Question 20 years in the creative sector, looking to pivot
Hey hope you're all well. So I've been a freelance motion designer for around 20 years now.
Over the last few years, it's been increasingly more difficult to find work, mainly due to the current economy, and more and more corporate clients favouring AI because it's quicker and cheaper (definitely not better, but unfortunately quality is often an after thought)
Due to being a freelance for so long, I've worn a lot of hats and to twist on an old saying, I'm a Jack of all trades.... Master of some 😄
Some of the roles I've previously covered in the creative sector include:
* Motion graphics and animation
* Graphic design, illustration and print design
* Video editing and colour grading
* Social media content creation and marketing
* Explainer videos
* Brand and UI design
* Creative direction
* Digital producer
* Project management
* Quality assurance
* Creative consultancy
There are certainly advantages to being a freelance. I work from home, as long as I hit deadlines, my time is flexible and I've had the opportunity to work with an amazing range of clients.
The downside however is that I don't have a regular salary, and due to the economy and clients pushing further into AI usage, I'm likely not seen as being incredibly cost effective when charging a day rate.
With the creative industry in flux, I'm feeling a bit lost in regards to the ways I can pivot into more stable career paths, so I'm very keen to get other people's perspectives, especially those also in the creative sector.
**Based on my skillsets, what type of creative career pivot would you make?**
**Would my skillsets suit a different career all together? Open to any suggestions.**
**Has anyone here made a similar sort of career pivot and how's it going?**
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
