Open | Windows I'm Stumped

2 days ago my PC started freezing/locking up.

It first happened while playing Aion 2, but has since happened while watching youtube/on the desktop.

The mouse still moves but I cant click anything, cant move windows around and have to force shutdown via the power button/reboot button.

Specs are

9800x3d under 420mm aio

9070xt

64gb 6000mhz ram

1000w platinum psu

Asus strix x870-E motherboard.

I have had this system since March 2025 and have had dno issues up until now.

Cpu has a 200mhz overclock which i have tried removing.

Gpu is stock.

Its not over heating, havent monitored temps but its cool air coming from the aio and case, no error codes are being thrown up, no indicators on the motherboard.

Nothing is jumping out at me in event viewer as unusual.

Hi everyone, I’m encountering an error in the registry system and can’t seem to find a solution. The only issue I’m having is that, while watching YouTube, it freezes for a few seconds. Otherwise, the system works perfectly—both in games and in general operation. Sorry for my English; greetings to all.

Open | Hardware Blinking Display from Nvidia GT 1030 Graphics Card if I Turn off Chipset (Intel 4600) Graphics in CMOS Setup

• Upvotes

Weird issue with older motherboard, Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H with a Core i5-4440

The chipset has a built-in Intel 4600 graphics controller, but the video quality is terrible.

I put in an MSI Nvidia GeForce GT 1030 PCI-E graphics card. It works fine unless I go into the BIOS setup and turn off the on-board Intel 4600. Once I do that, the Nvidia GT 1030 video blinks on and off at about a 2 second interval. It's not flickering, it's blinking on and off.

I have to clear the CMOS to turn the 4600 graphics back on (because I can't see the BIOS setup when it's blinking). Once I turn the Intel 4600 back on in the BIOS setup, even though nothing is connected to the motherboard's HDMI or VGA port, the Nvidia graphics works fine.

In Device Manager, I disabled the Intel 4600 and that didn't break the GeForce GT 1030.

Q1. Why does disabling the internal graphics in the BIOS setup cause the blinking on the GeForce GT 1030?

Q2. Does having the chipset graphics enabled in CMOS is affect CPU performance.

Open | Hardware Ryzen 7 9800X3D + Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi7 ICE — only B2 works, DRAM LED with every other RAM configuration

• Upvotes

Sorry for AI I want yall to understand the post, and my english is bad.
I’m troubleshooting a really strange DDR5/AM5 memory issue and I’m trying to figure out whether I should RMA the motherboard or if the CPU could be the problem.
Specs
Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi7 ICE
DDR5 kit, 2 sticks
Latest BIOS: F12e
Important detail: it originally worked
When I first built the PC, both RAM sticks were working normally in A2 + B2 in dual channel.
I left the PC to go study, and when I came back later it would no longer boot. It started hanging on the DRAM debug LED.
Nothing was physically changed while I was away. It basically went from working normally to refusing to POST.
What happens now
The ONLY configuration that POSTs is one RAM stick in B2.
Stick #1 in B2 → boots normally
Stick #2 in B2 → boots normally
A2 only → no POST, DRAM LED
A1 only → no POST
B1 only → no POST
A2 + B2 → no POST
Any configuration involving another slot → no POST
So both RAM sticks themselves appear to be fine because either one works perfectly when installed alone in B2.
What I’ve already tried
Updated BIOS to the latest F12e version.
Cleared CMOS / tested default BIOS settings.
Disabled EXPO/XMP and tested at stock JEDEC speeds.
Tested both RAM sticks individually in B2 — both work.
Cleaned the CPU’s gold contact pads with a dry lint-free wipe.
Removed/reseated the CPU.
Inspected the AM5 socket closely from multiple angles.
I can’t see any obviously bent socket pins.
Tested whether cooler mounting pressure was causing bad CPU/socket contact.
Completely removed the AIO block and did a very brief POST test with no cooler mounting pressure — same issue.
Reseated the RAM multiple times.
Another weird detail: if I insert a DIMM into A2 while the PC is powered off, the motherboard’s standby lighting reacts/turns off, so it seems like the board can at least physically/electrically detect something being inserted there. It just cannot actually train memory or POST from that slot/channel.
My current theory
Because:
both RAM sticks work in B2,
A2/B2 originally worked normally,
it suddenly stopped working without me touching the PC,
EXPO is disabled,
BIOS is updated,
cooler pressure has been ruled out,
CPU contacts are clean,
and I can’t see any bent AM5 pins,
I’m thinking either:
the motherboard has developed a fault in the memory traces/slot circuitry, or
the memory controller inside the 9800X3D has partially failed, or
there’s a very subtle socket contact/pin issue that I can’t see.
The fact that the system originally ran dual channel normally and then suddenly lost it is what confuses me the most.
Has anyone seen this behavior on AM5?
Would you RMA the motherboard first, or does this sound more like a 9800X3D IMC failure?
I have close-up pictures of the socket as well and can’t spot any clearly bent pins.

