Discussion Why am I not getting any Wishlists on my Steam Game?
Hey guys, I'm Mark a solo developer of my game Makoto Maze (2d psychological horror), I recently shared a short footage of my game and got over 53 upvotes. A lot of people tell me my game looks good and creepy, that they like the scribbly hand-drawn vibe and that it is somewhat interesting. Yet, in 10 days, I got like 40 wishlists? I want to release a public demo during the Steam Scream V showcase, but my build is still getting approved... Is 40 wishlists good? Is it bad? This is my FIRST TIME EVER trying to release something... I made the trailer myself, used some copyrighted music (yikes) cause I couldn't really afford someone for my initial ideas lol.
Am I not getting wishlists because the trailer is bad? The capsule images are not good enough? Are the screenshots too vague or are they perhaps too raw?
I genuinely need some feedback on that, please be bruttaly honest lol.
This is the Steam Page of my game I'm talking about: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5373100/Makoto_Maze/
I am also including some images from the game so you can immediately see the vibe..

I'm building a deep-sea "saturation diving" simulator game, with some subtle horror elements like this! Thought it looks really cool and just wanted to share it with some one:)

I've been working on this horror game for a while and I'd love honest feedback.
Amiss, first-person anomaly horror in an endless Soviet apartment block.
You step out of the elevator and look for anything wrong. Notice something? Go back. All normal? Walk on. Made a mistake and you're sent back.
Feedback welcome, especially on whether the anomalies are readable at a glance.

Discussion Sharing some of the artwork my boyfriend drew for my game, Who Am I
When I first started making my game, I had absolutely zero art skills, so I had no choice but to use AI to generate the images.
Honestly, I was never really happy with them.
Still, I was in a rush, so I released the demo using an AI-generated image for the mirror interaction scene.
But now I have a boyfriend! A boyfriend who is an amazing artist!
So, we came to an 'agreement' of $20 per piece, and he is currently working on the new art.
For the official release, I plan to remove the AI images entirely and replace them with his hand-drawn artwork.
Here is a sneak peek at one of them!
It's still a work in progress, but it looked practically finished to me, so I already paid him.
We still have a few more pieces left to go.
Thank you, boyfriend!
What do you guys think of this drawing?
My boyfriend is super curious to see Reddit's reaction, so I decided to post it here!

Player Death Update
Hello fellow horror game enthusiasts!! This is my Horror multiplayer game The Grim Crew. I'm so excited to finally be starting work on the Death Update. This is where death changes things.
No more sitting around watching your living teammates explore and have all the fun.
This week I've been working on player tombstones, which display the dead player's name. Living teammates can collect their belongings and bring them back to the ship, keeping them safe until that player comes back to life.
Dead players will also be able to explore the levels and discover special ghost only areas that living players can't see. These hidden locations will contain strange surprises, lore, and cosmetic unlockables.
However, if a dead player gets caught by the Reaper, they'll be dragged off to Ghost Jail, where they'll have opportunities to escape. Alternatively, they can relax and watch their living teammates explore on the giant TV screen.
The goal is to make death an entirely different experience, giving players something interesting to do rather than simply waiting to be revived.
I'm looking forward to sharing more as the update progresses.
Would you watch the TV or try to escape? Whats a death mechanic you really enjoyed from a game?
Id love feedback, and feel free to check out my page if this interests you :)

My psychological horror game is 50% off for Steam Scream Fest V!
Hey everyone! I released my indie psychological horror game, Panic Files: Buried Sanity, about a month ago, and it's now 50% off during Steam Scream Fest V!
It's a short, 1-hour first-person horror game designed to be played in one sitting. So if you're interested in indie horror games for Halloween, here is mine.
You start your first day working in a local mine, but things take a turn for the worse when the mine suddenly collapses, trapping you underground. After a falling rock knocks you unconscious, you wake up alone with no clear way out.
Your only option is to go deeper into the tunnels and discover why the other miners were so afraid of the depths.
If that sounds like your kind of game, you can check it out here:

Happy Halloween!

What are you looking forward to and why?
I am always looking for new stuff to play, and the community is always the best place to ask. I just finished hellraiser revival, and it has been such a breath of fresh air from AA, but I would love some more stuff to play this spooky season! I have played all of the games published by Torture Star and they are just so fun! I have played all of the mainstream hits like Alien Isolation, Amnesia/Outlast franchise and I am super pumped on ONTOS. Unforgiving a northern hymn and Fear and Hunger are some major highlights for me as well. Ad nauseam - The Wrong side, and Among Ashes are my latest pickups for new games, but has there been anything recently or flown significantly under the radar that is amazing and looks extra special that will rock even a longtime horror fan? I'd love to hear about it!

