Could We Get a Sticky Post or Some Rules About "What Boot Should I Buy?"

This question shows up a lot. It's a valid question. Buying ski boots is expensive and daunting. You don't want to mess it up and you want advice from others with more experience. However, there's only one answer to this question: Go See a Bootfitter.

What about "my feet hurt because of ..."? The internet can't really help here. Bootfitting is a trade and a skill that is designed to help you find the perfect boots.

There are almost daily threads about this topic. Each one has the same few comments: "Go see a bootfitter," "I like boot X, but you should really see a bootfitter," "We can't determine without some more info, you should probably see a bootfitter," etc.

On the /r/skiing FAQ, there's an entire section dedicated to this question. I think it would be beneficial to everyone on this sub to include something similar as a sticky or in the sidebar. Thoughts?

What boots should I buy? The only advice you should take online about boots is to go and see a reputable bootfitter. Listen to them and buy the boots that fit your feet correctly. Not only are well fitting boots much more comfortable, but they also give you better control over your skis, the combination of this makes boots the most important part of your equipment.

Choosing a pair of boots doesn’t work like picking a pair of shoes. If you walk into a store or flick through a website and chose the pair you like the look of, you’re going to have a bad time. Each boot manufacturer has a range of boots with options for different abilities, skiing styles, sizes and foot shapes. There are subtle differences across models and brands in terms of shape, so it is crucial to find a pair of boots that are right for you. Without examining the shape of your feet and lower legs and their mechanics, as well as discussing how you ski and your ability, no one can give you a recommendation that is worth listening to. A bootfitter will do all of that and using their expertise they’ll provide you with a range of boots and help you find the best ones for you. They will also be able to help you with any pre-existing issues and injuries and modify boots if required. It is also recommended that you purchase custom moulded footbeds, along with having your liners heat moulded, they will help to optimise the fit of the boot. You also get the added security of knowing that any bootfitter worth their salt will guarantee their work, and be very willing to rectify any issues you have after you’ve skied in your new boots. Rough framework to what a bootfitter does

In Response to the demand for an All Mountain Ski Sticky Post.

This is my (very basic) suggestion for a "flowchart" guide to all-mountain skis. Including a popular ski as an example for every category. Obviously each category has a bunch more skis and most skis are in-between categories or in a whole separate category.

Suggestion welcome, I didn't put too much time into this and it is far from ideal or even functional. Mostly just want to hear peoples thoughts as to how you would approach this.

Advice for ski goggles

• Upvotes

Last year on my ski trip the weather was often super cloudy and I couldn’t really see a lot. I have the feeling my goggle lens was to dark.
Right now i am searching for goggles with a (magnetic) swappable lens so i can have a clear one and one for the sun. I have a set on my mind from the brand hystride for 120€.
Does anyone have experience with this brand or other recommendations? I’m looking for something brown ish to match with my outfit.

need advice on goggles

Of course, like all skiers, I want goggles that won't fog up and have interchangeable lenses for different slope conditions. One option available near me is the Uvex Victorious Pro V in black matte with a red-clear lens, which costs around $150. Is it a good choice, or are there better options in this price range?

Remove back ski binding

Can anyone help me remove this Tyrola 280D rear ski binding? Im making a shot ski. I took the front two screws out of the binding that mount it to the ski but I can't get the back binding. I’ve tried unscrewing the screw in the second picture but it seems to be some type of fastening screw, not an actual screw. I feel like there’s probably a simple latch I’m missing. Any help appreciated.

Is 100mm too wide for me?

I want to start by saying I’m an intermediate skier in the west coast BC who does mostly blues with some blacks and I want to improve over time. I really like the look of the qst 94 but cannot find it for a decent price locally or online in my size (I’m 187cm). Evo has a deal on right now for $449 for the skis but sold out in the 94s at 180cm. I’m really thinking about buying the 100s just because I love the look.

Is it too wide? Any other recommendations?

Stats:
187cm tall
205lbs
Budget $600 max ideally

Thanks in advance!!

Völkl Racetiger SL vs. Rossignol Hero Elite ST ti (Ski Test Erfahrung)

Hello everyone,

I would like to purchase one of the two ski models from the previous year (25/26): Völkl Racetiger SL and Rossignol Hero Elite ST Ti. Do you have any experience reports or recommendations, preferably based on your skiing level? Generally, I want an agile/dynamic ski that grips well on the edge, for short turns and now and then medium radii. How do these models behave throughout the entire day, also in the afternoon when the snow gets a bit looser/softer? Thanks in advance and have a great start to the ski season! (P.S.: size recommendations for 180cm, 80-85kg are also welcome)

Ski pick for a potentially low season PNW

188cm, 70 KG. Intermediate/advanced, meaning I’ll huck myself down pretty much anything and stay on my feet. skiing primarily bachelor and other PNW spots. 180 or 186? also looking at the Nordica enforcer 94. Gonna buy last years model.

