I live in a big city, if any pandemic hits the roads r gonna be blocked what do I do, provided I hv 2 hrs for early warning before a wave strikes suppose, I have stocked enough food in my house for few days but should I stay put in the initial rush, or jst try to be earlier than everyone else? Also I am handy with any sort of craft, carpentry metal sork etc I jst need the materials.... if I can get metal, nd welders I can make a ramp/plow that a truck can be equipped with go clear cars from roads, also another problem is I can store weeks of food in a specific small place but what about water??? How do I get it naturally, is distilled tap water safe? Wb rain and river water, what do u do in emergencies when u need water.. It's sort of a fantasy of mine to see everyone around me be TORN APART BY THE UNDEAD!! And I really don't want to smear zombie guts on myself like in the movies!

Realistically most people can not afford this house that has a +$1,500,000 for the bunker addition. The house above is probably another $1mil.

So lets say after 3 years of the zombie apocalypse outbreak and there are still billions of zombies walking around (on the planet, not the house, the house is relatively safe). You find a home like this with a bunker like that but no power but it still has some food.

Guns are illegal in my country, and civilians are not allowed to own or use them. So, if a zombie outbreak were to happen, what should I prepare for self-defense and protection? What items should I buy to protect myself and my family?

I think the most obvious answer would be police officer (access to guns and better proficiency, especially in countries with strict regulations, leadership and de-escalation skills, fitness, etc.) or similarly the military but I wanna hear what you guys have to say!

Let’s say 100% of humans have died or turned into zombies.

If zombies can only eat humans and not animals, they would all starve to death once no more humans were left. If zombies can eat animals, they might wreak havoc on ecosystems because of how massive the human population was pre-ZA (much like outdoor cats do for bird populations).

As far as the fate of the plants and animals left behind after the zombies starve, the end of climate change would be a great boon (although much of the damage might have already been done, if we are talking about a ZA a few years or decades from now). Having no humans to pollute the environment or further destroy what few wild places remain would be immensely beneficial to animals. However, I’m not sure how deeply factors such as overflowing/decaying sewage systems, collapsed reservoirs/dams, and unsupervised nuclear plants would impact nature.

If we’re talking about scenarios in which some or all zombies have remnants of human intelligence (and can eat animals), then we might see zombies evolve to become more and more intelligent because the smart ones are most likely to survive. After many generations, they might reach the intelligence level of humans and start creating civilizations.

For example, you really really love your dog but then your dog is a huge bark master; like literally barks at everything and even the smallest thing. The question is, if there's a zombie apocalypse, are you guys willing to keep your dog or is there any alternative solution for you to keep your dog in exchange for human companionship?

It seems to me that in all zombie apocalypses, the topic of obtaining energy from zombies is not explored; in essence, it’s an aggressive resource that goes where it’s needed most.

Would you join a civilian posse to hunt down and kill the zombies or would you concentrate on keeping your loved ones safe and leave it to the military/law enforcement to deal with?

They'll cause noise that attracts unwanted attention to your location, take up space that will need to be maintained for security and take up resources. All this to aquire food and textiles that will not benefit your community if not produced at scale.

Aside from chickens and dogs I don't see livestock rearing as a maintainable practice in the midst of an apocalypse.

My question to everyone is what are some realistic things which you feel would happen in an actual zombie apocalypse which are never (or almost never) addressed or shown in zombie movies/ games?

As an example, I saw someone talk about gasses building up in decomposing zombie abdomens which would cause their abdomen to burst/ pop.

My friends and I used to talk about surviving the zombie apocalypse long before we kind of went our separate ways.
Now I was thinking how long would a pre apocalypse friendship last if the zombie apocalypse happened. I would like to hear how it’s passable it last or why it falls apart.

Let's assume a zombie apocalypse actually happens in real life.

Not a movie where the main character has unlimited plot armor, but a realistic situation where society starts collapsing, communication becomes unreliable, supplies become limited, and nobody knows how long it will last.

Imagine you're living your normal life when the outbreak begins.

Assume the zombies are dangerous, the government might struggle to maintain order, and rescue isn't guaranteed.

At the start of the outbreak, how bad would it be on the hospital wards?

For context, I’m a med student, just curious. First time posting in this sub, haven’t thought about zombies much. I’m not here to glaze the hospitals, though I do think we’d put up a good fight at least, I just want to know.

Assume it’s a mid-sized to large-sized hospital. Most likely starts in the ER as emergency cases start to rise.

I’d imagine the surgical bays are pretty easy to contain (zombies can’t easily swipe a lanyard), though it might vary depending if the patient being operated on is the zombie (and sometimes the operations have restraints, oxygen masks, intubation, etc, so it’s hard to bite), if the zombies are the ones outside the surgery and the uninfected patient inside being operated on, or something like that.

A lot of the wards would be a terrible place for an outbreak though. And by terrible I mean terrible for everyone else except the zombies. Lots of vulnerable people who may be mobility-impaired,the hospital may have a crowded ER, and scrubs don’t really offer much protection. A lab coat might offer more (depends on the coat), but I ain’t trusting that against a bunch of zombies.

The biggest problem is probably going to be the layout and the hospital itself (if we ignore the hospital wards and their population).

On the bright side, the lanyards snap off easily when grabbed, and the staff room coffee machine is a true blessing, so yay? On a scale of 1-10, how fucked am I?