Open | Hardware New PC Build - No video output with integrated graphics

• Upvotes

Previous Post for context: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/1wym8ar/new_pc_build_no_video_output/

CPU - Ryzen 3 2200G

MoBo - Asus Prime B450M-A

16 GB DDR4

Previously included an Intel Arc B580, but removed it after the initial CPU swap was unsuccessful in a debugging step.

Hello, I have previously posted about my issue (linked above) where with my new PC, I cannot get a video output. In an attempt to remedy this, I got an R3 2200G for the integrated graphics and so I could get it to post so I could update the BIOS and get it compatable with my Ryzen 5 5500. The only change since the CPU swap is that there is now a yellow LED lit up towards the tail-end of the PCI-e slot. See attached pictures. This LED was not on previously.

I am using the HDMI output from the MoBo. I have also attempted to use the VGA out from the MoBo with similar results.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Open | Mac [macOS] How can I investigate persistent Chrome settings, removed extensions, and possible Google Sync issues?

Hi everyone! I’m a MacBook user looking for technical advice on Google Chrome, browser extensions, account synchronization, and unexpected browser behavior.

I’ve experienced issues with certain Chrome features, including some functionality in ChatGPT. I also noticed that certain settings seemed to carry over when signing into my Google account.

I’m trying to determine whether these behaviors are related to Chrome Sync, local browser configurations, extensions, or managed policies.

What I’ve identified so far

● I currently use a MacBook running macOS.
● Chrome’s extension Developer Mode was previously enabled.
● Historical records reference extensions such as TwSearchExporter, X Unfollower/Xtensions, ReDeck, and Hola, some of which have automation capabilities.
● The original extension installations are no longer available for direct inspection.
● I’ve preserved browsing history records from Safari and Chrome Desktop, including authentication activity, redirects, and extension-related entries.
● Some historical Chrome records may originate from a different operating system, so I’m keeping those separate from my current MacBook environment.
● I’ve experienced unexpected behavior with certain ChatGPT features, but haven’t established a connection to any particular extension or setting.

Another concern: Chrome DevTools Network tab
When I open Chrome DevTools, the red recording indicator is frequently active in the Network tab.
I understand this is normal behavior and that DevTools records network requests made by the page.

However, when stopping the recording, I previously noticed activity that made me wonder whether information was being transmitted elsewhere.
I haven’t identified an external destination or confirmed any unauthorized transfer.

I’d like to understand how to distinguish normal network activity from requests potentially generated by browser extensions or scripts.

I’m also interested in understanding which images, documents, cached resources, or authentication-related information may remain stored locally, and whether any of that data could be accessed from another authenticated device.

What I need help with

  1. How can I determine whether Chrome settings are being restored through Google Sync, local macOS profile data, or browser policies?
  2. Is it possible to investigate removed extensions using preserved browsing history or other historical records?
  3. How can I check whether Chrome extensions or configurations are interfering with ChatGPT uploads, downloads, or other features?
  4. What’s the best way to distinguish normal DevTools Network activity from requests initiated by extensions or scripts?
  5. Which Chrome data is actually synchronized through a Google account, and which remains stored locally on macOS?
  6. How can I safely create a clean Chrome profile on my MacBook without restoring unwanted settings or compromising previously preserved records?
    What I’ve tried
I’ve reviewed and preserved historical browsing records from Safari and Chrome Desktop, including references to extensions, authentication activity, and redirects.

