Me and my husband have been looking for a rental house, and honestly, dealing with agents has been exhausting.
Most of the agents we've contacted either take forever to reply, ignore half our questions, or start asking us questions without answering ours first.
One recent agent didn't even know basic details about the property. We politely asked if they could check with the owner before we arranged a viewing, but they just kept repeating, "If you want to see the house, schedule a viewing." Over and over. 😭
Like, why would we spend time and money traveling to view a place when we don't even know if it meets our basic requirements?
We're not expecting agents to know everything, but at least being willing to check would be nice.
Maybe we've just been unlucky, but it's been frustratingly common.
Does anyone know a genuinely reliable and professional rental agent in Thailand who actually communicates and answers questions? Would really appreciate recommendations!

Hey there Thailand community! As we get towards the holiday time of year, I find myself looking for gifts. My partner (a native Thai) is a big fan of books, as am I. I was hoping to get her an e-reader, but am unsure which is the best for books in Thai language. I have a kindle myself, but I know that is a garbage choice for Thailand given its dependence on the Amazon marketplace, closed software system, and limited selection of Thai language books.
Does anyone here have any recommendations for an alternative that offers easy use and easy access to Thai language works? Thanks in advance and an early happy holidays to everyone here!

My wife and I are staying with a lovely middle aged Thai lady in an informal and friendly guest house by the sea.
We've all become very friendly, and the service we've received has been beyond good.
As a token of our appreciation, we'd like to buy her an appropriate gift when we leave.
Can anyone give us any guidance as to what we can get her please?

An online uproar has erupted after a Myanmar national allegedly shared a photoshopped image deemed insulting to the Thai royal family. The incident has triggered widespread calls for his employer to investigate the matter and take full responsibility.
On October 26, 2026, TY Store-a wholesale secondhand clothing distributor-issued an official statement addressing the backlash. The company emphasized that they did not take the matter lightly and had immediately launched an inquiry into the employee's behavior.
Investigation confirms wrongdoing; employee fired
Following an internal review, the company confirmed that the employee had indeed committed the offense, which directly violates their corporate code of ethics and workplace regulations. Consequently, TY Store has terminated the employment of Mr. Nyi Nyi Lwin, effective immediately.
TY Store also expressed its deep regrets over the incident, which has now captured major public attention.
*** This situation comes amid ongoing sensitivities, with many Myanmar netizens sharing their concerns over GMMTV’s upcoming Thai remake of the popular Chinese series Scarlet Heart (Scarlet Heart Thailand). An online controversy was sparked after characters were seen wearing traditional Burmese attire in the promotional material.
Although the producers clarified that the costume design was inspired by a blend of Lanna, Shan, Burmese, and Chinese cultures, many Burmese remain unsatisfied and are demanding that GMMTV formally credit their culture.
*** It is suspected that political agitators have jumped on the bandwagon to fan the flames, escalating the issue far beyond a cultural debate in an attempt to stir up the situation.

Hi all,
I learn thai and am planning to buy a laptop soon. I dont live in Thailand but for my studies I think having a laptop with a dual keyboard with Thai and English would be best. I am looking into Lenovo models however I am struggling to find if I can purchase a model with a dual keyboard. When I look on the UK Lenovo website (where I live) there are no options for a Thai keyboard - only German, Italian etc. While when I look on the Lenovo Thai website I can only see options for Thai keyboards and I am not sure whether this would also have a English keyboard. I will be primarily using the English keybaord however would definitely benefit from the dual labels. Do you guys have any suggestions or insights?

My American brother and his Thai fiancée are getting married in Thailand at the end of the year. I’m an opera singer and I’d like to sing them a few songs, one of which should be in Thai.
Please help me choose a song that’s appropriate for the occasion! Something solemn or joyous that will sound okay without any accompaniment.

