General I built a school management platform for Nigerian schools and would love to hear your thoughts

Hi everyone!

I've been working on a project called SchoolOnline, a school management platform designed for primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.

The goal is to make it easier for schools to manage things like students, staff, attendance, fees, and results in one place instead of relying on multiple tools or handling everything manually.

I've been building it for a while, and I'd like to share it with people outside my usual circle and hear what they think.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from teachers, parents, school administrators, or anyone familiar with how Nigerian schools operate. I'd love to know whether you think something like this would be useful, what's missing, or what you would change about the idea.

You can check it out here: https://schoolonline.com.ng/

There's also a demo account available if you'd like to explore the platform and see how it works without setting up an actual school.

Thanks!

Discussion I built a platform to make mental health care in Nigeria easier to access. Sharing in case it helps someone

I've seen a lot of people here complain about how hard it is to access mental health care in Nigeria. Some people believe it doesn't even exist, and others assume it's too expensive to even try.

So I thought I'd share TranqBay Health, something my team and I have been working on. I've never really talked about it publicly, but a lot of people have already gotten help through it.

A few things we were really particular about while building it:

  • Verified therapists. Every therapist on the platform is vetted and properly screened.
  • Fast, simple access. The process of speaking to someone is quick and easy. You can literally talk to a therapist today.

If you're in the diaspora and would like to speak with a therapist in Nigeria, just switch your country to Nigeria using the selector in the top right of the navbar, and you'll see Nigerian therapists. We also operate outside Nigeria, so you'll find options wherever you are.

I'm not sharing this just because I built it. I genuinely believe it's one of the easiest ways to get mental health support in the country right now, and I hope it helps someone out there who's struggling.

If you have any questions, drop them below or DM me. Happy to answer.

Discussion Nigerian Consulate in NYC Sucks!!!

Nigeria happened to me today. I went to the Nigerian consulate in New York to get a new visa (they’ve discontinued use of the private agency that’s been efficiently doing it for years). My appointment was for 1030 AM and I foolishly assumed I’d be done within 30 minutes. I wasn’t called until 1245. About 15 people in the waiting room and only one staffer attending. Several other staff could be seen just gallivanting around. We (visa applicants) engaged in many shouting matches with staff who were concerned that we were using phones while waiting. The whole experience inside that building was 100% Nigeria.

Last time I entered that building was 2005 and I prayed to never come back. Didn’t have a choice today and I pray I don’t have to return there 🤣🤣

General Whatever happens, I’m glad I didn’t waste 2026 just wishing for a better life in Nigeria.

Honestly, I’m proud of myself this year.

One of my biggest goals is to leave Nigeria and start a new chapter somewhere else, and I’ve been taking that goal seriously. I’ve been researching opportunities, looking into possible pathways, comparing options, and trying to figure out how to make the whole thing work for me.

It’s not like I suddenly have everything figured out. I don’t but I can say that I’ve put real time and effort into finding a way forward, and that makes me happy.

Sometimes you can want something for so long that it starts to feel like a distant dream. You talk about it, imagine what your life could look like and keep hoping something will change. I didn’t want another year to go by like that.

So this year, I’ve tried to be more intentional about what I want and what I’m doing to get there.

I’m giving myself credit because I know these things aren’t always easy. It takes effort to keep researching, planning, and looking for possibilities when there’s no guarantee that everything will work out exactly as you hope.

But I’m glad I started, I’m glad I gave this goal my time instead of constantly pushing it to the back of my mind, I still have things to accomplish, but I’m ending this year knowing I genuinely tried to move my life in the direction I want.

The vicarious aspiration is top tier.

That's why some people are naming their kids Porsche, Jeff or Bill but strangely not many Igbo, Yoruba or Urhobo Aliko's or Dangote's.

It be your own people man...

$1,500 to $2,500 per month(1,434830 to 2,391383 naira per month). Thats how much it takes to rent a billboard on this side of Canada. Keeping in mind that this is just one side of the city, imagine how much is being used country wise, and then Canada isnt the only country where Nigerians live, so imagine how much is being pumped into these campaigns.

In the meantime, there are people back home being kidnapped, killed, starved, people without homes and jobs, food and drug quality degrading by the day, terrorist threats still amongst us, and a super El Nino on the way. I have seen this billboard before in my city, but this post reminded me of the rage i felt that day.

Discussion Advice from current nigerian medical school students and doctors about schooling and practicing abroad? US residency

Hello guys i need real advice from people actually dealing with the nigerian medical system currently, please i am starting jupeb at a private university and want to do medicine, my ultimate goal is to practice in the US so that’s my main focus.

