Sticky Post your questions & inquiries here! - r/Vietnam monthly random discussion thread - F.A.Q

Lưu ý: Đây là thread chủ yếu dành cho người nước ngoài hoặc không nói tiếng Việt đặt câu hỏi. Nếu có thể, hãy trả lời giúp họ nhé.

Please read the 3rd rule of the sub. Don't post your general questions & inquiries outside of this thread as they will be removed.

Lots of your questions have been answered already so make sure you do a search before asking (how-to below).

To keep this subreddit tidy, we have this monthly thread that is open for random discussions and questions. If you post your basic/general questions outside of this thread they will be removed. Sorry, we want to make this sub friendly but also want it to be clean and organized.

Some examples of the questions that should be posted here:

  • Questions that can be answered with just Yes/No
  • Basic questions like "Where can I buy this?"
  • Questions that were asked many times before. Please do your research
  • Questions that are not specific

Tips to quickly find answers for your questions:

Many of your questions may have been answered since people keep asking the same ones again and again. Here is a quick tip to find the answers for yours.

First, have a look at our old sticky threads. A lot of useful information there. A lot of questions have been answered.

You can also use the search feature of Reddit, just like you do with Google.

Another option is to use Google, as Google understands your queries better than Reddit and can return better results.

Go to Google. Add 'site:https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/' next to your queries (without quotes). For example, if I want to find info on eVisa in this subreddit, my query to put in Google is 'eVisa site:https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/'.

Sticky Hướng dẫn sử dụng r/Vietnam - How to r/Vietnam

(please find English below)

Hello and welcome to r/Vietnam. Below are some quick guidelines to help you better participate in the community activities.

  • r/Vietnam is now a dual language subreddit. You can use both English and Vietnamese here.
  • Please read the rules before participating, making a submission or comment. You can find them on the Sidebar (Desktop), About tab (Mobile), or this thread
  • Trivial questions that can be answered quickly, or google-able, or without the intention of creating a discussion, should be posted in the sticky thread. Travel/visa questions should be posted there too.
  • r/Vietnam has a Discord server here which aims to be more open and flexible to handle more casual conversations. You can also find both English and Vietnamese channels there.

About the changelog.

I've made some changes to the sub:

  • Re-writing the rules to make them more concise. Adding Vietnamese.
  • Remove some unnecessary flairs.
  • Big change: Switching r/Vietnam to a dual-language subreddit. This is based on the fact that the number of Vietnamese people in this sub has increased significantly. I know this is controversial and some of you don't like this but I think we should just give it a try.
  • Making a Discord server. This is after r/place event that I realized we need a place to handle future events like this better and for the ease of casual, chit-chat type of conversations.

Discussion/Thảo luận [CỨU / HELP] Hơn 1.000 hộ dân bị Chủ đầu tư Roxana Plaza "gài bẫy" suốt 9 năm, đòi tăng giá 3 lần

  1. Kết luận Thanh tra 308/KL-UBND: Buộc Tường Phong (với tư cách CĐT) phải có trách nhiệm tiếp tục thực hiện các hợp đồng do Naviland ký kết theo ủy quyền.
  2. Báo cáo 2764/SXD-TTRXD của Sở Xây dựng: Khẳng định việc Tường Phong đòi tăng giá 30% - 50% / ép giá mới là HOÀN TOÀN KHÔNG CÓ CƠ SỞ.

Dù có văn bản pháp lý của Nhà nước bảo vệ, CĐT vẫn cố tình xé rào, muốn xóa sổ hợp đồng gốc để cướp trắng tài sản của dân!

Mong cộng đồng mạng, báo chí và các cơ quan chức năng lên tiếng đòi lại công lý cho hàng ngàn cư dân Roxana Plaza! 🆘

Bà con cần thêm thông tin dự án này cứ thoải mái hỏi em nha, bao nhiêu người đổ máu và nước mắt vì mua bất động sản tại VN :(((

🌐 ENGLISH TL;DR FOR INTERNATIONAL READERS / PRESS:

Homeowners trapped for 9 years as developer demands 250% price hike & voids original contracts! Over 1,000 families bought apartments at Roxana Plaza project (Vietnam) in 2017. After 9 years of delay, the primary developer (Tuong Phong) is now attempting to nullify all original purchase contracts signed via their authorized representative (Naviland) and demanding buyers to pay 50 million VND/m² (up from ~18M VND/m²) to get their homes—despite State Inspection Conclusion No. 308 explicitly ordering the developer to honor all existing buyer contracts. We urge media and public attention to help protect homebuyer rights!

Citizens in the area designated for land reclaimation have been clashing directly with Sun Group corporate officials, though it has now resulted in casualties.

