I tried to take a look at the remaining schedule for the teams fighting for the final playoff spots in the East. I chose the teams that are within 4 pts of the Crew on either side and put together a rudimentary model that applies Match Location, Current Standing (↑ for a team above them, ↓ for a team below them) and an opinion on how much they have to play for based on current standings (ie a home match is a likely 3 pts unless it's vs a team above you in the standings with something to play for which makes it a draw. Away matches can be a loss vs a Team above you with something play for, a win vs a team below you in the standings with nothing to play for, and a draw for the other two options). I made the call on if they have something to play for based on current standings and how likely they are to move from that position so since Nashville has already clinched the Supporters' Shield they don't have much to play for besides pride/record breaking (which is not nothing per se but was a decision made to simplify things). Chicago is 4 pts clear of the team on either side of them so I moved them to N since they are pretty locked into 4th place. Atlanta and Montreal are the other Ns due to being dead in the water (despite not actually being mathematically eliminated).

So FCC is in the driver's seat for the 7th Seed as they have a path for 4 additional points putting them at 46 points. Orlando City (44) and RBNY (43) get the final playoff spots leaving Crew/Toronto/NYCFC all outside looking in with 42 points.

I'm not particularly worried about the teams below the Crew surpassing them but getting ahead of the teams in front of them is a heavy lift.

On the brightside, Crew are the hottest team in this grouping so they have the chance to outscore my model and sneak into the playoffs. 6/7 pts might be enough to do it and 9 pts should absolutely do it. Starts on Wednesday, Go Crew!
