Japan’s anime industry is in better shape overall, but gaps in pay and conditions are opening up largely between studios prepared to put their own capital on the line and those that are not, according to Fujitsu Ryota, programming advisor for the Tokyo International Film Festival’s Animation section.

“Given the high level of creativity demonstrated by animation professionals, their compensation is still not where it should be,” Fujitsu tells Variety.

He describes the link between hits and pay as a chicken-and-egg problem. As overseas demand for anime grows, the companies that can pay production staff properly, and so draw the talent they need, look best placed to make strong work and build a global presence.

“In other words, it’s not necessarily that a hit film generates profits that are then passed on to the people who made it. Rather, companies that can attract the right people in the first place are better positioned to produce a hit,” Fujitsu says.

That requires studios to commit more of their own money and shoulder bigger business risks, he adds. Some can. Others can’t.

“How to bridge that gap depends on how individual companies choose to run their businesses,” he says. “If we simply lump everything together as an ‘industry-wide problem,’ we risk obscuring the specific factors at play.” (...)

(...) With streamers pouring money into anime and theatrical franchises drawing huge crowds, Fujitsu says the risk that original features without established IP will find it harder to get financed and distributed is definitely there.

Hey, folks! I'm kinda new to the whole Isekai genre and some of it seems pretty good, but one thing I've noticed with this and litrpg is they predominantly take place in the "past". More Medieval style.

So here I am asking if you guys know any that are more futuristic. Not counting things like Gundam or 86.

Basically MC gets summoned to a Star Wars/Mass Effect setting. Going from pur modern day to our perception of a highly advanced society. Any of the following: Space Battles, Interplantary travel, Machine Monsters, Mech suits, Energy Weapons, Magics that have advanced in tandem with Science. Kinda like Warhammer.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I'll look into as many as I can :)

Got a bit caught up in work today so the post is a bit delayed sorry!

Hope you all liked rewatching these arcs. I definitely did! I'm not sure about how much I like the placement of Shinobu Time however. I think it would have been better placed before Nadeko medusa.

Previous thread

This week we will watch 1 arc

• Hitagi End

Rewatch Schedule

Last week's preliminary questions

• At what point does self-deception become harmful?

• How does Suruga Devil tie in narratively to Nadeko's goal in Nadeko Medusa?

• When can running away from your problems be the answer?

Discussion questions

• Are Nadeko's feelings for Koyomi real?

• Was Kuchinawa real, or did Nadeko make it real?

• What did you think about the mystery of the darkness?

• How was the scene around the final 'Sorry I flubbed' executed?

Theme questions

• What does Nadeko gain by becoming a god, and what does she lose?

• What does Nadeko gain from killing everything Arararararagi cares about?

• How does Shinobu feel towards Araragi at this point in the story considering her jealousy?

• What does the darkness represent, thematically, metaphorically and physically?

Preliminary discussion question for this week's arc

• What do you think about the choice of narrator this arc, and especially how it concludes? Taking into account what we know already from Suruga Devil.

• How has your opinion of Kaiki developed throughout second season?

Small Challenge throughout the rewatch

Add the arcs to the rating!

I'd like you all to try to create a ranking of your top 5 arcs of the series while watching. For rewatchers, don't let a previous watching experience influence your opinion, form this ranking throughout the rewatch! I will ask for an update a few times throughout this rewatch and I am interested to see your ranking.

Have fun!

i just finished watching all the episodes of The Apothecary Diaries and i love how it has an actual storyline with mysteries, problems to solve, and little details that keep you hooked, while the romance develops slowly in the background. the romantic moments are subtle, but somehow they give me butterflies even more than full-on romance scenes lol.
I’m looking for a romance anime with an actual story line or anime similar to The apothecary dairies. please recommend me your fav!!!

I've watched Gosick and Mystic Archive of Dantalian but I can't find anime with similar style. I thought Japanese people really like the fashion, why isn't there more of these? Though I might be mistaken.

Anyway, please tell me more obscure Goth Loli show! I've been diving MAL for hours, but I can't find any. People's Gothic interest stack isn't helping either, it's just too broad, I'm specifically looking for Victorian Gothic, so please don't recommend anything like Death Note.
