Discussion All Star Year?
If Duncan Robinson keep playing this way and The Pistons remain the #1 seed, I think he'll get voted into the all star game this year

Not only are we 3-0 vs their 0-3 we literally blew them out in our last 3 matchups 😭 big recency bias going on in this matchup predictor 👎🏾.

Shooting 53% from deep to start the season

Duncan Robinson has been Detroit’s second-leading scorer behind Cade Cunningham, averaging 19.7 points, 2.3 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. And Robinson couldn’t have asked for a better start from beyond the arc.
With Jalen Duren sidelined for at least the next two weeks with a right hamstring strain, and Ausar Thompson recovering from a right ankle sprain, Robinson sustaining his strong start will be vital to weathering those injuries.
It could also be a determining factor in how successful Detroit can be this season.

I think underrated roster moves the Pistons made from last season to this season is replacing three rotation players with players that fit the big three's game better. The players this season are generally younger than last year outside of Reed while providing skills that fit better and cover more weaknesses of the big three. Huerter has more in season potential than Levert and showed he can shoot better in the past. Collins is younger than Harris, more athletic, better rebounder, and can shoot better. Reed is just overall more offensively skilled than Stewart, and the drop off from defense is modest for a backup big. Plus, all three are on better contracts. These are all upgrades, in my opinion. Plus, if Joe continues what he did on OKC, that would be the cherry on top.

Whether you’re a fan of him or not, Ron lets you run the same kind of defense you get from Ausar. You can put him on the opponent’s top scorer and strand him one-on-one with almost no help. Just look at Jaylen Brown tonight.
Moving him means you’re completely reliant on Ausar alone.

I couldn't believe that we pulled that one out! That was such a fun game!
As always, here are the websites I take the screen grabs from.
https://hoopsjunkie.io/games/2026-10-25/det-vs-phi
https://www.nba.com/game/det-vs-phi-0022600117/game-charts
I found this website https://databallr.com/ and I'll use this to identify trends as we get into the season.
Duren, Ausar, Embiid, and Edgecomb all were out tonight. Collins left late in the 4th after he hit heads with Maxey going after a loose ball. We will probably see more Tolu and Okorie against the Knicks on Tuesday. Also Joe went out early after landing on his backside. Hope he's ok. We played down 4 guys by the end, and still pulled it out. We've got some serious depth.

The Pistons took a big lead and kept it. Which is what they did against Miami, but I was concerned with the firepower of PHI. And we did it without the players mentioned above. I have too much PTSD from watching LeBron all my life. His 25 points in the 4th Q in the playoffs in what 07 (?) still lives rent free in my mind. Anyway, we did it!
Here are the Insights from the Game:

The DRTG was in the 89th percentile, meaning that in the season so far, they did better than 89% of all games this season. Basically, good defense tonight.
ORB% was 83rd percentile. Without Embiid we were able to rebound well. Look at the lineup combos. We played "small" with Collins playing the 5 a lot. Reed was obviously impactful, but playing small seemed to be a concious choice because A) No Embiid, and B) Tolu Smith doesn't seem to be ready for more minutes but what do I know. Collins is the story of the game for me. And Robinson just hitting everything. We're so good man. Anyway.
Here are the lineup combos that played more than 2:30mins.

That -62.5 was at the end of the 1st Quarter. That first group seemed to be our best group tonight. Jenkins brings a crazy defensive energy and the offense flows so well with Collins and Robinson flying around. They guarded JB very well. He went 5/20 with 16 points. I'll address this more later.
Compare those comps to the rotations below:

We came out of the gate in the 2nd half slow and allowed them back into it. It was cool to see Okorie to get like a minute. It was not cool to see him getting pressed right away and stall out a possession. But hey he got in the game, that's cool!
Here is the Shot Chart for the Pistons:

I think the key here is that we went tot he hoop 28 times. This is probably due to no Embiid, but also pushing the ball up the floor.
We went 14/34 from 3 and they went 7/27. (Box score from https://www.nba.com/game/det-vs-phi-0022600117/box-score )
So when I sat down after the game was done I was expecting to have a lopsided fastbreak score towards us. But it's not.

Here at the bottom, we only went 3-8 on Fast Breaks. They beat us in FB points, Pts off TOs, and in the Paint.
The story of this game really just boils down to the fact that without Embiid, we got the ball inside, and kicked it out and hit our 3s. Crazy. It doesn't feel like they outscored us in all those situational scores except 2nd chance points.
We had 15 ORB and they had 9.
I need to go to bed. I was hoping that this website https://hoopsjunkie.io/games/2026-10-25/det-vs-phi#shot-charts would be updated with matchup details before I was done. But they're not. Maybe when we start playing teams a 2nd time I can come back and look at how we matched up with them.
And finally, from u/Mtommy in a previous post who asked:
I think an interesting stat to track would be how many 3s our opponents shoot against us relative to the number of 3s they shoot against the rest of the league. I feel like we are forcing teams to take a lot of 3s because they can’t get into their offense. We look very strong in that regard.
Philly against us went 7-27 or 25.9%
Philly against NYK went 11-40 or 27.5%
Philly against CLE went 7-28 or 25%
Philly against MIL went 19-44 or 43.2%
So far, in a very small sample size, we held Philly to their least amount of 3s in the season.
Boston against us went 17-42 or 40.5%
Boston against NYK went 15-39 or 38.5%
Two games is too small to determine anything (so is 4 but whatever).
Miami against us went 15-51 or 29.4%
Miami against MIN went 8-33 or 24.2%
Miami against CHA went 13-35 or 37.1
This will be an interesting thing to track, especially as the sample size increases. Maybe the more interesting thing is how we shot against those 3 teams.
Vs Boston 15-40 or 37.5%
Vs Miami 18-38 or 47.4%
Vs Philly 14-34 or 41.2%
We haven't had a cold night yet. I would wager that the reason that we shot only 34 3s tonight was due to the injuries on guys.
Anyway, I need to go to bed. Leave your questions and thoughts and I'll come back to them if I remember and we can see how the team develops over time. The more games that we play the more in-depth we can get (because more data!).
Another good night. Go 'stons!

What a shame. He'd looked good this year and just horrible luck. I don't know what the treatment is, maybe a steel on but I hope he comes back strong next year. Paul George did.
Don't watch the injury. His ankle just snapped.

It’s been 6 years and 3 playoff series, and I think I just gotta accept that’s just part of Cade’s baggage. The spacing issue has kinda been resolved in this early season, but we still see him being kinda careless with the ball. I think teams are figuring him out with the double team which he struggles passing out of sometimes. I don’t know, maybe we do really need another secondary playmaker or scorer. What are your guys opinion?