The original extension installations are no longer available for inspection. I haven’t yet confirmed whether Chrome Sync is responsible for the settings I observed, nor have I completed a controlled comparison between a clean Chrome profile and my existing environment.

I’d prefer to preserve the available records before resetting or deleting anything.
My goal

I’m not claiming that my browser was compromised, that monitoring occurred, or that files were transferred without authorization.

I want to distinguish documented observations from assumptions, understand what the existing records can actually establish, and identify practical troubleshooting steps.

Ultimately, I’d like to use Chrome and my Google account on my MacBook in a clean, reliable environment without restoring unwanted configurations or losing potentially useful diagnostic records.

Any advice on Chrome Sync, macOS browser profiles, extension permissions, DevTools, or safe troubleshooting procedures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Open | Windows USB to SATA randomly disconnecting on windows 11

I have a SSD connected to my PC via a USB to SATA cable plugged into a 3.1 port and get the expected speeds from it, however I've been running into a problem in the past few weeks where the SSD will suddenly become inaccessible without a USB disconnected sound or any message/error that I can see. Since I install all my games onto it this often happens in the middle of a game, it will just freeze and I will either alt-tab out and quit the program or power cycle my PC depending on the game and how it acts.

I can't figure out why it would be doing this, the SSD is quite old so it might be failing on me but windows tells me its healthy when I go into the settings, perhaps windows is wrong but I wanted to get a second opinion, it's a Samsung 850 EVO 1TB, latest version of windows, no optional updates I can do.

Happy to provide any other info.

Open | Software Windows 11 briefly freezes, mouse and audio stop responding, and Xbox Game Bar repeatedly crashes. Anyone else experiencing this recently?

Just a heads-up, this is going to be a fairly long post, but I want to be as detailed and precise as possible about what I've experienced. Hopefully, the extra information will help others recognize similar issues or narrow down what might be causing them.

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to figure out whether I'm experiencing a Windows or Xbox Game Bar issue, a graphics driver problem, or potentially something wrong with my laptop.

I recently purchased a high-end ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 gaming laptop, and over the past few days I've experienced a couple of unusual freezes. I've also noticed that Xbox Game Bar has repeatedly been crashing or becoming unresponsive according to Windows Reliability Monitor.

I've searched online and found people describing similar problems, but many discussions are several years old. I'm particularly interested in hearing whether anyone has experienced something similar recently.

My laptop specifications:

  • Model: ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2026), G835LWG-TQ285W
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, 16 GB GDDR7, up to 175 W
  • RAM: 64 GB DDR5-6400
  • Storage: 2 TB NVMe RAID 0
  • Display: 18-inch 3840 × 2400 Mini LED, 240 Hz
  • Operating system: Windows 11
  • GPU configuration: NVIDIA Advanced Optimus / MUX switch
  • Power: Always plugged in when gaming

Windows, NVIDIA graphics drivers and the laptop BIOS have all been updated recently.

Issue 1: Temporary system freezes

I've experienced two similar incidents over the past few days.

First incident:

I was playing Satisfactory on my laptop's internal display while watching a YouTube stream on an external monitor.

Suddenly, the system appeared to freeze for approximately one second. The audio stopped, and my mouse seemed to become unresponsive before suddenly jumping forward.

Everything returned to normal almost immediately, and I continued using the laptop without further problems.

I checked Windows Reliability Monitor afterward, but the only warning I initially found was an unsuccessful Microsoft GameInput installation with error code 1603. I don't know whether that was related.

Second incident (October 26):

I was watching a YouTube video when the video suddenly froze.

I pressed Space because I initially thought I might have accidentally paused it, but nothing happened. I then tried moving my mouse, but the cursor didn't respond.

A moment later, the system became responsive again. The YouTube video paused, apparently registering my earlier Space keypress, and the mouse cursor suddenly moved.

I immediately opened Windows Reliability Monitor and found a critical event involving Xbox Game Bar at 18:39, which was very close to when the freeze occurred.

