QUESTION Looking for a pickup recommendation for a Burny RLC-70 LP (Somewhere between a PAF and a JB?)
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a bridge pickup recommendation for my Burny RLC-70 Les Paul. So far, I’ve tried two pickups on opposite ends of the spectrum:
- Stock Maxon VH-1 (PAF style): Great tone, cool vibe, but just way too low output for what I need.
- Seymour Duncan JB: Plenty of output, but pretty compressed. My main issues with it are that it has way too much harsh treble bleed / top-end fizz, the low end feels a bit loose, and the note definition isn't quite where I want it to be.
I've realized I'm looking for a middle ground between the stock PAF and the JB—specifically something with strong low-mids and mid-range punch.
I primarily play metal, but more on the dynamic, tone-focused side of things (bands like Converge, Russian Circles, Elder, Tool, etc.).
Does anyone have a solid recommendation that fits this description?
Only constraint: No DiMarzio recommendations, please! I'm looking for traditional screw/slug polepieces to match the visual vibe of the stock neck pickup (ruling out hex polepieces).
Thanks in advance!
