Made my first expensive natural fibers blanket… think I ruined it, help!

Hi all, I made a blanket using knit picks city tweed DK. I’m a full time employee and have an 18 month old and my life has been utterly chaotic, so when I finally finished this blanket I was so excited! I ran it through the washer on delicate and tumble dried… well now it’s felted and I wish I did my due diligence… is there a way to fix it?! I was so excited it took me 2 years and now I want to cry…

How do you buy your yarn?

• Upvotes

So, apparently I’m a psycho (according to other fellow crafters) for this. But whenever I go to the yarn store, I always plan out what and how much I buy beforehand. Never more (often less).

For example, today the yarn store had a sale going on so I planned out what I want to make and bought enough yarn for exactly 3 new knitting projects.

  1. Lace shawl — still need to get the beads for it, really excited to finally start working on it
  2. Double knit scarf — my first time trying my hand at double knitting, can’t wait
  3. Socks — Redemption arc from when I tried 8 years ago and failed spectacularly

Nothing more, nothing less lol.

WANTED: Hobbii Friends Wool, Maroon (49)

Hi everyone! I’m currently designing a crochet pattern and have unfortunately run out of Hobbii Friends Wool in colour 49 (Maroon)(specifically the non-superwash), which is out of stock in Poland.
I’m already over halfway through my project and desperately looking for 2 extra skeins to finish it as soon as I can!
Does anyone happen to have any left over that they’d be willing to sell? Even partially used skeins would be fantastic
I’m based in Poland but very happy to cover international shipping from elsewhere in Europe.
Thank you so much! 💕

where to buy an Ashford floor loom with the full accessory setup?

I'm upgrading to an Ashford floor loom and need more than just the loom itself. I'll also need heddles, reeds, lease sticks, shuttles, and other accessories for my first few projects. Buying everything from different shops feels like a compatibility issue waiting to happen, tbh.

Where did you buy your Ashford floor loom, and were you able to get the full accessory setup from the same place?

Do I have to re-wind this yarn to finish my blanket?

I had a very bad tangle situation with this Caron Anniversary Cake so I painstakingly caked it by hand. It’s about 9” across. And then it occurred to me…the color changes are going to be backward. Am I going to have to wind it again and get it back to the original order? Is it going to be horribly obvious if I don’t because of the pooling? The blanket is waffle stitch.

Hi! I’m planning on knitting the daydreamer cardigan and I ordered drops air and drops kid silk both in the color “rust” to hold together. Except I don’t like the drops air. The black polyamide base just doesn’t go with the warm color I want. I really like the color of the kid silk though. Does anyone have a suggestion for a different yarn to go with that one? Preferably fluffy! The drops air is Aran/worsted so that’s what I’m looking for.
(Photos are the kid silk in the color I like and the fluffy cardigan pattern)

Help with postbox topper

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all, it’s my mother’s first time making a postbox topper and she’s having some difficulties. Does anyone know how she can secure the figures down so they won’t wobble so much? Also I think she would appreciate some positive feedback as she is feeling very self conscious about her craftsmanship!!

Thanks for any replies

Does anyone have an idea where I could find the pattern for this placemat? A dear aunt made a set for me and I’d love to make another. She is no longer here. I already looked on ravelry but nothing found. Thank you for your help.

Color choice help - high contrast needed

Post image
2 Upvotes

Last year I did the F*** AI Skeleton Sweater in Loops and Thread Tweed True Gray (background) and Fiesta (bones). I like the sweater but not the colorway. They go well, but the contrast is off for this sweater and its not really comfy cozy. I also messed up the fit by messing up my gauge.

In short, I want to make a new one. But I'm torn on color way. I'm thinking of using Wool of the Andes Worsted Yarn in Solstice Heather for the background and either Haze Heather or Smokey Mountain for the bones.

Any opinions? suggestions?

To mohair or not to mohair?

For people who have experience with using mohair on its own, how does it hold up long-term? I do like it, but I'm wondering if it's a good idea or if it results too fragile, or ends up losing too much of the fiber with uses/washes. I have some silk+mohair that I had bought to use on its own to make some small scarves as Christmas gifts, but I also so happen to have later on bought some regular wool in a very similar color, without even realizing so (it's been more than six months and I just noticed lol). So now that's an option too.

Esthetically and sensorially, I like them both. One is more ethereal and elegant, the other a bit for sporty and soft... But I don't want to risk gifting something that is gonna fall apart or be reduced to just the silk skeleton in a few months of use.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Reusing yarn? Advice

Post image
27 Upvotes

I'm crocheting a sweater out of cascade 220 super wash wool. I made a back panel and decided it was too big so I decided to frog the whole thing and start over. It's my first wearable so I want it to be perfect. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't reuse the yarn I frogged? I don't know much about nice yarn but it's all ramen noodley now. I've heard wool has like a cuticle or something? Will that be affected? I don't want it to get overly fuzzy or something. I do have a new skin that I haven't frogged I could use instead.

TL:DR will I notice a difference in the end between yarn I have frogged and yarn I haven't frogged? Cascade 220 super wash.

I made a pixel art tool for knitting (and crochet). Looking for testers!

I missed a tool made for pixel art that shows up as knitting. The pixel art tools I found are not really made for knitting or crochet. So I made one for myself. It is called Stitchdes. 🧶

In the video I make a Halloween chart. You can type text, draw by hand, or turn a photo into a chart. The preview shows it as knit stitches. You can also repeat the pattern to see how it looks as fabric.

I need testers. I want to know if it works as it should, what is broken, and what features I should add.

Here is the deal:

  • it is free right now.
  • Sign up on the waitlist within a week and you get instant access.
  • Everyone who signs up now gets all features for the rest of the year. In return I would love your honest feedback. I will reach out later with a short questionnaire.

Please be kind. It is the first tool I have made, and I am a little nervous about showing it. ❤️

Link: stitchdes.com
I also post patterns on Instagram: "Stitchdes". Please tag me if you make something with it. I would love to see it!

Thank you! 🫶

want to get into loom weaving, where do beginners start?

I've been loom knitting for a while and wanna try actual loom weaving next. but im completely lost on where to buy a beginner setup. every time i look into it i get overwhelmed by the giant list of accessories u apparently need (shuttles, warping boards, specific yarn, etc). where do beginners get all this stuff without having to buy from 5 diff shops?