October 24, 2026 - Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, Director of the Thailand–Cambodia Joint Information Center (JIC), gave an interview regarding the Cambodian movie Killing Field 2: Blood Border. The film depicts the events surrounding Cambodian refugees in 1979 and includes scenes showing Thai soldiers utilizing violence. He stated that Thailand respects historical facts and acknowledges the losses suffered by the Cambodian people during past conflicts. He admitted that there are historical records concerning the pushback of refugees along the border in 1979, which caused immense suffering and loss for many. However, since films are presented through a creative process, one must separate verified facts from dramatic simulations or details that require further verification. The JIC will review the information comprehensively and will not rush to conclusions based solely on the movie trailer.
When asked whether the imagery of soldiers wearing Thai flags committing violence in the film would damage Thailand's image, ACM Prapas stated that the presentation of military uniforms and insignia should align with the historical facts of that era, including the specific units and events referenced. If any details are found to be inaccurate, Thailand is ready to clarify them directly with evidence, but will not deny historical facts simply because a film portrays Thailand in a negative light. Furthermore, past events should not be generalized to accuse present-day Thai officials or citizens.
Regarding allegations that the Cambodian government backed the production of this film, the JIC Director noted that the sources of funding and support for the film must be verified through clear evidence. No party's intentions should be accused or concluded without verified data. Thailand respects creative freedom; at the same time, claims regarding historical facts should be open to comprehensive verification and exchange of information. As for retaliatory measures or demands to suspend the film's screening, there is currently no reason to prematurely conclude that such actions are necessary. The JIC's mission is to verify facts, coordinate with relevant agencies, and communicate accurate information to the public. If significantly inaccurate data is discovered, clarifications will be made specifically on those points using evidence, without using rhetoric that generates hatred between the people of both nations.
ACM Prapas reiterated that history must be studied directly and honestly, and the suffering of all refugees deserves respect. All sides must learn from the past, rather than using the past as a pretext to create new hatred. Thailand reaffirms the importance of facts, humanitarian principles, responsible communication, and the peaceful resolution of international issues. History must not be denied, but it must not be allowed to be used as a substitute for evidence of current events.
The JIC has acknowledged the information regarding the Cambodian film presenting past refugee events and is currently monitoring and verifying the details. The center reiterates that Thailand respects historical facts and recognizes the losses of refugees during that period. It will not rush to judge the film based solely on its trailer and stands ready to clarify with evidence if inaccuracies are found. The director emphasized that facts must come first, responsibility must be the anchor, and peace must be the shared goal-under the concept of "Respecting the past, adhering to facts, not generalizing the present, and moving toward peace."

