Discussion After Brand New Day, do you still think it’s possible that we might see the Hobgoblin—linked to Dafoe’s Norman—in the future?

Post image

Can we talk freely about Brand New Day now? It seems so—but if not, let me know.

Anyway, after watching Brand New Day, do you still think it’s possible they might introduce the Hobgoblin as the successor to Raimi’s Norman Osborn?

That was the most popular theory following No Way Home: that the Hobgoblin—whether it’s Ned, Kingsley, or someone else—would emerge as the successor to Dafoe’s Green Goblin, becoming obsessed with his actions in NWH, stealing his gear, and declaring himself the new Goblin to torment Spider-Man.

But honestly, in light of Brand New Day, that theory really falls apart.

For starters, there’s absolutely no indication that the Department of Damage Control is in possession of the items left behind by the villains from No Way Home. It’s never mentioned in the film, in interviews, in behind-the-scenes material, or even in the art book—and since five years have passed since that battle, it’s impossible that such items wouldn’t be on their radar.

(Even though there were rumors that we might see these objects, other users familiar with the world of leaks confirmed that those rumors were 100% false; they were never even under consideration.)

Secondly, the film seems to imply that everything surrounding the *No Way Home* multiversal event—much like Peter himself—has been forgotten.

Beyond the point about Damage Control, MJ/Jean explicitly mentions that her last memory of Spidey is from Prague, which means all recollections of the events of *NWH* have been erased. The same goes for Ned; he acts as if he never collaborated with Spider-Man or had any close connection to him.

When Peter talks about what happened in *NWH*, he is very careful not to mention anything regarding the multiverse. Even when he speaks about May’s death, he does so calmly, accepting that the blame lies entirely with him. ...completely omitting his actual killer.

Even in the only newspaper clipping that mentions the three Spider-Men, it’s framed as a rumor; according to the people interviewed, they only saw the Spider-Men throwing objects at each other—they didn’t even think they were fighting anyone else.

What does this imply? It seems the MCU has completely ignored the existence of these villains. There’s no record of them from the last five-plus years, and the only person who remembers them is Peter—who doesn’t even seem to care anymore.

Unless they pull a major retcon in future installments—claiming that the Green Goblin is as well-known to the public as Thanos—it’s hard to believe that someone like Kingsley could just stumble upon Goblin gear (which neither Damage Control nor anyone else managed to find in nearly half a decade) and decide to carry on the legacy of a guy who only existed in this world for a few hours before vanishing without a trace. For that matter, no one should even know he was a "Goblin" in the first place.

I don’t know—I wouldn’t rule out seeing the Hobgoblin in the MCU’s future, but it would either have to be completely disconnected from the events of *No Way Home* (like in the 90s animated series, where the Hobgoblin appeared before the Green Goblin and the two had no connection), or they’ll simply create an MCU-specific version of Norman/the Green Goblin, from whom the Hobgoblin could then emerge.

Which, honestly... I think is the more likely scenario.

But what do you all think?

Discussion Clarifying an important detail of the Black Cat rumor about Alex P

Post image
• Upvotes

Is it true that Sony is planning a Black Cat spin-off and doesn't want to connect it to the MCU? Well... no.

For starters, this rumor comes from insider Alex Perez—a source who frequently wavers between being reliable and being quite notorious.

Furthermore, many of the tweets discussing this are poorly phrased, making it sound as though he claimed a Black Cat spin-off—separate from the MCU and in the style of the "Sony-verse"—is currently in the works.

The reality is quite different.

According to the Q&A session where this originated, he was asked whether there were any plans to include Felicia in a future Spider-Man project (specifically within the MCU).

Alex responded that Sony had long considered the idea of bringing Black Cat into live-action—distinct from the MCU—but noted that he hasn't heard anything further about that concept since then.

What does this mean? Honestly, nothing that wasn't already known.

The idea of a Black Cat spin-off has been around for a long time—dating back to the "Amazing Spider-Man" era, including the "Black Cat and Silver Sable" project that was ultimately canceled.

However, the fact that there has been no further news on the subject suggests—much like what the Sony CEO has already indicated—that there are no live-action spin-offs currently in development, especially following the disaster that was the SSU (Sony's Spider-Man Universe).

In short, what Alex Perez meant is that Felicia’s situation is the same as that of any other supporting character in the Spider-Man universe: there was an initial desire to capitalize on the character with a spin-off, but the idea was eventually scrapped. Everything related to it remains in limbo until Sony decides what to do with its cinematic spin-off franchise.

So no, there is no Black Cat project, and no, Sony won’t be returning to live-action spin-offs either—at least, not for the time being.

Discussion I don’t think Marvel should introduce the symbiote in Secret Wars

With Secret Wars approaching, a lot of people are speculating that Peter could receive the symbiote in the MCU. Personally, I don’t think it makes sense to introduce it yet.

Peter has only had one film where he truly came into his own as Spider-Man. Giving him the symbiote just a movie later would feel rushed, especially because the symbiote storyline is one of Spider-Man’s most important arcs. I think Peter would benefit from having a few more films focused on developing his identity and growth before Marvel moves on to something as major as Venom.

If Marvel does introduce the symbiote in Secret Wars, I would rather see Holland wear the suit for an entire film and gradually develop a relationship with it. The symbiote could eventually sacrifice itself to save Peter, making it seem as though it has died. However, it could secretly leave behind another symbiote that later becomes Carnage.

