Health Is Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok really worth the high prices? Looking for honest experiences.

Hi everyone!

I've been receiving treatment at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok and was recently quoted around $10,000 USD for the surgical removal of one cervical lymph node, excluding pathology and additional lab tests. For some reason they don't want to tell me the costs... I asked 3 times already...

I'm honestly shocked by the price and wondering whether it's worth continuing treatment there.

Has anyone had experience with Bumrungrad, especially surgeries? Were you satisfied with the care, and did you feel the prices were justified? Did you experience any unexpected charges or unnecessary tests?

I'd really appreciate your honest experiences or recommendations for alternative hospitals in Bangkok. Thanks!

Question/Help How and when are the dates of public holidays determined?

Specifically in July. We want to plan an event in July 2028, but as you know some of the holidays change dates each year.

Is there a way to precalculate when these holidays are? If not, when are they anounced? At January 1 of the same year?

Thank you in advance!

Question/Help Need a Thai Police Clearance MFA AND Argentine Embassy Legalization from abroad. Is an agency the only way to avoid the POA nightmare?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently living abroad and need to get a Thai Police Clearance Certificate legalized by both the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Argentine Embassy in Bangkok.

Because Argentina isn't part of the Apostille Convention, everything has to go through a physical, ink-signed chain of legalizations in Bangkok. I can't fly there myself, so I'm looking at my options.

From what I understand, if I want a friend or relative to do it, I have to make a formal Power of Attorney (PoA) from over here. But since it's an official Thai government process, a foreign PoA would need to be notarized locally, legalized by my local government, and then stamped by the Royal Thai Embassy where I live before it's even accepted in Thailand. It sounds like a total logistical nightmare.

I've heard that if you hire a professional visa/translation agency in Bangkok, they can often bypass the need for a legalized PoA. Supposedly, they just send you their own internal authorization form, you sign it, mail it back with your fingerprint cards, and they handle the police, the MFA, and the Argentine Embassy for you.

Has anyone done this recently for Argentina (or another non-Apostille country)?

I mean it's clearly a fictional show. When I watch fictional/fantasy series and movies like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Game of Thrones, Black Panther...etc. I can clearly see that they all take inspiration from real life culture and fashion, but I never see anyone make such a huge fuss about it.

Education Teaching in Thailand

Hi, How does a typical school day work in Thai public schools? How many lessons do students have per day, how long is each lesson, and how long are the breaks?

I’m going to work there as a teacher, so I’d like to know what to expect.

Gaming Sourcing gaming gear & peripherals in Thailand (Custom requests / local stock)

Hey everyone, If you're living in Thailand and struggling to find specific gaming hardware locally without dealing with long international shipping or import headaches, I might be able to help out.

I have a small local stock of peripherals available and can also help source specific enthusiast brands and models upon request (mice, magnetic keyboards, IEMs, etc.).

Drop a comment or dm if you're looking for something specific or just want advice on gear setup options here.

Question/Help Is it possible to get a copy of someone's birth record?

My Grandparents are both Irish, born in Ireland, and were flying for the Americans during the Vietnam War. They were stationed in Laos, but when my Grandmother became pregnant it was decided she would give birth to my mother and uncle in a hospital in Thailand.

A few years after they were born they moved back to Ireland, and then to England which is where I was born.

I am going through the long process of getting my Irish citizenship recognised on the foreign birth register, but in order to do that I need to link myself to my Irish grandparents. A key part of that is my Mother's birth certificate.

I am estranged with my mother and no one has been able to contact her for 22+ years.

From what I can see, birth certificates are not public information in Thailand and I have therefore come to a dead end.

Can anyone advise if there are certain circumstances where I might be permitted to get one? Who is best to contact?

Appreciate your support.

Visas/Documents Not terminating ED Plus Visa

Does anyone have any experience of just leaving the country before the ED Visa (after 1 year extension) expires?

I have ZERO plans on getting another long term Visa in Thailand. Plus my Visa's expiring on the 29th and my university still hasn't gave me the documents for terminating the Visa. If I come back as a tourist (my country's exempt from tourist Visa), will it be ok?

Sorry if it's been discussed, I just need real experience.

Education Is Shinawatra University (SIU) worth it for Computer Science/IT? Looking for honest reviews from current students and Thai locals

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to study Computer Science or IT in Bangkok. Since I'll be funding my own education, my budget is quite limited, so I'm trying to find a university that offers a reasonable tuition fee without compromising too much on education quality and career opportunities.

Currently, Shinawatra University (SIU) is my first choice because of its relatively affordable tuition fees and the free accommodation they offer. However, I've been struggling to find genuine reviews about the university, especially from current students, graduates, and Thai locals.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has studied at SIU, knows someone who studies there, or has experience with the Thai university system could share their honest opinions.

Here are some things I'd particularly like to know about SIU:

  • How is the actual teaching quality, especially for Computer Science or IT?
  • Are the lecturers knowledgeable and experienced? Do students get enough practical work and hands-on experience?
  • What are the campus environment, facilities, and student life like?
  • Does the university provide decent internship opportunities or connections with IT companies?
  • Do graduates manage to find jobs in the IT industry or pursue master's degrees abroad?
  • Is the degree recognised and accepted by universities internationally?
  • What is the general reputation of SIU among Thai locals and employers?

I'm also considering these universities:

  1. Rangsit University
  2. Southeast Bangkok University (SBU)
  3. Siam University
  4. Kasem Bundit University

If you have experience with any of these universities, I'd appreciate your opinions on their Computer Science/IT programmes, teaching quality, career opportunities, and overall value for money.

I'm not looking for university rankings or promotional comments. I'd genuinely like to hear about people's actual experiences, both positive and negative.

Since I'm paying for everything myself, choosing the right university is a significant financial decision for me.

Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to share their experiences!