The error details were:

  • Application: Xbox Game Bar
  • Problem: Stopped responding and was closed
  • Problem Event Name: MoAppHang
  • Application: GameBar.exe
  • Package: Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay
  • Application version: 7.326.8061.0
  • Date: October 26, 2026, 18:39

Looking back through Reliability Monitor, I noticed that Game Bar has repeatedly been crashing or hanging over the past several days.

I cannot confirm whether Game Bar is causing the freezes or simply becoming unresponsive because something else is happening.

Issue 2: Cyberpunk 2077 graphical corruption and severe FPS drop

I also experienced a strange graphical problem while playing Cyberpunk 2077 on October 25.

The game was initially running normally at approximately 80–100 FPS.

Suddenly, certain parts of the game's graphics became black, and my FPS dropped dramatically to around 20–25.

The game remained playable, and its underlying logic appeared to continue functioning normally, but everything felt unusually slow, almost worse than the reported 20–25 FPS.

Interestingly, when I alt-tabbed out of Cyberpunk, Windows itself was completely responsive.

I could open my browser, watch YouTube and use the laptop normally without any noticeable performance issues.

However, as soon as I returned to Cyberpunk, the graphical corruption and severe FPS drop were still present.

I eventually closed Cyberpunk and launched it again. Everything immediately returned to normal.

I subsequently played several other games that day without experiencing any problems.

I also noticed a Game Bar crash recorded on the same day, although I haven't established whether it happened at the same time as the Cyberpunk incident.

I'm not necessarily assuming these two problems are related, but I thought it was worth mentioning both.

Additional information

I generally run the laptop in ASUS Armoury Crate's higher-performance modes, which allow increased power consumption and more aggressive fan cooling.

I haven't manually overclocked the CPU or GPU.

The laptop is designed for high-performance gaming, and I haven't experienced any consistent performance issues, unexpected shutdowns or blue screens.

Apart from these incidents, the system has been running extremely well.

What I'm trying to find out

Has anyone else experienced any of the following recently?

  1. Xbox Game Bar repeatedly crashing or hanging in Windows Reliability Monitor, even when you're not actively using its overlay.
  2. Brief system freezes where video and mouse input stop responding, followed by delayed input being registered when the system recovers.
  3. Similar problems on newer ASUS ROG laptops or systems using NVIDIA RTX 50-series GPUs.
  4. Sudden graphical corruption and severe FPS drops in Cyberpunk 2077 that disappear completely after restarting the game.

I'm particularly interested in whether this could be related to a recent Windows update, NVIDIA driver update or Xbox Game Bar update.

I'm planning to investigate Event Viewer and test whether disabling Game Bar makes any difference, but I'd really appreciate hearing whether anyone else has encountered similar symptoms.

Thanks in advance!

So at 1 in the morning I git hit by a massive nasty virus attack. 100% Trojans, possibly Spyware but im not sure.

I secured all my accounts, ran a deep scan and bitdefender several times before hard resetting and formatting the pc. Re installing windows and all. I have now changed all passwords and enabled all possible mfa's.

Do it still need to watch out for a possible second attempt or can I go to sleep being secured?

Open | Hardware Plugged in wired mouse and my laptop fried itself

Hello friends.

About an hour ago I might have fried my laptop. I bought it new Dec 2023. After a few months of light usage (sometime in 2024), I forgot my login and left it in a box where it stayed until three days ago when I found it and reset the login. Roughly twenty hours of updates later, I thought everything was functioning well.

Today I unplugged my basic wired mouse from my desktop (which works just fine) and plugged it into my laptop. Immediately the screen froze and it stayed frozen even after unplugging the mouse. I thought it might have been coincidence or a bad USB, so I restarted the laptop, checked for driver updates, and plugged in the mouse again in a different port. Same result. I abandoned the mouse and restarted the computer. It kept freezing, and once I managed to sign in the screen was covered in orange and brown, and then froze once more.

I haven't been able to even turn the screen on. Pressing the power button turns on the internal fans (I can hear them) and a couple lights on the keyboard. All of these turn off and on intermittently on their on.

