etsy Follow up post on the bookmarks

Hey people, thank you so so much for all the ideas and opinions you shared under my last post!

Most of you said that bookmarks are simply not the product i should go for, so I made these earrings instead :)

These are priced at 18.90€

Sadly I cant go any lower due to etsy fees and all the effort.

Do you think the price is okay for the market?

Do you have any other ideas of similar things i could create from wooden veneer?

I know many of you said i should do wall art, and they will come in some weeks, just takes a bit more time to have the setup right (esp bc it seems i might lose my flat lol)

This is the shop link in case you'd like to see more pics :)

General Discussion An idea for helping beginner knitters with unfinished projects

Hi everyone! I wanted to share an idea my team and I have been working on for beginner knitters.

Sometimes you know the basic stitches, but when something looks wrong in your own project, it can be hard to figure out what happened or how to fix it.

Our idea is to connect beginners with experienced retired knitters for one-to-one, in-person help. You could bring along your unfinished project and work through the tricky parts together, without joining a full course.

It’s still early days, but we’ve put together a page explaining the idea. If it sounds useful to you, you’re welcome to take a look. There’s also a waitlist for anyone interested:

General Discussion Starting a cotton tote bag business - Is it still profitable in 2026?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I can source plain cotton tote bags at a very low cost and I'm thinking of starting a small business around it.

My plan is to sell both plain eco-friendly bags and custom printed bags for cafes, shops, and events.

For people who already sell these or buy them regularly:

  1. What actually sells more - plain bags, aesthetic printed designs, or custom logo bags for businesses?

  2. What is a reasonable selling price for a good quality thick cotton tote?

  3. What quality problems should I avoid? Like thin fabric, weak handles, print fading after wash?

  4. Is Etsy/ Instagram better for this, or is offline B2B (cafes/shops) more profitable?

Would love to hear honest feedback - is this market already too saturated?

General Discussion Has anyone tried making crochet or pipe-cleaner flowers as a side hustle?

Hi everyone! I’m thinking of starting a small home-based business in India selling handmade crochet items and those trendy pipe-cleaner flower bouquets that are popular on Instagram. I’m planning to start small and sell through Instagram or Reddit maybe, but before investing in materials, I wanted to know if this is actually profitable.

For those who have experience selling handmade products, how much do you usually charge, what are the material and packaging costs like, and is it difficult to find customers? I’d really appreciate honest advice on whether this is a worthwhile side hustle and which product would be better to start with.

Thank you!

Strategy Leave as is or add dowel/hanging chain?

Post image

guys I need help lol, I made this for my upcoming show and love it the way it is but I’m worried without a dowel or a tapestry string people won’t know what to do with it.

i dont want to ruin the look by adding a dowel or hanging chain

update: I tried both the dowel and hanging chain and hated them both so it’s being left as is 🖤

Community This sub if full of haters lol

I’ve never posted on here, but always see small business owners getting down voted, or when someone asks anything about crochet the replies are always “crochet is over saturated and you are better off” I’ve never seen an encouraging comment on here 😭 when people ask “would you buy my work” the comments are always really mean and humbling. I’ve literally gotten downvoted for leaving nice comments under people’s work.

This is probably getting taken down because it has nothing to do with business, but I wanted to share

Pattern Creation & Sales My patterns dashboard feedback

Post image
0 Upvotes

Not sure if it's the right community but maybe it is. I am crochet master myself and also a developer. At the moment I'm working on a dashboard for a private list of created patterns by the user. And I need some feedback. The ui displays title, description, hooks sizes and yarn needed for the pattern. The images are not yet supported. What do you think? I'm interested in your feedback.

If it's not the right community for this kind of post, delete it.

Pricing Pricing Advice

Hello everyone! My parents and I have been selling at the same craft fair in the Nashville area for over 20 years. Their crafts have stayed consistent and well priced, while I have struggled to find something to sell that is profitable but, more importantly, I enjoy making. Last year was my first really successful year with some crochet chicken plushies (not the chenille ones), so the pricing is set on those, but this year I am trying to branch into some handwoven beaded pieces. Pricing for these on Etsy is all over the place, and I don't have a comparison point for them from the show (to my knowledge, no one at the show sells jewelry like this). My question is: what would you be willing to pay for these? My standard for the crochet stuff is double the material cost because I work a full time job and don't need to necessarily make a living wage, but the beaded pieces take more time and are fiddly. I have a mix of earrings, necklace pendants, and brooches so far, and the earring findings will be gold-plated at the very least (I'm a materials engineer and I take metal allergies very seriously).

Obviously these are not on their packaging yet. I tend to take pictures as I make things and more often than not that means pictures from my couch 😊

Online Selling Does anyone from Serbia sell digital crochet patterns on Etsy or Ravelry?

Hi everyone! 😊

I'm wondering if anyone here has experience selling digital crochet patterns (PDF instructions) through Etsy or Ravelry, particularly from Serbia.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could share their experience and explain how the process works, especially when it comes to setting up a seller account from Serbia, receiving payments, and handling taxes as an individual without a registered business.

Is it even possible to start selling digital patterns on these platforms as an individual, without registering a business?

I'd love to hear about your experiences, any challenges you've encountered, and any advice you might have.

Thanks in advance to everyone willing to share their insights! 😊

Strategy Best platform to put up inventory and take custom orders

Hi all, I am new to this scene. My 11 yo has really gotten good at making beaded earrings. She sold some to people in our community at her last market and now they are asking her if she has a website and where they can stay updated with her new designs etc. Do we start thinking about a website? Or an insta account type thing will be enough?

Thank you!