I’ve looked at the sub for recs too, if you have any other ideas lemme know. Woodsman 100 is tempting

Best skis for playful all mountain skiing?

So as title goes I need a new pair of skis..

I have used a pair of ON3P Jeffrey for 12 years, yeah, I love them but one of the skis finally broke last year

I love to ski powder, jump on anything that is jumpable and most of all do butters all over the mountain

I also like park skiing and hitting rails but being off pist is definitely the favorite thing to do

I like speed but not really into carving

I'm 176cm / 5f8 and 86kg / 190lbs

I really want a playful ski that I can continue to do butters and just pop off anything, doing big 3s etc

Since I have 12 years of experience on Jeffrey's I think they're playful but I have no idea if they are or if I simply just know them well enough to be playful

Previously I've looked at getting a pair of ARV, but I'm open to anything really, I'm simply looking for a durable ski that is playful

Any and all advice is much appreciated🙏🏼

Ski Boot "Quiver" Heresy?

OK I really only use TWO.. Salomon Falcon plug for more aggressive days and Lange 130 for more casual free ride for more casual days.. mostly.. But I can crank them down and rip too.. just less forward lean. Anybody else run with more than one full time boot? BSL is the same so no ski quiver issues

100ish mm ski for northeast trees and powder

Hello, I’m looking at the Nordica Unleashed 106 CA, the Line vision 104, black crows atris and the kastle zx100. I’m really looking for something fun on powder days that will also hold up in the woods here in the Northeast. I have also skied a Liberty Radian 100, and found that to be a hair stiff in the tail. And a Volkl Revolt 104 and found that way to loose. Do you guys think that these or any other recommendations would be best for me?

Thanks!

Salomon S/PRO SUPRA 120 GW fit

I went to a boot fitter to buy new boots. He took measurements and told me that my foot width requires a HV boot, but since I have a narrow ankle (24.5 cm ankle with a ski boot size of 27.5), I should look at LV or MV options. After trying a few models, I liked the Salomon S/PRO SUPRA 120 GW the most. However, I am now thinking that I should have bought the Salomon S/PRO ALPHA 120, which is an LV (I didn't try them because they didn't have them in the shop). My ankle feels secure in the shop with one buckle position left on the top cuff, and I can still unscrew the ladder to make it tighter. What is the chance that these will end up being too big for my ankle?

For ref I am 185cm tall, 75kg

2025 Head Kore or 2026 Head Kore build?

Thumbnail

I’ve been shopping around for skis for my fiancée for the past month and am considering the 2025 vs. 2026 HEAD KORE W. She’s a beginner who has progressed quickly over the last couple of seasons, so I’m looking to get her a better set of skis that she can continue to grow into.
From what I’ve seen from watching reviews, HEAD moved away from the carbon construction used in previous KORE models and introduced a PET-based construction for the 2026 model. I’ve heard this change was driven by the high manufacturing costs and quality control challenges associated with consistent carbon layups.

For anyone who has actually skied both the 2025 and 2026 KORE skis, how noticeable is the difference on snow?

Can i buy old skis ?

Hi , im new to skiing iv only gone a handful of times . I wanted to finally commit this year i got a season pass and wanted to get my own used skis . Iv seen some people say old ones are bad and other say old skis are okay . I just want to use them for this winter and if i enjoy skiing, I will buy new ones . I just can’t justify throwing so much money on a new hobby that I’m not sure I would love and renting. Seems like its not the best financial choice.
I found, Kneissl ergo & binding Tyrolia SL 100, on facebook maketplace are those good . Does anyone have any advice ??

First pair I bought for myself.
What are your thoughts on these?
Where do yall think I should mount the bindings? Mainly for side hits and jumps. I’m 171cm tall 63kg, skis also 171cm, with plenty of experience in skiing.

Yea... but what if I got shoe size 45.5?

Post image

Looking for new ski socks and found these because they have good reviews on various sources but I'm unsure which size to get. I normally have shoe size 45.5 and mondo point 29.5 on my ski boots. So I'm basically between their size L and XL. Does anybody have these or know their sizing good enough to recommend me a size?

Lens colour for every day cloudy flat light conditions

Hi I'm looking at getting some Smith goggles (probably the 4D MAG or others in the MAG line). Anyways, I'd like to get opinions on the best lens colour for everyday cloudy conditions flat light. And if they work well in fog and storms, that's a bonus.

So it sounds like it's going to be the Chromapop Storm in either 1) Yellow Flash 2) Rose Flash, or 3) Blue Sensor Mirror.

Why Smit? B/C they are the best fit for my big (high bridge) nose.

I'd love to hear your experience with those colours in those conditions.

Ski layers

Is The North Face Summit Breithorn jacket a good skiing mid layer (over a base layer and under a shell jacket)?
