Discussion Anyone else here grew up playing Gameloft's old Java games?

Post image

I've been playing Gameloft games since the Symbian and Java days. I think the first Gameloft game I ever played was Assassin's Creed, the Java version, if I remember correctly.

I still remember how excited I used to get whenever I found a new game that could run on my phone. Back then, even getting a game installed and seeing it actually work felt like an achievement lol.

Then came games like N.O.V.A., Modern Combat, Gangstar, Asphalt and so many others. It's crazy to think about how much Gameloft was doing with mobile games back then. They were actually making proper single-player campaigns, decent stories, and games that felt like they were trying to bring the console experience to phones.

I know nostalgia plays a huge part in this, but I genuinely feel like something is missing from mobile gaming these days. Phones have become ridiculously powerful compared to what we had back then, yet I still find myself wanting to play those old games more than most of the new ones.

And one thing that genuinely makes me happy is seeing the Android community keeping these games alive. People are finding ways to make old games compatible with newer Android versions, fixing issues, and getting titles running on devices they were never meant to support. Even seeing old games pop up again on sites like APK Vision brings back so many memories.

Some of these games have been removed from the Play Store, some don't work on modern Android anymore, and others have just been forgotten. So it's pretty cool that there are still people out there who care enough to keep them playable.

I just wish Gameloft would officially bring back some of their older titles. Not remakes filled with microtransactions or online-only bullshit. Just the original games, updated to work on modern phones. I'd happily play through them all over again.

Anyway, just wanted to share this because I've been thinking about it lately.

Anyone else here who started gaming on those old Java or Symbian phones? What was your first Gameloft game? And which one do you miss the most?

New Release I made a silly iOS game where you catch falling babies with pillows

Hey all, solo dev here. Dad Reflex is a quick arcade game: babies drop from the sky and you flick pillows across the floor to catch them.

Your swipe strength sets the pillow speed, so it's all timing and aim.

Miss one and it lands safely on its very full diaper (no babies harmed, just a lot of poop). Then you have to scrub the mess away while still catching the next ones.

There's also a 1v1 online duel mode if you want to compete with a friend.

Would love honest feedback on the flick feel and difficulty. Thanks for checking it out!

I've been looking for a MMO and I came across V & H again and it brought back a lot of good memories from high school. Is it dead? Is there updates still? Anyone else still play? I was deciding between GW reforged and and eterspire. This game I enjoyed because it's more casual and pve focused.

New Release Solo-developed mobile roguelite — Last Signal: Neon Siege

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on my own mobile game, Last Signal: Neon Siege, which I’ve been developing solo using Unity.

It’s a neon-themed survival action roguelite where you fight waves of enemies, upgrade your abilities, and try to survive for as long as possible.

I’ve been putting a lot of work into the gameplay systems and visual atmosphere, and I’m continuing to improve the game. As a solo developer, getting feedback from actual players would mean a lot to me.

I’d especially love to hear your thoughts on the gameplay, visuals, difficulty, and progression system.

🎮 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cankystudio.lastsignal

If you check it out, let me know what you think! Honest feedback and suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks for your time! 🙌

Game Dev Console Like PC Emulator

I built a PC game emulator based on Winlator and JavaSteam. You can just login in your steam account, download the game and play, no other set up needed. You can also play your local non steam downloaded game. Console like seamless experience.

It's still in development, but you can try out the pre-release version on my GitHub repo.

https://github.com/topoftree/Aura

Now it support Patch and Mods, I have uploaded some game patches and Mods to my repo, I will keep update this repo in the future.

My app can automatically pull patches and Mods from this repo and automatically installed them, no setup needed.

New Release I made an arcade game where you slingshot through space to run from the cops

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey mobile gamers, I'm a solo indie dev and I just released my first mobile game Star Bandit. It's a one-finger arcade game: swipe to thrust your ship through space, dodge obstacles, grab stars, and try not to get caught by the space police. Collect enough stars and a wormhole pulls you into a mini-game challenge.

  • Free with no ads
  • Daily heist challenges
  • Galactic leaderboards
  • An optional $1 unlock adds the 50-level heist campaign and endless wormhole mini-games

What I'm most curious about:

  • Do the controls feel good? It should be easy to play with one hand and/or one finger.
  • Is the difficulty fair? It should start easy and gradually grow more difficult.
  • What would make you keep coming back?

It's on both iOS and Android. Thanks for taking a look!

Game Dev 40 hours of starcraft made non gamers measurably better at switching tasks, and that wasn't even the point of the study

• Upvotes

found this one while reading up for something else and it stuck with me. 2013, texas. they took 72 people who had never touched a strategy game and made them play starcraft, about 40 hours over a couple months. half played a version where you manage one base, half had to run two bases at once.

the two base group got noticeably better at what psychologists call cognitive flexibility. basically dropping one problem, picking up another, not losing your place. and they measured this with boring lab tests that had nothing to do with starcraft.

the one base group improved less. so it wasn't "games good", it was "being forced to juggle is good". which tracks with every ranked loss i've ever had tbh

full disclosure, I make a small rts for phones (legion roads, 5 min matches, roman roads, free) so I'm obviously biased here. but i didn't write the study. https://legionroads.com/get/strategygames

Discussion My childhood favorite game (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) finally runs on modern Android! 🕷️

I just found a modernized version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (the original Gameloft game) that actually runs on ARM64 Android devices. This was a huge part of my childhood, and I never thought I'd be able to play it again on a modern phone without an emulator.

It's the original game, but it's been optimized/rebuilt so it doesn't crash or get stuck on newer Android versions. Runs smoothly on my Xiaomi 15T (Dimensity 8400 Ultra + Mali GPU).

I know the game has its flaws, but for me, it's pure nostalgia. Huge props to whoever put in the work to make this playable again. If you grew up playing this game, you know how special this is!

Has anyone else tried it? What's your favorite childhood game that got modernized like this?