Context: Sun Group planned to build an unannounced Safari by having the local government reclaiming land from citizens in the area. The construction began just some days after announcement in 9/10, leaving no time for people living there to prepare and move while being under compensated for their losses. Local backlash has been immense with policemen having to contain protests and protect Sun Group employees

Vietnamese coffee is not only delicious but also incredibly affordable! From the classic iced milk coffee (cà phê sữa đá) to egg coffee, salted coffee, and coconut coffee, there's so much to try.

If you've been to Vietnam, which of these have you tried? And what impressed you the most about Vietnamese coffee?

Travel Experience/Du lịch Sightseeing in Hue during heavy rain

I'm going to be in Hue for the next 2 days and unfortunate for me it seems like it'll be raining everyday and all the time when I'm here.

I would like to explore the citadel and at least visiting one tomb (Khai Dinh) if possible. Would it be safe to do so during rainy day especially I'm travelling with an elderly with low mobility. I'm just thinking to get a grab instead of booking for tour since the weather is currently not very favourable.

Your suggestion would be very appreciated 😉

Please can you recommend whether I should travel north to south , or south to north?
Also any recommendations for going around this time of year!
Thank you in advance ☺️

Travel Experience/Du lịch SGN transit: lounge first, then enter Vietnam later?

Can I rest in the airside lounge after transfer security, then go out through arrival immigration around 06:00 and come back for my flight?

Landing at SGN T2 at 00:30, departing 20:00 the same day. It’s one ticket with a through boarding pass, and bags are checked through. I’m on visa-free passport. Has anyone done this?

Travel Experience/Du lịch Recommendations for Halon Bay Cruise

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m heading to Vietnam with my family later this year in December, and we’re looking into a 2-day, 1-night Ha Long Bay cruise. I’m trying to figure some things out and could use some help:

1. Is the overnight cruise truly worth it? I’ve read some mixed opinions about the classic routes getting incredibly crowded and 2D1N itineraries feeling a bit rushed. Since this is meant to be a relaxing scenic break for my parents between our city stops, is the overnight stay the best way to experience the bay?

2. What is a realistic budget for a "good" stay? Prices seem to range anywhere from $100 to $500+ per person. What should we realistically aim to spend to ensure a comfortable mid-range or boutique experience? We’d love high-quality food and private balconies to relax on, but we don’t necessarily need an ultra-luxury mega-yacht.

3. Specific cruise/ship recommendations? Do you have any specific ship names you’d strongly recommend from personal experience?

Thanks !

Travel Experience/Du lịch Cúc Phương trek, does anything similar exist elsewhere in Vietnam?

• Upvotes

I did something most travellers wouldn’t necessarily do. I was travelling in the north and I had one day available in Ninh Binh area before my flight back to Saigon.

I went to Cúc Phương National Park and finished the trek through the rainforest. It’s hands down one of the best experiences of my life. I loved everything about the place — the rainforest, the hilly terrain, the mind-blowing biodiversity and to my surprise, the October temperature was more than bearable. Parts of the rainforest really resembled a fantasy world.

I did the trek solo and I’m happy I did so. It felt like I had the national park to myself. I only ran into a few couples and one guided tour group.

I’m now wondering if there are any other national parks or trails in Vietnam that go through a hilly rainforest similar to Cúc Phương?

I’d love to hear if you happen to have experience of other places, or if you just happen to know of any!

Travel Experience/Du lịch Looking for a Local Guide in Ho Chi Minh City for a Day (Paid)

Hi everyone!
I’ll be visiting Ho Chi Minh City in November and I’m looking for a friendly local guide to show me around for a full day (around 6–8 hours).
I’d love to explore the city, including popular tourist attractions, beautiful streets, cute cafés, interesting neighborhoods, hidden gems, and nice photo spots!
I’d also love someone who can take nice pictures of me throughout the day using my phone. No professional photography skills needed, just someone with a good eye for photos!
Of course, this would be a paid arrangement.
If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please DM me with your rates.
Thank you! 😊

Many thanks in advance!

Discussion/Thảo luận Great shipping services to receive Vietnamese skincare in the UK?

Hi all. I'm trying to get some skincare from Vietnam to the UK but have no idea what services/sites are legit and what are possible scams. The store I chose say they'll send me the items if I can find a service that will ship to me. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

Discussion/Thảo luận How common is this? I find this kinda funny because they could have just put the garbage 20m away or something but for some reason it had to be under the sign. Is it about sending a message?

Down a side alley, you'll find Ba Duong.

Remember to also order the pork skewers, they're fantastic.

I usually prefer fish sauce, but their house thick brown dipping sauce has a semi-sweet aroma and taste that's amazing.

Don't forget the raw garlic cloves and mountain of fresh veggies. And of course, the overall vibe and energy of this place makes it my go-to in Da Nang.

Best to go in early evening so you can later walk off this feast!