Bangkok, Thailand — October 24, 2026
Thai police have arrested a 54-year-old Israeli man accused of luring women through dating apps, serving them cakes suspected of containing crystal methamphetamine, engaging in sexual activities with them, and secretly recording the encounters.
The suspect, identified only as Tomer, also known by the nickname “Tom Yum Kung,” was arrested alongside a 44-year-old Thai woman, identified as Patchanok, at a condominium on Pracha Uthit Road in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district.
The operation was led by Police Major General Theeradej Thamsuthee, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Narcotics Suppression Center and Immigration Bureau investigators.
Dating App Encounters and Suspected Drug-Laced Cakes
The investigation began after Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) received a tip through its 1386 hotline.
According to the complaint, an Israeli man with an eagle tattoo on his left upper arm had been using dating applications to contact women and invite them to his condominium.
The informant alleged that the man would prepare cakes for his female guests. After eating the cakes, the women reportedly experienced unusual sensations, including hot flashes and heightened sexual arousal. The man would then engage in sexual intercourse with them and secretly record the encounters.
Investigators suspected that the cakes contained illegal drugs.
Crystal Meth, Drug Packaging, and Secret Recordings Discovered
During the raid, police seized:
15 grams of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”)
50 bags used for packaging crystal methamphetamine
One digital weighing scale
One tray of cake suspected of containing illegal drugs
One mobile phone containing alleged drug-trafficking communications and numerous secretly recorded sexual videos
Police said the suspect’s phone contained evidence suggesting that he had purchased illegal drugs for resale, along with multiple videos showing sexual encounters with different women on a sofa inside his condominium.
Although Tomer denied owning the crystal methamphetamine, investigators said the digital evidence indicated his involvement in drug distribution.
Overstayed His Visa by 2,095 Days
Immigration authorities discovered that Tomer had remained in Thailand 2,095 days beyond his permitted stay, equivalent to approximately five years and nine months.
Investigators also reported that he had no apparent regular employment, spent most of his time inside his condominium, and nevertheless appeared to have sufficient money for daily expenses.
Numerous women were reportedly seen entering and leaving his apartment.
Claimed Powerful Connections and Threatened Police Officers
During his arrest, Tomer allegedly claimed that influential individuals would intervene on his behalf and secure his release within two hours.
He reportedly demanded the names of the arresting officers and threatened to have the entire team transferred or dismissed from their positions.
He also allegedly made a death threat against Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanpheerisit Junpipop, widely known as “Inspector Jae.”
Despite these threats, police proceeded with the arrest and transferred both suspects to Huai Khwang Police Station for legal proceedings.
Criminal Charges
Tomer, the Israeli suspect, faces charges including:
Joint possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) without authorization.
Overstaying his permitted period in Thailand by 2,095 days.
Refusing to undergo a drug test requested by an authorized narcotics officer.
Failing to comply with a lawful order issued by a competent officer without reasonable justification.
Patchanok, the Thai suspect, faces charges including:
Joint possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) without authorization.
Illegal consumption of methamphetamine.
Both suspects were handed over to investigators at Huai Khwang Police Station.
Senior Police Leadership Oversaw the Operation
The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior Royal Thai Police officials, including:
Police General Samran Nuanma, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police
Police General Itthipol Atchariyapradit, Deputy Commissioner-General
Police Lieutenant General Kritsada Kanchanalongkorn, Assistant Commissioner-General
Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau
Police Lieutenant General Noppasin Poolsawat, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau
The allegations concerning drug-laced cakes, non-consensual recordings, and threats against police officers remain subject to further investigation. The suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Can minors or people under 18 register on THIM or is it only for adults?

Hi all, looking for anyone who's done this recently.
My situation:
- Hong Kong citizen, living in Bangkok for the past 4 years on a BOI Non-B visa + work permit through my employer
- My employment ended on Oct 23, 2026, so I expect the BOI visa/work permit to be cancelled [or: has already been cancelled on DATE]
- I'm married to a Thai national (marriage registered in Thailand [or: abroad and registered at the amphur])
- I have a new job lined up, but that company's visa sponsorship is still pending, so I'd like to bridge the gap on a marriage-based Non-O
Questions:
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who did this in 2025–2026, since rules seem to change a lot. Thanks!

Wolf Pack DNA,** **in collaboration with the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, is seeking public assistance in the case of 2024 Winnemucca John Doe: NamUs Case UP132364.
The partial remains of an unidentified adult male were discovered near the Humboldt River in Winnemucca, Humboldt County, Nevada, in September 2024. The individual was estimated to have stood between approximately 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. Eye color and hair color could not be determined.
In life, the individual’s skull had been surgically reconstructed using two metal plates, likely the result of severe head trauma. The plates contained no serial numbers or identifying markings that could assist investigators.
Recovered with the remains was a fragment of a “Goodfellow” brand waistband, a brand sold at Target retailers nationwide.
Based on forensic analysis and matches within existing law enforcement opt-in databases, the individual is believed to have been of South Asian and/or East Asian descent, with possible ties to China, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. He might also have ties to the Hmong ethnic community.
Volunteers at Wolf Pack DNA began the investigative genetic genealogy process in January of 2026 in an effort to identify this individual. Unfortunately, due to a limited number of usable DNA matches within existing databases, as well as matches primarily associated with foreign nationals and/or individuals adopted from outside the United States, efforts at identification via IGG have stalled. These challenges are increasingly common in cases involving individuals with recent immigration in their familial lines or limited representation in consumer DNA databases.
Despite the lack of identification at this time, Wolf Pack DNA remains committed to supporting agencies in their efforts to restore names to unidentified individuals and to bringing answers to families whenever possible.
If you are part of, or have ties to, any of these populations and have already taken a direct-to-consumer DNA test, we strongly encourage you to upload your results to GEDmatch and DNA Justice and opt in to law enforcement matching.
If you have not yet taken a DNA test, please consider doing so through a company of your choice, such as Ancestry, MyHeritage, or 23andMe. Once you receive your results, you can then upload your data to GEDmatch and DNA Justice.
Anyone with information that may assist in identifying this individual is encouraged to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (775) 623-6419, the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office at (775) 785-6114, or visit the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) case page at:

Chulalongkorn University hosted the “Chula Thailand Presidents Summit 2025” at its auditorium, where Dhanin Chearavanont, senior chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group), delivered a keynote address titled “Future Thailand: Next Growth.”
Dhanin praised Chulalongkorn University for producing many talented people, including Sarath Ratanavadi, who entered the energy business at a relatively young age. He said energy was one of the most important industries of the future, as electricity would be indispensable to technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicles (EVs). Electricity can be generated from solar and hydropower, but nuclear power is particularly important as a future energy source because it is powerful, clean and safe.
He noted that Indonesia and Malaysia already had legislation in place to accommodate the construction of advanced nuclear power plants, while Thailand had yet to make similar progress. He argued that one of the main things holding Thailand back in AI and other technological fields was the lack of clean, affordable electricity from sources such as nuclear power. In his view, solar and wind power alone would not be sufficient.
Regarding CP Group’s overseas investments, Dhanin said the company must deliver three benefits: benefits for the country in which it invests, benefits for the people of that country, and benefits for CP Group itself. Since the company produces goods for consumers, he explained, it must ensure that people want to buy those products. He remained optimistic about the future, although he acknowledged that crises were inevitable and that every crisis also presented opportunities.
Turning to Thailand’s domestic economy, Dhanin said the country still had a promising future but was facing a period of global upheaval, including increasingly unpredictable weather, political instability and rapid technological changes that were replacing existing systems and industries.
He identified tourism as one of Thailand’s key economic drivers and said the government was right to introduce visa-free entry because tourism could bring money into the country faster than many other sectors. However, he questioned whether Thailand was truly ready to maximize its tourism potential.
He said the country needed additional budget allocations to support tourism and establish clear targets, including the desired scale of the industry and the types of tourists and countries Thailand should focus on. He questioned whether the government had set such targets.
Dhanin also suggested that Thailand could become an international education hub. Given the country's high quality of life, he said, Thailand had the potential to attract more international students if its universities could keep pace with global developments. This would bring talented people into the country and generate substantial revenue, potentially rivaling tourism as a source of income in the long term.
He urged the government to establish clear tourism targets, allocate sufficient funding and ensure visitor safety.
Dhanin said agriculture was another area in which Thailand had a competitive advantage. While many countries around the world faced severe natural disasters, such as earthquakes and typhoons, Thailand had largely avoided disasters of that magnitude, although it continued to struggle with flooding and drought.
He suggested that some of the budget allocated for road construction should instead be used to reorganize agricultural land and develop irrigation systems alongside roads. He said Thailand had yet to demonstrate sufficient commitment to developing its irrigation infrastructure.
With effective irrigation systems, he argued, the country could prevent both droughts and floods.
Although Thailand had many experts in water management, Dhanin said the country still lacked the policies and funding needed to develop more dams, irrigation systems and water-storage facilities to supply agricultural land. If these measures were implemented, he believed agricultural output could increase fivefold.
He stressed that agriculture needed to embrace technology throughout the production process, from crop varieties to the use of AI for research and development. If Thailand lacked sufficient skilled personnel, it could recruit experts from around the world.
Other priorities included fertilizers, food supplies, livestock breeding and animal feed. These areas also required advanced technology to improve efficiency and accelerate growth. He predicted that agriculture would become one of the most technology-intensive sectors, citing drones already being used by companies in Thailand, China and Russia.