Video Trying to make a horror game about the dark side of government and society.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The idea for Trox The Reversal came to us during the Russia Ukraine war, especially with how things have been escalating around the world over the past few years.
We started thinking about how far a government and society could go, and what happens when something unthinkable slowly becomes normal.
The game is set in an alternate Soviet reality where cannibalism is legal.
We have a demo available on steam, if you find the premise interesting do check it out.

Unfortunately, all the slots at the Steam Scream Fest are taken by successful games from big-name studios. I'll try to drive traffic to the game from outside the festival. This is my first game—it's inexpensive and currently on sale for 20% off—so maybe someone will be interested!

Free Game Scream Fest V just started! Come check out the demo for my atmospheric horror game Rulebound
Steam Scream Fest V just kicked off, and I wanted to drop in and share the playable demo for my game, Rulebound.
The premise is pretty surreal: you are trapped in the Void, and your main focus is an old CRT TV running a disc-merging game. You spend your time bouncing discs, stacking upgrades, and aiming to forge 3 Golden Discs to escape.
I wanted to make the game as diegetic as possible. There is minimal traditional UI, but every way you interact with it happens directly within the rules of the game world (you are physically operating this old TV in your space). Because of that layout, you have to rely heavily on your eyes and ears to stay alive. Sound design is huge here, and you really need to listen closely for subtle audio cues creeping up on you in the dark. While you are busy managing your score on the CRT screen, entities start invading your room. You have handwritten rules to follow, and if you miss an environmental anomaly or break a rule, your sanity drains fast.
As a side note on the audio: if you play the demo and put on the vinyl record, that’s actually a real live recording of a jazz band we specifically recorded for this game.
I am actually working on a new trailer right now because my current one feels a bit dated, but the actual gameplay loop and atmosphere are in a really good spot. If you like hypnotic mechanics or atmospheric games I would love for you to check out the demo during the event and let me know what you think.
Play the demo here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5057050/Rulebound/

Thanks for taking a look, and hope you all have a good Scream Fest!

Discussion Modern Mascot Horror needs to change
Why is Mascot Horror so bad nowadays.
It's basically just reheating the same nachos every Single time.
How to Make Mascot Horror:
\-add trillion characters for merch potential
\-kill characters off within 2sec of knowing them.
\-make Lore extremely over complicated so Theorist make Videos.
\-no oherent well flowing story, bc Views from Theorist make Game more money
\-have a chase scene (preferably every Minute)
\-evil cooperation
\-cute likeable characters for Money
\-Plottwists that arent plottwists
\-forget everything from previous chapters
\-use popular content creator face ingame
\-evil big bad guy
\-no character attachement(character must die)
\-hinting at big bad stuff at beginning of game
\-make a walking sim with occasional puzzles for "gameplay"
\-make 5 trillion Chapters for Views and Money
\-Deaths
\-make Lore vague occasionally for Theorists
No but seriously why is Mascot Horror just rebranded slop. Not every Mascot Horror is bad, there are good ones, Like: My Friendly Neighborhood, Mr Hopp's Playhouse, Baldi's Basics, Granny.
Modern Mascot Horror is just doing what FNAF & Bendy and the Ink Machine did as It's profitable as Players will get engaged even if the Lore isnt the best same with the Gameplay. And with that Engagement from the Players, they'll ofcourse pay every penny when a new game releases.
If FNAF released today it would be called Slop for how messy the Story is and simple the Gameplay is, just like how Poppy's Playtime is called slop.
Meanwhile FNAF pushes out Merch after Merch making it not scary nor niche, because of mainstream it is with Merch targeted towards Kids like Toys & Plushies.
The best Example for a "perfect" Mascot Horror to this day is 'My Friendly Neighborhood'. It shows what Mascot Horror can be at its core.
Anyway enough ranting

Free Game I made a survival horror game set in 1980s Appalachia. It’s FREE on Steam this Tuesday!

It’s called GRAVE SHIFT, and I’ve spent the last year and a half making it solo. I wanted to mix the tension and dread of survival horror with the unpredictability of a roguelite.
It releases October 27, free on Steam. Hope you enjoy the trailer!
