DISCUSSION Clayface is everything Venom should have been

Loved this movie. It's such a shame Sony couldn't bring themselves to fully buy into the horror elements and violence. It's a staple of Venom as a character but not something you think of when Clayface comes to mind, and yet their approach with Matt Hagan & the character were done so well. While Clayface wasn't exactly the grotesque body horror we were promised and I actually think they could have gone FURTHER with the gore/violence and some of the body horror elements, I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out and I hope it serves as a way we can get more of this type of thing going forward. (SWAMP THING DIRECTED BY ROBERT EGGERS PLEASE!)

Sidenote: The Venom comparison is actually kinda funny, I remember last week several people comparing the DCU and it choosing to use obscure characters to Sony's failed Spiderverse...for those of you who did, you should be embarrassed.

Just watched the movie the other day, and had a blast! Had some good body horror for the alloted budget the movie had, and oh boy did Tom Rhys Harries deliver

I just HAD to draw my favorite shot of the entire thing, wanted to capture the utter dread and internal rage this specific shot of Hagen was feeling as he lay powerless at that bed. Hope you guys enjoy this work of mine

DISCUSSION Hot Take: The DCU has more of a comic booky feel and really amazing consistency and diversity in terms of its visual style and unique design in just two years than the DCEU ever did in a decade, in my opinion.

CRITIQUE I’m tired of these people asking for so little

Legitimately, I feel like Vaas from Far Cry and how I see the same thing over and over again from a fan base that wants to see a “vision restored” when said vision left creative talent broken, audiences isolated and fan discourse in a toxic place when what James Gunn is offering is a more sustainable way to create a DC universe for causal audiences and fans to engage with and for 2 years now has been delivering more consistency and clear sense of direction for the universe than the old DCEU did that it has to make one wonder why would they even bother with restoring a dead universe that was running on gas and in the long term (something very important for those at Skydance) wouldn’t be worth the hassle

I’ve moved on and I those Snyderverse obsessives do to because that mindset poisons your soul and ruins the fun for everyone around you and at the end of the day that sense of wanting to bring people to together is what entertainment is about

DISCUSSION James Gunn promotes 'Clayface' and wishes a happy anniversary to Matt Hagen, who debuted in DETECTIVE COMICS #298

Post image

It’s one thing to watch someone become a monster, but another to feel everything that person is losing along the way. Tom Rhys Harries gives an astounding performance in Clayface, bringing an emotional weight to the horror in a way that feels incredibly personal. Happy anniversary to Matt Hagen, who debuted in DETECTIVE COMICS #298.