I really can't stress enough how little this laptop has been used before this weekend.

Anyway, how deep-fried is this laptop on a scale of 1-10?

Specs copy and pasted from my order confirmation below.

Open | Hardware Title: Ryzen 7 7800X3D won’t POST on two motherboards — replaced CPU, still getting DRAM light and restart loop. Is RAM the next thing to test?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice because I’ve been troubleshooting my PC for a while now and I’m trying to figure out what is causing the problem before spending more money on parts.
My PC specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (AMD warranty replacement)
Motherboard (original): NZXT N7 B650E
Motherboard (current): Gigabyte B650 AORUS Elite AX, revision 1.2
RAM: T-Force DDR5-6000, 16GB total (2 × 8GB)
GPU: RTX 2070
PSU: Corsair RM750x
CPU cooler: Cooler Master AIO
What originally happened:
My PC worked perfectly for around two years. I moved apartments, transported it carefully, and it continued working normally for about two months after the move. Then, one day, it suddenly stopped booting.
The PC would power on, the fans and AIO would run, but both monitors showed no signal and the keyboard wouldn’t light up. The CPU and DRAM diagnostic LEDs on the NZXT motherboard stayed solid red. The computer wouldn’t shut itself off; I had to hold the power button.
A few days before this happened, NZXT CAM installers had frozen while extracting, but Windows otherwise seemed normal.
Everything I’ve tried on the original NZXT motherboard:
Checked the CPU power connection.
Removed the CPU and visually inspected the pins/contacts; nothing appeared damaged.
Cleared CMOS using the motherboard button.
Removed the CMOS battery for about five minutes.
Removed the RTX 2070 and tried booting without it.
Tried BIOS Flashback using a FAT32 USB drive and the correct BIOS file. The flash LED blinked for several minutes, but the issue remained.
Tried troubleshooting with my existing RAM, including testing sticks individually and different slots.
Nothing fixed the issue. The CPU and DRAM LEDs remained lit, and the system wouldn’t POST.
What I did next:
I bought a Gigabyte B650 AORUS Elite AX motherboard, revision 1.2, to test whether the original motherboard was faulty.
With the old CPU installed, the new motherboard also wouldn’t POST. The DRAM LED stayed lit, the monitor remained black, and the PC would repeatedly restart after roughly 4–5 minutes.
I tested each of my two T-Force RAM sticks individually and together, and tried different RAM slots. The problem remained.
I then contacted AMD for a warranty replacement for my Ryzen 7 7800X3D. AMD approved the RMA, received the old CPU, and sent me a replacement processor.
After installing the replacement CPU:
I installed the replacement CPU in the Gigabyte motherboard, applied thermal paste, mounted the AIO cooler, and connected everything. I also prepared a USB drive with the BIOS for my exact motherboard revision and used Q-Flash Plus. The Q-Flash LED blinked for around 5–10 minutes and then stopped.
Unfortunately, the system still won’t POST. The CPU diagnostic LED briefly comes on, then the DRAM LED stays solid red. The monitor remains black, and the PC eventually restarts again.
I haven’t confirmed that the replacement CPU is faulty, and I haven’t yet tested with a different RAM kit.
My questions:
Since the same general problem occurred on two motherboards and continued after replacing the CPU, does RAM seem like the next reasonable thing to test?
Could both RAM sticks be faulty, or could there be another issue causing the DRAM diagnostic LED to stay on?
Could BIOS compatibility or memory training still be responsible, even after using Q-Flash Plus?
Could the PSU, its cables/extensions, or something else cause these symptoms?
Is there anything else I should check before buying replacement RAM?
I’m trying not to keep buying parts blindly. I was considering testing a different DDR5 kit, but prices are extremely high right now, so I’d appreciate any advice on what to prioritize.
Thanks in advance! Any ideas or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Open | Windows Internal microphone not working. I’ve tried everything and looked everywhere

I have a Gigabyte AORUS 16X AKG running Windows 11. I’ve had occasional strange issues before, but nothing that couldn’t be solved. However, for the past couple weeks, my laptop’s internal microphone has completely stopped working. The input volume slider snaps back to 0 whenever I try to increase it. I’ve looked up this issue and nothing that has been suggested has worked: all my drivers are up to date, I can’t roll back the drivers, I’ve disabled several things in Control Panel, I’ve restarted my computer, uninstalled & reinstalled the microphone array drivers. None of these have worked.

