Can't find a flair for this To quarantine or not to quarantine: please help me decide how to proceed

I bought this yarn at a small town eclectic shop selling everything ranging from internationally made fair trade spoons to consignment purses. The shop had just moved a few doors over from its original location so it was still in a touch of disarray. While I didn’t see any bugs or eggs in it, my husband briefly saw something small, dark, and suspicious in a different yarn so we made excuses to put that one back. I bought these 4 skeins because the owner was so nice and really wanted to get rid of her yarn inventory. I really don’t see anything in them, but I’m eager for reassurance it’s okay to use them or bullying to put them back in the freezer if necessary.

So far they spent a week in the freezer in ziplock bags and have been resting outside for 2 days. Do I wait 5 days and freeze for another week, or is it safe to use?

S/n: these yarn were not touching the one with the black dot but since they recently moved locations one can only assume they’ve all been in contact at some point.

Gift help What’s this? Broken crotchet tool that’s needs identifying before I can buy a new one

Solved Thank you everyone who took the time to reply

Hey guys, my wife broke this thing last night. She is just finishing her crotchet project and is at the stage of attaching all the separate elements

I want to get her a new one but she won’t tell me what this is as she doesn’t want me wasting my day off doing things for her

I obviously just want her to be happy and be able to do some hobbying tonight once the kids are down, and she has always gone and got me whatever hobby supplies I need so it’s only right, and popping to town and back is like 40 minutes of my day tops

Any assistance identifying this would be really appreciated

Can an image like this be used for tapestry crochet? I'll be using the Stitch Fiddle website to convert it to a color-block tapestry crochet.

I'm a beginner! I can’t do a chain stitch, it’s always tight and the hook doesn’t go through, what’s wrong what should i do?

Post image

So the yarn I’m using didn’t have it written what size it is
I tried using different hook sizes I started with 5.00mm then it didn’t work out I tried most of them from 3.00-6.00mm and I only got it to work out once with the 3.50mm and it was very tight as well
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
It goes through with one chain stitch then doesn’t work out with the rest
I made sure to check that the knot isn’t too tight on the hook and there is a gap

Looking for suggestions Should I add a border to this tapestry? If yes, which colour?

Post image
• Upvotes

Note: ignore the curling and some uneven edges. That'd be fixed when I block it

Should I add a simple slip stitch border to this tapestry?

And if yes then what colour? Red seems like an obvious choice but the bottom edge of the tapestry is black. Which means the black part would have a red border too. Would that look odd?

Orr should I just leave it as it is and not add a border

I also thought of adding a border only on the right and left edges (no border at top and bottom). Never done that before and never seen it either sooo not sure if it will look weird

Gift help Hoping to make an amigurumi crochet brain for my treatment team

• Upvotes

Hi there,
I have been having ECT for bipolar for nearly 2 years. I’m finishing up treatment in a couple of months. I’ve been looking for a pattern of an amigurumi brain I can make for the clinicians involved in my treatment, but all the patterns I can find are either AI or don’t actually look like brains.

Does anyone have any pattern recommendations?
Thank you so much!

Crochet Related Pain (OUCH!) what can be done about my arthritic hand pain when crocheting?

i'm a relatively fast crocheter, i recently switched from working with acrylic to natural fibres only.

i'm having an absolutely horrendous arthritis flare up, mostly in my hands and wrists. it definitely gets worse with prolonged crocheting, to the point i am having to take breaks every 15 minutes or so now.

i have tried breaks (as above), stretches, changing my tension, and i tried to switch from knife to pencil grip but i just couldn't get the hang of it. nothing seems to be working! 😔 the pain is only getting worse.

i will be devastated if i have to give this up. i also have severe depression, and crochet is one of my only joys in life at the moment. i know it sounds so dramatic, but i really do feel like i'll have almost nothing to enjoy if my crafts are taken away from me. plus, i'm only 26. most people i hear of who have to give up their hobbies due to arthritic pain are much older than me.

have any of you lovely people been in my situation and found a helpful solution?

ps: i am going to go to the doctor about this, as well. i'm just looking for any practical advice in the meantime. i don't want to be hooked on painkillers if i don't absolutely have to be.

Amigurumi help I need an opinion please. I'm crocheting a fairy doll and I made the legs pretty well I think but I'm afraid the arm might look too comical and ridiculous

So I'm crocheting this fairy doll and I was using a pattern but I didn't like the way the legs and arms looked because they were just straight tubes so I made my own legs which I think turned out pretty well and then I tried to make my own arm but I think it might be too comical and ridiculous looking but I'm not sure it's supposed to be a fairy doll. Anyways I'm going to attach the picture of the arm next to the part of the body I got finished but I'm not quite done with yet. Anyways your opinions would be great thank you so much for your help and if you have an opinion on what I should do instead that would be great too thank you

How do I... How do I cleanly attach the strings to the neck ring and prevent them from revealing the chest?

I would like to recreate the top. I assume the strings are simply slip stitch. However how do I cleanly attach them to the metal ring. I was thinking of just tying the strings but it’ll just look messy and chunky. What would you recommend?
Also do you think there’s a way to prevent the strings falling on the chest from moving and peaking etc? Or should I just leave them hanging?

To frog or not to frog Does the colour pattern blur the waffle stitch or am I looking too far into it?

