Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for “Christmas but not Christmas” Songs

Songs where Christmas is a main theme, but the song isn’t a traditional Christmas song necessarily. Like “merry Christmas please don’t call” by the bleachers or “last Christmas” by wham. Can be any genre and any time period though!

Edit: thanks for all the recs, everybody! I’ll check them all out, and make a playlist of all of them which I’ll link later if anyone wants to use it

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs that orgasm?

Ok stick with me here…

I love a song that starts basic and builds and builds until it hits some big peak. Each verse adds layers of harmony and instrumentation, crescendos, the tension of the song keeps on building until BAM. Some big cymbal crash or key change or octave change, and it slows down and fades away. Gives me goosebumps! The only way I can describe it is…yeah…

Best examples: Rose of Cimmaron by Poco, New Kid in Town by the Eagles, Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band

Looking for soundtracks or songs that were far better than the actual movie they played in. Preferably in the horror/Halloween genre due to the season.

Thanks!

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs about not letting the gossips, rumor spreaders, and bastards get to you?

Bastards and Let 'Em Talk by Kesha are two good examples.

"Don't let the bastards get you down, don't let the assholes wear you out."

"Shake that ass, don't care if they're talking about us!"

"Don't let those losers take your magic, baby."

So i'm petty, i know my partner has been up to no good and instead of crying about it, i want to make him sweat before dropping the bomb because he genuinely believes i dont know and hes fooling me✌️😂 give me some ideas to blast!

Any genre is good, i listen to most and open to new.

Recently got into Vana so anything similar is a bonus! Thanks🫶

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk A variety of songs with different moods, vibes, emotions, and etc. for a writing project

• Upvotes

I'm doing prep work for a creative writing project (for NaNoWriMo, Nation Novel Writing Month) and looking for songs that I can use as inspiration and to reference. Preferably songs that are moderately well-known and written by 2025 (at the absolute latest). I know the flair says Rock/Metal/Punk but suggestions can be almost anything, but Rock/Metal/Punk is preferred because the main character is a 'punk'.

The idea is still a work in progress, but the back cover summary would be something like: "Aedan Jacobs, an orphan about to age out of foster care, gets caught up in a friend's stupid plan to make it big. It goes horribly wrong and Aedan is forced to come face-to-face with the hidden supernatural world beneath the surface of society and the aspects of himself he never even knew he had."

Genre is "Contemporary Fantasy" (specifically, mostly Urban Fantasy). World settings are "Hidden World/Masquerade with (gritty) Techno-magic(ks)". General setting is (likely) Urban North Eastern US (maybe North West/Seattle area, I haven't fully decided but heavily leaning east coast). Protagonist is Aedan Jacobs who is, unbeknownst to him, part-Spirit/"Ghost"; was told his mom died during childbirth by his dad; when he was 5-7 years old [haven't decided might have been younger, definitely not older], his dad left him at a police station and told him that he'd be back for him and then never returned and disappeared [rough idea].

The reason I'm looking for music is that he has an old MP3 player that he fixed/repaired himself that is magical (he doesn't know, obviously) that will sometimes randomly play songs that fit with the mood around him or the actions he's taking.

Current Artists/Songs I have in mind: "Thrice - Image Of The Invisible",
"Patti Smith - Dancing Barefoot",
"Poison Idea - Pure Hate",
"The Damned - The Invisible Man" (and one or two others),
"Green Day - No One Knows" (and probably others, since they're one of my favorite bands),
"Jeff Rosenstock - To Be a Ghost...",
"Pierce the Veil (ft. Kellin Quinn) - King for a Day",
"Pat The Bunny - I'm not a good person",
"Fugazi - I'm So Tired",
"Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device",
"Ten Foot Pole - The Getaway"

Rec.Me: electronic/dance Songs like Massive Attack's "Girl I Love You"

My favourite of theirs among many absolute bangers. The obvious comparisons are Angel and others off Heligoland, but nothing seems to scratch the same itch as Girl I Love You. Would love to hear some recommendations for songs that come close. Thank you!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Looking for specific kind of jam band recommendations

I like the Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, the Band. That sort of era/vibe. But I kind of don’t like Phish, Moe., or other 90s era jam bands. What else is out there I should be putting into the rotation?

Rec.Me: rap/hip-hop Looking for fast rap that doesn't make me cringe, please help!

Aight y'all, I need some breakneck flows that aren't pseudo-republican bullish or white boys rapping over "Emotional Piano Trap Beats" they found on YouTube. No NF, no Gawne, no Crypt, none of that.

I love fast paced verses over aggressive and bassy beats. High energy shit with actual effort and at least a bit of wit behind the words, even if the bars get a little bit goofy. I have tolerance for some rappers who can get a little cringe; had a major Rittz era for a second, and Tech N9ne is still in my top 10. But it can't be artists who are completely skill-less and only know how to rap over one type of beat.

I have a full playlist for right now and here's the list of artists on it:
A-F-R-O

Bad Meets Evil

Bone Thugs N' Harmony

Busta Rhymes

clipping.

Eminem

Hopsin

J.I.D

Jarv

K.A.A.N

Kendrick Lamar

Ludacris

Ludacris

R.A The Rugged Man

Rittz

Ski Mask the Slump God

Tech N9ne

Token

Twista

Watsky

Yelawolf

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Just needing something new

I like the intersection between classic rock and blues but slightly more heavy on the rock and roll. I like the sound of a bottle neck slide. I love fem singers for the most part and when men sing the message plays a big part in whether or not I'll enjoy the song. I also tend to like ethereal wave gothic music and whatever the "Whimsy girls" are listening to. This is a post thats ok to scroll past and not reply to. Im picky asf so I appreciate when a person can just admit when they dont know what to rec just as much as I appreciate a rlly good rec!!!

Can anyone recommend any songs like Heroin? I love how ethereal the instrumental is, and how introspective the lyrics are! I also like how the percussion sounds like clockwork

Rec.Me: electronic/dance [IIL] Songs that have parts with only the kick drum going such as the two minute mark of Alors on Danse by Stromae?

The two minute mark of Alors on Danse by Stromae is so addictive and I know it's really simple which has me hopeful that other parts like it exist

I love that it's just the kick with no other drum parts with the instrumental swaying the back

Any more like this? I'm not picky on a genre right now but to start, something similar to this song would be great

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk music similar to what you find in taylor hawkins and the coattail riders "red light fever" (sort of a recommendation request for this vibe of song)

That one album hit like none other for me in particular "It's Over" and I havent really found anything that matches it. I have heard his other music and it's not quite the same, I am a big foo fighters and nirvana guy so I've heard all those. For that album its something about the hard music switching to a slower rythm and more melancholic lyrics before it kicks up again. The whole album for the most part seemed to follow that motif. If you have anything I should give a try please send it my way.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Metal soundtracks or metal tracks that are horror inspired? Please listen to my linked example song so you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Hey there. This is another post regarding my sci-fi campaign. I'll keep it simple tho.

I need a battle theme for a boss fight, and the boss is one creepy motherfucker with long multi-jointed limbs. Slenderman style.

So I need a fitting track for her. Something like this you know? Something that makes use of piano, scary strings or other kinds of unusual instruments. Something that has clear horror vibes and isn't just hype, badass metal.

I'm not looking specifically for soundtracks, tho. I'm also accepting normal metal tracks. Maybe I can use their instrumentals as the soundtrack for my campaign. For example, I've been eyeing Widower from Make Them Suffer for a while as a possible boss theme candidate.