Livestock farming would also need to adopt new technologies, he said. Animals require appropriate feed and breeding programs, while disease prevention requires veterinary expertise and advanced systems. Robots could help improve safety, precision and quality while reducing direct human involvement. Technology would also play an increasingly important role in logistics, transportation, retail, restaurants and the food supply chain.
Dhanin explained that CP Group operated across the entire supply chain, from upstream production to downstream distribution. Although some people viewed this business model as monopolistic, he argued that vertical integration helped coordinate every stage of production.
Producing too much could leave a company unable to sell its goods, while producing too little could result in lost sales. Integrating the supply chain helped the company manage these risks, he said.
He described agriculture as “oil above the ground,” calling it one of Thailand’s most valuable assets. Unlike many other industries, which must import raw materials and components before assembling finished products, agriculture could generate substantial domestic value. He argued that more than 90% of the profits from agricultural products could remain in Thailand.
Turning to AI and emerging technologies, Dhanin said ordinary people were ultimately the users of these innovations. Without sufficient income, people would not have the purchasing power to benefit from new technologies.
Thailand therefore needed to create a population with higher incomes through education that developed knowledge, skills, critical thinking and intelligence—not merely academic qualifications. He also advocated combining education with work experience.
With Thailand’s population declining each year, he warned that the country could not produce skilled workers quickly enough through its existing education system alone.
He cited Singapore as having 2.5 million skilled people and argued that Thailand needed to attract five million skilled workers from around the world immediately. Thailand currently produced only around 300,000 graduates a year, he said, meaning it would take more than a decade to produce five million people through its own education system.
Business leaders also had a responsibility to contribute, Dhanin added. Companies needed to remain profitable while considering the well-being of the public, because their profits ultimately depended on consumers’ purchasing power. If Thai people did not become wealthier, they would not have enough money to buy the goods and services businesses produced.
He said businesses had a role in helping people earn more, while universities were responsible for developing talent and the government needed to establish laws and regulations that supported business growth.
Dhanin said people around the world liked visiting and living in Thailand, but the country's laws did not always make it easy for them to do so. Restrictions remained in place partly because of concerns that foreigners might compete with Thai workers for jobs, preventing foreign nationals from operating certain types of businesses.
He suggested that Thailand could bring in five million foreign workers and skilled professionals, representing only about 7% of the population, while Singapore had attracted nearly twice that proportion. He believed that attracting more foreign talent would benefit Thailand's economy immediately, noting that people were ultimately responsible for creating high-tech innovations.
Dhanin also advised retail companies against relying on price increases to boost profits. Consumers can now ask ChatGPT about prices and compare products worldwide, he said. In the past, shoppers might have had to visit three different stores to find the lowest price, but today they can compare prices globally.
He added that CP Group's new machinery and equipment investments needed to deliver at least five times the power or capacity of existing systems. AI would make processes smarter and more efficient, enabling companies to produce more with less effort.
Dhanin also predicted that wages of 600 baht per day would eventually become inevitable, although he stressed that Thailand needed to develop a workforce capable of keeping pace with global changes.
In closing, Dhanin called for coordinated efforts to make Thailand and its people wealthier and strengthen the country.
He emphasized the importance of universities in developing skilled people, businesses in helping the public become more prosperous, and the government in creating laws and regulations that enable people to enjoy better living standards.
He concluded that Thailand's long-term stability would depend on ensuring that its people became wealthier and that the country could adapt to a rapidly changing world.