If Andrew Garfield returns in Secret Wars, he could also be the one to host the symbiote, allowing him to team up with Holland’s Spider-Man while setting up Carnage for the future. That would give Marvel time to explore the angle they have already set up with Peter’s powers and mutation, while also having a symbiote antagonist without simply repeating Spider-Man 3.

That said, I honestly think it would be better if Marvel did not introduce the symbiote in Secret Wars at all. The studio could develop the storyline across several films, allowing Peter and the symbiote to form a bond, giving Marvel enough time to create a proper Venom adaptation.

What do you think? Should the symbiote appear in Secret Wars, or should Marvel wait?

Meta Did you know that there was an actual real and official Spider-Man themed haunted house based on the 1993 "Maximum Carnage" storyline at Universal Studios during Halloween Horror Nights in October 2002? Well, these photos all originate from it!

So, earlier this morning, I just discovered that there was apparently an actual real and official Universal's Islands Of Adventure Halloween Horror Nights XII haunted house that was based on the famous "Maximum Carnage" comic storyline from 1993 that was hosted at the park in Orlando, Florida all the way back in October 2002 that I didn't even know existed until I did some more research on it. What you're seeing here is a bunch of real and historical photos that were taken at the event by the park-goers that have been given upscaled resolution that have resurfaced on the internet for all to see that I had managed to get my hands on to bring awareness of this event from the early 2000's to everyone's attention here so we can all know about this thing. And before anyone asks, NO, none of this is/was AI-generated, it's all real footage taken by people who had gone there with their cameras with upscaled resolution added to it which I found on Google while looking this and the information about it up.

The plot of this event, from what I found out, was that it had taken place in a dark alternate timeline from the main Marvel universe in which our favorite crimson and black symbiotic serial killer and supervillain, Carnage, had murdered all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe (i.e. Captain America, Wolverine, obviously Spider-Man himself, ect), and he, along with other Marvel villains like Scream, Mephisto, Xorn, and Crossbones had taken over the park. The event had taken place behind Doctor Doom's Fearfall, and the maze inside it had a lot of chain-link fences and industrial corridors. However, it had drawn a lot of controversy for displaying a lot of Marvel heroes lying dead on the floor in violent ways, and reportedly, Marvel executives, after discovering all of this, and noticing the very dark tone of all of their heroes dying by Carnage's hands, and all of the events horror elements, had gotten so furious at Universal that the park had never used any Marvel characters for Halloween Horror Nights ever again as Marvel prohibited them from ever doing so as they feared that young kids seeing dead superheroes there would severely damage their brand, though, all of that last part is just a rumor, and hasn't been proven true to this day.

I'm absolutely shocked and amazed that something like this was a real thing! I can only imagine what it was actually like going there during HHN XII as a park-goer at the time, and snapping pics of all of these historic photos there. I kinda wish that something like this, or and updated version of it would happen again in the modern era so a new amount of people can experience this for themselves, honestly. It'd definitely be a blast to do so! I absolutely love the costumes for Carnage and Scream, I think that they had a lot of cool details and were really accurate to the comics, too!

What do you guys think about all of this? Are you just as stunned as I was that this event existed? What are your thoughts on the whole concept of such a thing? Would you have liked to go to this thing back in the day to see it for yourself? Why is that?

Video Games Anyone else just not like the PC/Dreamcast models for Spider-Man 2000?

Post image

There are a few where the PC/DC models are definitely better like with Black Cat or Peter Parker, but other than that I’d definitely choose the PS1/N64 models over the higher-res ones.

Venom looks too constantly malicious, Spidey’s eyes are too far apart, Rhino is just… off-putting, and Carnage looks way too happy and optimistic.

What do you guys think? Which version do you prefer?

Is it just me, or is this image kinda creepy. I get what Steve Ditko was trying to do, but it’s just unsettling to look at. I first saw this image when I was a kid. At the time, I had a fear of burglars. No one ever broke into my house, I just had a fear of them for some reason. Like I said, I get what Ditko was trying to do. But those dots in Spider-Man's eyes just creeps me out. And it still does.

Discussion Does Peter need a family?

Thumbnail

While I do agree with the want of Peter and MJs relationship/marriage to return(although I’m not opposed to him being a “lone wolf” since MJ’s character has been assassinated), I don’t entirely agree with him needing a family.

I’ve seen people use Superman, Batman and even Wally west as an example but I honestly don’t think that really matters. Peter isn’t any of those characters, just because they have families doesn’t mean he needs one or that his comics will be better from it.

Realistically what purpose would his kids serve?

Being attacked or kidnapped by villains constantly?

Adding to the already large number of spiderpeople and just fade into the background?

Being trained by Peter even though he’s NEVER going to retire?

Being killed by villains?

Just existing without much purpose?

It just seems… unnecessary? Like what would be the point. When it comes to Peter’s children there are really only like two things I find interesting.

1: Kid with Black cat: I know insomniac had a similar story but it turned out Felicia was lying. But in comics I could see a character similar to Damian in concept, they could start as an antagonist or something.

2: Hellspinner: the fan made character that’s basically Mayday who was “raised”(manipulated) by Mephisto in Hell after the OMD deal was made.

(Also what does Superman and Wally’s family even do?, I feel like the bat family is the only one people care about)