Do you think that after a year of jupeb i should try and go to italy to start my mbbs in an english program from the first year or 200lvl here in nigeria btw its a private university

realistically italy has more opportunities that can help and aid one do match better infrastructure and research and clinical electives abroad than nigeria but i want to hear from current students and doctors who also plan to match into us residency what would you do?

i know taking the exams is crucial and everyone in every country can take the exams and pass but that alone is not guaranteed for matching, the research opportunities, networking and just in general italy has a better shot at making one stand out with what you can access.

i need to convince my parents that its a good opportunity because they know nothing about medicine and think stuff like this doesn’t matter and they think i can miraculously practice abroad even if i do my degree here not to say ppl dont do it but im sure its harder.

there’s also now the issue of the 2-5 year wait to get certificate of good standing to leave, it’s obvious they want to trap doctors here and i fear it’ll get worse

its not about the money its the fact i’ve had time off school and im 20 and they just want me to start, italy tuition is even cheaper than the private universities here so its not about that.

i was even thinking after the jupeb i’ll pick a different course aside medicine cus truly i don’t want to suffer and be poor regardless of my passion for it. and honestly i don’t want to spend my 20s suffering in this tinubus nigeria!

if you were me what would you do

News Something we could do about corruption??

I’ll post this r/Africa page as well but I just wanted to share this example of anti corruption action taken by young Serbs. I believe the issues that we deal with in Nigeria are by and large exasperated by the level of governmental theft, nepotism and stark inability to remove leaders. But what if we were to create our own pool of politicians from the ground up. Community members, doctors, school teachers, pastors, nurses etc that we trust and respect, that we implore to run for public office? We created cells and community panels to discuss and debate different potential candidates and present them during elections. Candidates who already have a strong track record within our communities. That we can campaign for ? What would that look like ?

Discussion I am really confused

Hello guys, I’m 22 and just entered the job market and it's just somehow. Completed my MSc two weeks ago and haven’t found a suitable entry-level role yet. What’s really going on? 😂

Why do entry-level jobs require 3–5 years of experience? You see “fresh graduates are encouraged to apply,” only to find out they want professional certifications, proficiency in 15 different software applications and the experience of a senior manager.

Where am I supposed to get experience from abeg?

Anyways, if you have or happen to know someone with an opportunity for me, I’d really appreciate a referral. I have a BSc in Business Administration, an MSc in Economics, and I’m looking for opportunities in operations, supply chain, procurement or administration.

Also, for those who have been through this, how did you land your first decent job? Because this job market is just crazy.

Discussion Calling Nigerian Tailors!! I built a platform to connect Nigerian tailors with diaspora clients (and guarantee you get paid). Looking for 10 founding designers

As someone from the diaspora, I got tired of the hassle of ordering custom clothes back home, but I also know tailors constantly deal with clients who haggle or refuse to pay their final balance. I built Seamesy to fix both. We hold the client's money upfront, so before you even cut the fabric, you know your payment is protected. I am looking for 10 talented outfit makers to test the platform. We are offering a 5,000 Naira bonus to the first 20 designers who fully complete their FREE store profile, upload at least three high-quality portfolio images of their own work, and pass identity verification. In fact, i’ll offer an additional 5,000 Naira to any existing designer who refers another tailor that completes the same vetting process.

Let me know if you want the link by just commenting down below!! I won’t waste a second sending. Lmk your thoughts!!

Edit: Here’s the link actually: https://seamesy.com/join

Once you verify your profile and upload 3 of your best portfolio pieces, I’ll send over that 5,000 Naira setup bonus. Let me know if you run into any issues while getting set up! Also appreciate you sharing to others for the referral!

Culture Weird observation I’ve made after watching many contemporary Nigerian films

I’ve never seen a woman smoke? Even the “wayward” female characters who engage in other activities thought to be vices aren’t depicted smoking on screen. Their male equivalents do. Vaping and smoking alike. This may have zero significance, but after many films it sticks out.

Discussion To catch a predator Nigeria

Im thinking of making a YouTube series called to catch a predator Nigeria, like jidion and Chris Hassen. I am nigerian american, but my friend told me about how she was touched by a man in Nigeria mind you she was his housegirl. I feel young african girls need a voice too and because of how lawless the country is. Im thinking of making a YouTube series in Nigeria to other west african countries, because I HATE PEDOS, and people that take advantage of the weak. This 40 year old man tried to get at me mind you he's old enough to be my father, and he know my mother. What in the pedophilia????. yeah I can only imagine the stuff they get away with in Nigeria. But what do you guys think?
