Hi reddit, I’m Mike McMahan, co-creator and executive producer of the new animated show GOLDEN AXE on Paramount+! (It’s weird to put an exclamation point after a + but here we are.) This is a great season: an epic quest with mighty characters from Sega’s Golden Axe games. And it's funny! Previously, I was the creator/showrunner and executive producer of Star Trek: Lower Decks, co-creator and co-showrunner of Solar Opposites, and once upon a time I was a writer/ showrunner on Rick & Morty. My career started off as a production assistant at Drawn Together and at South Park. I’m down to talk about Golden Axe and all this nerdy stuff, so AMA!
Hey Reddit! I'm Joe Chandler. I'm the co-creator and showrunner of the new series Golden Axe based on the SEGA Genesis game. Growing up a SEGA kid, working on this show has been a dream come true. Before Golden Axe, I worked on over 200 episodes of American Dad in various roles including writer, producer, and executive producer. Ask me anything!
Hello reddit! I’m Giancarlo Volpe and I’m the Supervising Producer / Director of Golden Axe on Paramount+! Previously I’ve was a director on Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Wars the Clone Wars, and Star Vs The Forces of Evil. I’ve also produced/ supervised/ and/or Executive Produced lots of other shows, including The Boys Diabolical, Green Lantern the Animated Series and The Dragon Prince. Basically I’ve made a lot of animation, and I’m excited to talk about Golden Axe or anything else! Ask away!
We’ll be back tomorrow at 12pm ET/9am PT to answer any of your questions!!

I’ve never done a real animation before other than some basic repeating gifs. Just wanted to share.

Launched an indie pilot on Kickstarter about 3 weeks ago. After a strong start, we have struggled to keep a steady pace to meet our target. We've still got 9 days to go in the campaign and I've learned a lot that'll likely lead to a successful second campaign. I'm gonna keep pushing till the final day but for now I'm feeling a little discouraged. I make a living in freelance comics and animation, bringing other people's worlds to life. So it sucks that it's not time for mine to come to life yet.
If you'd like to have a look, here's our campaign

I'm asking so I can get an idea of the ideal price range for animations like these when someone commissions me in the future.

I did an interview about how I created the cloth simulations for EUTHANAZIES and explained some tricks I use. You can read it here: https://www.marvelousdesigner.com/resources/user-spotlight/all/b54b675d8e1741b69e43f67952ff3299

Hey everyone! 👋
I just finished this high-action 2D animation sequence, blending organic "slime/water" blob physics with an explosive power-up expansion inspired by classic fight anime.
This project is part of a personal journey revisiting my history with a Pokémon Nuzlocke. The entire process—from the rough lineart to the 3-tone cel-shading and final compositing—was done frame-by-frame to aim for a high-performance anime studio aesthetic.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the animation timing, impact, and water physics! Which Pokémon sequence should I tackle next? 👇

Watched a video about animation exercises for beginners and proceeded to do two of them here. I am essentially giving myself a headstart for Basic 2D Animation class starting next week in the coming semester in college. I just have to sort out which concepts or lessons to start and work on at a time so K may have an easier time studying.
In any case, what do y'all think?

Since the colors and shadows are always too bright, I would like the result to look more like anime, like the second image. As you can see, there is soft lighting that mutes the colors, making them less visible, like in ordinary images.
I dont want to spend money on software. I heard that OpenToonz is very good for vector layers, and I don't like raster at all. If you use OpenToonz, even better. If you don't use OpenToonz, find a free alternative that you use and the exact steps (comands) to achieve the final result, like Roronoa Zoro in the picture.

Hi there, I’m Duffy and I art direct Ralph Magazine, an indie magazine that’s all about the fun side of pop culture. I spoke to the group’s Moderator and they said this would be OK to post. For the latest issue of the magazine we spent the day making a mega feature with Peter Lord down at Aardman Animations, and I thought it might be of interest to you.
We went in quite deep about how he made the Sledgehammer video (Peter was very quick to say it wasn’t just Aardman’s work and Peter Gabriel, director Stephen Johnson and the Quay Brothers deserve as much credit), he also spoke about using his own spit to shine the lips of the cat in the Nina Simone music vid and how working with Spike Milligan on the Tate & Lyle advert is one that he looks back at most fondly. I thought it might be of interest to all animation fans.
If you fancy a copy, I’ve sorted 10% off this issue with the code RANIMATION at https://ralph.world/issue9