Post image
37 Upvotes

I’m making an iPad case for a Christmas gift and my friend loves yellow, pink, and orange. So this yarn is perfect!! I had my heart set on doing it in a waffle stitch but now that I’ve actually done a few rows I feel like the pattern/texture is kind of drowned out by the colour-shift.

I’m honestly just looking for people’s opinions because I have a terrible habit of looking at things for too long and getting it in my head.

EDIT: thanks everyone! I’m gonna frog and do a moss stitch instead. As for the waffle stitch I just followed a random YouTube tutorial (good chance I did it wrong 😂)

hi all! i finished my first tapestry crochet, it’s a bit smaller than i thought it would be, i was hoping it would be blanket sized but it’s not, still debating adding a fleece backing and was wondering what other people did with odd sized pieces like this?? also wondering how i should go about blocking something like this to make it a little bit more even and lay a bit more flat.. i only have a small blocker for granny squares. its 132 stitches across and 200 rows, its made with caron one pound yarn 100% acrylic yarn. thanks!

Gift help Why is my blanket more of a diamond then a square shape?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hiii! Looking for some advice for a baby blanket I’m making for a friend. It’s meant to be a square shape and it’s definitely more diamond/rhombus ish. I’ve counted my stitches for every row (and I think most have only gone up one stitch on each side, so two per row?), i am using the same type of yarn just in a different color, and using the same hook size.
I am planning to do one more rotation of the colors and then a border around the edges of light blue and then a thin line of the tan. ((I’m undecided bc I’m not sure how big to make a baby blanket lol))

Help to find a pattern Looking for 3d xmas tree amigurimi pattern that is not ai

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m trying to find a 3d xmas tree amogurimi pattern, hopefully a big version so like 8 inches tall. US Terms.

It would be great if the size was adjustable to be fair.

I was hoping to find a full kit but couldn’t anywhere online. So now looking for a pattern and can buy the yarn separately.

I’ve seen a few on etsy but can’t be sure if they are ai generated or not. Do you have any recommendations?

Including reference pictures below for the thing I’m looking for that I found in google (not sure if the images are real crochet but just for idea)

Looking for suggestions What colour strap should I make for this bag? Purple or brown?

Have finished the body of the bag and want human opinions on strap colour please! I think I'm leaning towards purple as it's purple where I join.

Would purple and brown stripes work if I can't decide?

Thanks in advance ☺️

I'm a beginner! Failed at a Ribbed HDC but it's cute! Does this stitch have a name?

Hey CrochetHelp,

I started making a hat pattern and my crochet-mentor accidently wrongly explained HDC and I've been doing it wrong this entire time but it's cute as hell? Is there a name for the stitch I'm doing in case I want to share it with others?

Pattern: foundation row of 50, chain 1 and turn

50x HDC blo, chain 1, turn, repeat until it wraps around my head.

It's a ribbed pattern, however, I've been pulling through early on my HDC. I am:

Yawning over, blo, yarning over, and pulling all the way through (missing the yarn over after pulling through).

The stitch is the same height as a single crochet, but it makes a cute herring bone on the top and back of the stitch. Stabbing into the blo on each line doesn't pull the >>> apart and the >>> are raised. See picture.

Does this stitch have a name? Inverted single crochets in back loop only?

How do I... Filet crochet - How do I develop a text based design?

Hello! I am looking for tips and tricks and resources for designing my own text based filet crochet pattern. I’ve found lots of tutorials for following patterns, using stitch fiddle to “draw” patterns, and of course many “letter” templates on Pinterest. But i haven’t found any tutorials for how to actually conceptualize a text based pattern. I’m getting confused on how to draw it out - do people just only use block letters? Is it unrealistic to try a script? I don’t understand how you take all the individual letters from a resource and finagle them onto stitch fiddle to write actual words. Do text based designs have to be huge?

Hopefully this makes sense!

How do I... Circular spiral blanket that I eventually want to be rectangular (bad drawing included)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was just asking to see if this was possible? I have a 3 color spiral that I started as 3 double crochet of each color into a magic ring and then gradually increased. I was wondering if there would be a way I could eventually make the spiral a rectangle? Or put a boarder around it without disconnecting the yarn? (It’s the stupid fuzzy yarn that sheds so it’s a literal nightmare) I have a terrible photo I drew as I’m not home rn

Discussion Anybody have issues thinking of something to make for themselves? What have you made for yourself that you love?

I am very motivated to make things for others. I just finished a stretch of gifts for birthdays and I need something else to work on for my sanity... Maybe something for me. But of course I am drawing a blank.

What have you made for yourself that you love?

I’m currently working on making a houndstooth sweater for myself. However I have reached a join in the yarn and it sticks out like a sore thumb. How do I fix it? It’s so small I can’t weave it in but noticeable. Not going off a pattern just free ballin it 🫣

Also, doubting my color choices 😂. Was supposed to be giving caramel fall vibes but idk it’s kinda lookin like poo poo vibes haha.

Looking for suggestions How do I make this blanket not look like a carpet?

Thumbnail

Currently making a blanket to gift for Christmas but ran out of the original yarn I was working with, so I bought the same type of yarn in a different color to finish the blanket off but every design I think of reminds me of a carpet style

If there's a design I could do without unraveling the majority of the blanket I would love a suggestion, or if I should just do the "Carpet Chic" design and hope for the best, ofc I'll give examples