A few people with this issue have suggested turning off exclusive mode. However, I can’t do this — there’s no “advanced” tab when I click the “Properties” button on my microphone’s sound settings. I don’t know how I could fix this — my very tech-smart friend is completely stumped. Could it be a hardware issue? Am I missing something? Any advice is appreciated.

(Edit: phrasing)

Open | Software Texts not showing

On my Desktop, no apps show their name underneath, when I open any windows program like Disk Manager or System Properties it shows little to no text at all. Also when I open Google the text at the upper search bar and the options menu are so tiny I can barely read them.

When I opened my Files Explorer to check, it showed no files at all, nothing! Completely empty.

Games don't seem to be booting up either.

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on?

Edit: I use windows 11! Forgot to mention

Open | Hardware Microphone static on pc across multiple microphones for years?

Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my inquiry. For about 5 years I've had this odd issue of constant static at my pc when I speak into a microphone for any platform. I've always just tried to live with it, but other people aren't able to work around it anymore for gaming and zoom meetings. it started with a razor seiren x microphone and I just assumed at the time it was a cheap gaming microphone going out before eventually picking up a Samson G-Track pro. I'm not really sure if the issue went away for a period of time as people would complain about the seiren on and off, but recently both my friends and people I'm regularly in meetings with are starting to repeatedly bring it up. it also occurs on my retired steel series arctis 7 headphones. could it be a mobo problem? I've been building up with the same one for a while. the mobo is a gigabyte b450 ds3h. I've had obscure problems like this before that either just go away or I find a fix on accident, but I'm stumped on this. I remember reading threads back then about some seiren x owners reporting a similar issue at the time and thought it was only that. I've tried different usb ports over time, but there's no difference. I appreciate any advice on this, thank you.

Open | Linux A still frame from a few moments ago appears while gaming.

So, when I play basically any video game, every minute or so a frame from a few moments ago very briefly appears. The weirdest part about it is it's usually a frame from a menu, loading screen etc. and very rarely, if ever, a frame from the actual gameplay. It happens in almost every game and play and completely ruins the experience. Please help.

I'm using Linux mint, 5070, and have updated graphic drivers.

Open | Hardware PC suddenly crashing, GPU disappearing from PCIe, now failing POST with VGA debug LED. Motherboard, GPU, or PSU?

My PC has been working reliably for months, but over the past week it’s developed increasingly serious problems. I’m trying to narrow down the cause before spending money replacing components.
Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900XT
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 (less than a year old)
RAM: 32 GB DDR4
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 750W or 850W
OS: Nobara Linux
BIOS: 2.P1 (July 2026)
Initially, the PC began spontaneously rebooting during boot and gaming. Linux reported fatal AMD machine-check errors:
```MC5_STATUS: 0xbea0000000000108
IPID: 0x000500b000000000
Syndrome: 0x000000004d000000
```
The kernel also reported an uncorrectable error causing an AMD Data Fabric sync flood.
I disabled XMP and ran four passes of Memtest86+ with zero errors, but the crashes continued.
Switching from Nobara kernel 7.2.11 to 7.2.10 initially seemed to fix things. I played Cyberpunk for hours without problems.
However, after approximately 11 hours of uptime, both monitors suddenly lost signal while gaming. Audio continued briefly before stopping, and the system completely froze.
The logs showed:

```
amdgpu: device lost from bus!
SMU: bus error ... response:0xFFFFFFFF
Failed to export SMU metrics table!
```

GPU reset attempts failed. On subsequent boots, AMDGPU also reported SMU/PSP initialization failures.
Now the PC sometimes won’t even POST. The motherboard’s VGA debug LED stays illuminated, and neither monitor receives a signal. No MSI logo or GRUB appears, so this isn’t exclusively a Linux boot issue.

I am at my wits end here and I do not know what to do. Please help.
